Should I go back to work??

I've spent the past 10 months on MAT leave and I am due to go back to work on Monday.
Should I go back?

Well that depends entirely on if your work expect you back? What is your job? Can you afford to lose the wage?

KeepWashingThoseHands · 07/05/2020 07:59

Confused. Would you not have to give notice or something if you didn't? You've presumably been in contact with them to agree Monday.

Up to you and depends if you need the money, have childcare etc.

thedevilinablackdress · 07/05/2020 08:00

What is your job?
What will happen if you don't go back?

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:00

@stacey21x

Sorry for not putting that in my first post.

Yes my work expect me back.

I'm the head of operations, network planning and scheduling for a major UK airline.

If your expected back and you haven't told them otherwise at this point then yes you should go back

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:02

@cheninblanc

Ok.

Also it is possible for me to work from home but it is EXTREMELY difficult.

OP posts:
Figgygal · 07/05/2020 08:04

Surely they’ve spoken to you about whether you can do anything from home?
If not then yes you will need to go back to work
Where’s your baby going to be? Will childcare prevent it?

RedskyAtnight · 07/05/2020 08:05

Why are you thinking that you shouldn't go back?

And if you haven't made any (practical) plans about how you go back, can I suggest you contact someone today! At the very least you need to know if you're expected to go in (and where) or work from home.
Even when we don't have a pandemic, going back after maternity leave involves a bit more communication than just rocking up at work on the agreed day.

ooooohbetty · 07/05/2020 08:07

Of course you should go back to work if you are due back at work.

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:07

@Figgygal

Hello, yes I have been speaking to them this week. My husband is working from home so my baby and my 7 year old dc can stay with him.

@RedskyAtnight

I was more thinking about if it would be safe as I work in a office environment.

OP posts:
CurlyEndive · 07/05/2020 08:13

Yes, it sounds like you should go in.

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:16

SudokuBook · 07/05/2020 08:23

Are you going to actually have that much to do?

MrsWhites · 07/05/2020 08:34

I’m confused, your employer has told you you can go into work or work from home, I’m confused what you are asking us? Surely only you can decide if it is possible for you to work from home.

Obviously it would be safer to work from home, you will need to weigh up the risk of going into the office vs the inconvenience of working from home.

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:34

@SudokuBook

Yes.

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:35

@MrsWhites

My employer has said that I can attempt to work from home however my job is practically impossible to do from home.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 07/05/2020 08:41

Why is it difficult to do your job from home? Are you usually based in an office or are you "out in the field" so to speak

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:50

@NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1

Based in the office and our operations centre (both located in the same building).

My job is difficult to do from home as I need to use highly specialised IT software that cannot be used remotely. Therefore I could work from home but would have to keep on phoning someone in the office to change or update something on the system for me or to tell me something that someone else has changed on the system.

I also need to be in our operations centre to deal with any emergencies or anything that may occur.

I also need to be on-site to communicate and deal with the rest of my network planning and scheduling team.

picklemewalnuts · 07/05/2020 08:53

How many other people are there?

If you are fit and healthy, CV is still very low risk. You need to go out to work, so you are 'allowed' out.

What is your concern?

Disneylover4321 · 07/05/2020 08:54

@picklemewalnuts

There is about 75-95 people in the office.

One of my concerns is that my first week of work consists of lots of face to face meetings with other staff.
