Not been out of house for a week but DD has headache and fever

I don't understand how she could have caught anything. She has a 37.8C fever and bad headache. The rest of us are fine. None of us have been to work or out anywhere other than a walk. DD didn't even come in the walk as she hates walking! We didn't come within 2 metres of anyone and didn't touch anything. We have our shopping delivered and she wouldn't have touched any of the food bags or packets. Confused and a bit worried...

It could be bacterial?

stickman12 · 09/05/2020 13:17

37.8 is only just a fever, are you sure she's not just got a headache and got a bit hot because it is hot?

EasterIssland · 09/05/2020 13:20

There are more things going around apart from coronavirus

KingaRoo · 09/05/2020 13:21

She woke up at 6am crying with a headache. Currently in bed shivering and saying she's cold even though she has a temp. She even has goosebumps on her arms!

Yes but how could she have caught anything? She hasn't been anywhere to catch anything.

Sunstroke from yesterday ?

SistemaAddict · 09/05/2020 13:26

Is be mindful of meningitis but bear in mind that incubation for COVID is up to 2 weeks.

Doyoumind · 09/05/2020 13:26

She doesn't need to have touched shopping or anything if you have and have then cross contaminated. And something or someone contaminated could have come into the house a couple of weeks ago, not just a week ago.

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 13:26

You don’t ‘catch’ some bacterial infections. Not from people anyway. UTI’s for example.

ofwarren · 09/05/2020 13:27

A sinus problem?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 09/05/2020 13:28

I had a awful cold after not being out of the house and sterisingeverything that came in.

Ds had tonsillitis. I have no idea where the germs are from

SoloMummy · 09/05/2020 13:32

Just because were isolating doesn't mean that other illnesses stop.
If you're definite noone has been out or touched something someone could have touched, assume it's a typical thing.

Talia99 · 09/05/2020 13:36

My temperature sometimes goes up when I have a headache. I think all you can do is keep an eye on her and hope for the best.

Also, as people say, incubation can be up to 2 weeks so her not having done anything in the last week may be irrelevant.

BenScalesIsAGod · 09/05/2020 13:38

Surely could have touched food packets / something on a walk in the past 2 weeks?

NoSquirrels · 09/05/2020 13:38

Germs are everywhere. You've significantly lowered the chances of anyone in your house catching something but it's hard to eliminate entirely. Things incubate at different rates. Surfaces e.g. door handles can mean you unwittingly pick something up. Sinus problems can develop and cause headaches etc.

Try not to worry, just treat her as you would in 'ordinary' times.

sunshinestanley · 09/05/2020 13:43

Does she touch nothing on her walk? No gate, fence, door handle, zebra crossing button etc. Could be a long incubation period. Could be bacterial. Any number of different explanations.

BertiesLanding · 09/05/2020 13:48

UTI?

TuckMyWin · 09/05/2020 14:00

Is she prone to throat infections? My 5 year old, who also has only been on walks, has had a throat infection which the doctor prescribed AB's for. He is prone to mild tonsillitis, and has had scarlet fever 3 times, which is the same bacteria (strep A), so I think he's just a carrier.

KingaRoo · 09/05/2020 14:18

No she's never had tonsillitis and not prone to throat things. She did have scarlet fever when she was 5. No UTI symptoms.

When we do drag her out for walks she doesn't touch anything, we are rural and there are no gates or styles on our route. She doesn't touch food packets or anything either (lazy!).

I suppose it just feels strange as she's normally at school among loads of germs, gymnastics where the equipment is never cleaned and things like swimming and she's never ill. Now she's living in much more sterile conditions she gets ill, its weird.

We've had similar. It's hard to get your head around!

bellinisurge · 09/05/2020 14:45

Are you sure it's not sunstroke?

Mintjulia · 09/05/2020 14:54

Stress caused by isolation?

Lots of teens are suffering stress headaches, and the headache then causes a slightly raised temperature.

Migraine?

walkingchuckydoll · 09/05/2020 14:56

Probably something with an incubation of longer than a week. Enough virusses take longer than a week.

hopefulhalf · 09/05/2020 14:58

How old is she ?
A big glass of something cold and see how she is ?
