Is it okay to travel to a private swimming pool?

20 mins away, would stay there longer than travel time to exercise. It’s a private pool with nobody else there. Feels odd as I’m just used to walking and cycling in the lockdown! Is this okay?

Doom, OP! You must not! Doom awaits every time you step out your door.

Chillipeanuts · 09/05/2020 23:31

Where is this swimming pool with no-one else in it? intriguing.

doodleygirl · 09/05/2020 23:31

Go

DamnYankee · 09/05/2020 23:38

Keep Calm and Fanny On.

My kids would love to join you!

Comefromaway · 09/05/2020 23:39

My parents have offered me & the kids to use their pool (indoor located in an annexe to their house so we wouldn’t need to mix at all) but I’ve so far refused as I was concerned about Covid spreading via the pool. Dd had originally joked before lockdown that if her college closed she was going to live with them because of the pool but she’s with us).

I have actually had to visit their house as I work for my parent’s company and though go we are all working from home we occasionally have to pass on documents & files (the company works in key areas such as hospitals & prisons).

It just feels wrong to go swimming there though.

I would thing an indoor swimming pool, changing rooms etc is the perfect place to spread the virus

Nuffield Health amusingly claimed in an email a few days before lockdown that chlorine will kill the virus and everyone’s fine to swim Confused LOL!!!

ReallyNeeedHelp · 09/05/2020 23:41

^they totally missed the point of getting IN IT

UnhappyMondays · 09/05/2020 23:51

I travelled 5mins by car today to use my mum’s pool as my daily exercise. It’s outside and away from the house and I didn’t go in the house at all. It’s fine OP - go for it if you’re comfortable you can be safe

Fantasisa · 10/05/2020 00:08

I WISH I had access to a private pool. Have fun, OP.

B1rdbra1n · 10/05/2020 00:08

Go for it, I would you lucky thing 😁

Samtsirch · 10/05/2020 00:10

Fanny on
🤣
I just intend on doing a lot of fannying from now on.
In a perfect world I'd do it in a private swimming pool ( go for it OP!) but I suppose I'll have to be content with fannying in more mundane surroundings
😂

The CD li k above is US and clearly aimed at your own pool hot tub. If you share with others outside your household then the changing areas etc will be risk actually un less you know for sure they cleaned well between the people before you and after you. Who is cleaning the changing areas etc? You can pick up verrucasfrom a shared "private" pool.... ask the owners what the cleaning protocol is for changing areas and pool side between different households? Toilets handles etc

Embracelife · 10/05/2020 00:22

www.cdc.gov/healthywater/swimming/index.html

USA site
You can use your own pool.
If you go to someone else s you dont know who has been there and if areas cleaned properly

Embracelife · 10/05/2020 00:25

all swimming pools MUST CLOSE.

This includes all indoor and outdoor facilities, and all private residential pools that are used for public hire.

If it s not your pool it s being hired to the public. I e you and who knows who else ?

If they are letting you swim there for free of course it isn’t being hired by the public Hmm

I’m presuming it’s an outdoor pool, and you’ll be changing in the garden? I wouldn’t go if it’s inside as much more risk of picking things up on surfaces but how are you going to pick up C19 on your feet and transfer it to your face (unless you are very flexible!)? Once you’ve finished and your things are back in your bag, rinse your hands off in the chlorinated water and you’ll be good to go!

Pipandmum · 10/05/2020 08:56

Do you mean some one is renting out their pool? I have one and it can be accessed from the street thru a side shed (door handles would need cleaning). But I'm not letting anyone other than us use it (no one has asked either). What about needing the toilet?

lljkk · 10/05/2020 09:23

If you think swimming pool chlorine can't kill the virus then you must be utterly terrified of the too-low chlorine levels in tap water.

FairlowWonder · 10/05/2020 09:52

It’s a family members pool (second property) that has only been used by themselves a few days ago. No one has been there in 48hrs. Outside only, I won’t have access to the house or changing rooms etc. Chlorinated pool so no virus in there!

OP posts:
YouSetTheTone · 10/05/2020 10:05

Op I’ve travelled 5 mins to use a family member’s outside (chlorinated!) pool. Well, I haven’t gone in (bastard period!) but my DC have. I would also travel 30 mins to do this! People are allowed to drive to exercise or work. This is good for your mental health and safe (imo). Enjoy!

Hugglespuffed · 10/05/2020 11:00

That depends where the op is @YouSetTheTone for example, in Wales you can't travel in the car for exercise.

Mustbetimeforachange · 10/05/2020 14:52

I thoought Wales had changed its mind?

Barbie222 · 10/05/2020 15:04

Has it been cleaned and filtered etc?

Hugglespuffed · 10/05/2020 15:17

Oh has it @Mustbetimeforachange apologies, I watched the update for Wales on the tv on Friday and they said no driving for exercise.. I didn't know it had been changed. I follow it as much as possible as most of my family live in Wales!
