I dont work so fine but theres no way theyre going to let dh take off an extra 2 weeks after our holiday its just not possible

We booked in jan so covid at the time so we thought was just affecting the far east

Airline isnt going to let us cancel based on this are theyim half hoping the whole thing is cancelled now so we at least get out money back

The R not dropping quickly enough is because we haven't effectively contained the virus, for various reasons. Ignoring the rules is one of the factors.

You're hung up on a binary technicality that this would all just go a lot quicker if everyone got themselves infected. It's way more nuanced than that since we a) don't have a vaccine and b) we're not even sure you can have immunity.

I also have a holiday booked so get the disappointment. It's a blip in a lifetime.

@KeepWashingThoseHands yes but we have to assume that if we fight and win the battle against this virus then we have created the antibodies that bring immunity. That’s also how a vaccine works. So if we don’t get immunity then a vaccine is not possible. However evidence from other viruses and corona viruses in particular is that when we fight it we do create antibodies that confer immunity. Now how long that immunity LASTS is the next question. Evidence to date is that this virus mutates slower than the flu so hopefully will be longer than a year.

Ah FFS I’m so annoyed that the quarantine rules have not been announced yet.

I’m currently living in HK but we’re moving back to the U.K. this summer. We need to know what the rules will be so we can plan accordingly (accommodation, plane tickets). I don’t care what the rules are, I just want to KNOW what they are.

They’ve been hinting at quarantine rules for a month now - just announce the flipping thing already.

Ironically there have been no local cases in HK for nearly three weeks, so the chances of us infecting anyone in the U.K. are pretty non existent. But I’m not asking for special treatment, just some certainty so we can plan around it.

Confusion confusion confusion.
Just the threat of quarantine to be introduced at some date in the future is crazy.
Not the quarantine but the will it, won’t it is crazy.

Book a flight or holiday don’t expect to get your money back if there is quarantine. Actually it would be crazy to book any crossing of borders even France as PM Johnson could fall out with President Macron.

GabsAlot · 11/05/2020 12:47

to clarify france is excluded along with ireland

Why is France exempt? I don’t understand that.

DateandTime · 11/05/2020 12:51

I would think that for the vast majority of people this means they can't/won't travel. People won't come here on holiday or for business if they have to isolate for 14 days when they arrive and "we" mostly won't be able to travel if we have to stay at home for 14 days when we get back.

Plus other countries are likely to impose this on us if we do it to them, so you may have to isolate at both ends of your trip.

Why only air travel?

Wingedharpy · 11/05/2020 13:13

I know this is a simplistic answer @DateandTime, but could it be to do with the fact that air travel is the only source of travel where there's no fresh air involved?
You can't open the windows on an aeroplane.
You can on a train and you could go up on deck on a ferry.

DateandTime · 11/05/2020 13:15

Is the concern about what you might catch on the journey then rather than what you may have picked up before you left "abroad"?

GabsAlot · 11/05/2020 13:24

you could have it already though doesnt matter if its train or not and most trains havent got open windows anymore

It’s just bullshit the guidance. Made up waffle as he does along. Why would a packed Eurostar be safe? A packed Ferry? Why France and Ireland exempt?

They always leave more questions than answers
