Support thread for those who've had Covid symptoms or post-viral fatigue for at least 7 weeks/49 days or longer.

If your symptoms haven't lasted that long, check out the Lung 7 thread (or later).It'll be more helpful as people there will be in a more similar position.

Hi all.

I think at this stage, everyone has to make peace with not knowing a lot, but bank on is feeling better in time, even if it’s months.

@Crayfishforyou

That I’d a good list of positives!

I have an idea that may help us all MH-wise- if we could all share one positive everyday, even if they’re not a Covid related. So better stats, something you bought to cheer yourself up, a kind gesture whatever.

Not to replace comparing symptoms or the hardship of having this, but to go alongside.

So I’ll start , forgot to do that grin]

Day 51

Positive: I enjoyed sitting outside in the sun talking to neighbours at a socially acceptable distance.

@Dandyish
I like that idea. Today I sat in the garden all day.
And i managed to get a tesco delivery slot

hollieberrie · 08/05/2020 18:51

Hello everyone,

Day 57 here. Sorry i havent posted in an age, have been so so dizzy with my blocked ears and labyrinthitis. I saw a few other posters are having ear trouble. GP says mine is labyrinthitis and eustachian tube disfunction. Am taking stemetil, helps a bit.

I've been reading along daily, am so glad youre all here. I'm finding things really tough at the moment, anxious and tearful.

How are people getting on with ibuprofen? GP says i can take it for my ears but i've been too scared to so far.

Today's positive (love this idea): I managed to cook a delicious spag bol

Porcupineinwaiting · 08/05/2020 18:52

Ah dammit @Dandyish that was going to be mine! Grin

OK then, baking scones and buns with the kids.

mumlurker · 08/05/2020 19:01

I like this idea. Today some seeds I planted the week I was feeling better have started to sprout. I also have to remind myself how supportive my friends and family have been throughout this.

I spoke to a friend today who has a long-term chronic illness and whilst I deeply hope this won't prove chronic for any of us, it was really helpful for me to hear how she handles it. Acceptance is the first step of course. And during flare ups, trying to achieve just small things like getting dressed and having three proper meals a day. And trying not to think of this as dead/ wasted time...there are small achievements and things to be thankful for each day.

godhelpusall · 08/05/2020 19:26

I started a thread about children to see so this of you with ill kids please add to it. I've already had one 'well without a test you can't say'. I think I bloody well can

Moominmamma33 · 08/05/2020 19:43

Positive: I walked all the way to our allotment in beautiful sunshine.

Moodgie · 08/05/2020 19:47

Positives: Sitting at the front of the house and chatting to neighbours as the whole street came out to have a drink at 4 o’clock.

longshot · 08/05/2020 20:10

@godhelpusall can you link the thread?

Day 58 here, I am not too bad. Headache every morning, some intermittent palpitations still and chest ache here and there but I can now go about most things I would normally do fine. I can’t exercise yet other than short walks and yoga. I rest 1hr after lunch every day

Positive - 3km walk with my family, baked scones, made ratatouille, I actually had a nice day!

Egghead68 · 08/05/2020 20:13

Positive - I managed 2 hours work without breaks.

Lightsabre · 08/05/2020 20:42

I've been able to do a bit more today, hang washing out, make meals, light cleaning but had some pain around 7pm. I took an ibuprofen and now am very short of breath again and tight chested/crushing feeling. So disappointed as I'd been able to take deeper breaths for the last couple of days ☹️.

mumlurker · 08/05/2020 20:57

Has anyone experienced loss of sensation in their limbs? Started in my arms, now my legs...not pins and needles exactly but the feeling when your arm or leg goes 'dead' in a mild sort of way. Had this for a few days, comes and goes. Not sure if it's nerves or circulation but it's really worrying me. Day 56 so have hit the 8 week milestone...this last week has been awful, hope to god it lifts soon....

Countingsheeps · 08/05/2020 21:13

@mumlurker yes to the loss of sensation- it first happened when I had a shower a week ago and I noticed I had a numb bum!!! Since then various fingers arms etc, but, on a positive note it seems to have stopped now. I mentioned it to the dr that I saw last week and they kind of shrugged and said it’s probably another post viral thing...

Another positive- I managed to spend this afternoon in the sunshine with my family (lying down, but still better than being in bed!!)

fedupofbed · 08/05/2020 21:14

That's such a lovely idea @Dandyish

I've not left the bedroom today I'm afraid. I've been visited by my children though, soaking wet and full of laughter, after a garden game involving the trampoline and the sprinkler. I'm also enjoying two beautiful bouquets that are brightening up my bedroom. I feel blessed to have great support from friends and family.

mumto3little · 08/05/2020 21:14

@hollieberrie I had ear problem as well about a week ago. I took paracetamol for pain relief. As I had chest pain as well, my GP prescribed antibiotics and the medications worked well for me.

ShastaBeast · 08/05/2020 21:17

Rushed through but a few points (sorry for not finding names etc), period also lasting longer and more pain than usual, barely have pain since kids. Wondering if it’s the start of (earlyish) menopause as I’ve had other symptoms of hormones being odd. Apparently shorter cycles can be a sign - rush to release eggs before it’s too late. Most of the others are having longer cycles, although not all are infected so perhaps just stress.

Reflux is really common here but I’ve hardly seen anything elsewhere.

Burning sensation is my only lasting symptom, especially when exercising. Did a lot today, a bit of running after the kids and was ok. Huge amount of runners and cyclists out this morning, it hard not being well enough to run. We’ll have to build up slowly. No idea about heart rate but interesting, I might borrow DH’s watch and track mine for a day.

I definitely think I do have hay fever and have occasionally in the past. I wake with a sore throat. Not sure if there’s any link or just an annoying coincidence.

My eldest is coughing more the last few nights. Perhaps asthma but she’s not diagnosed.

@mumlurker I did have dead arms and legs occasionally earlier on. Another odd symptom which may be a coincidence.

WrongKindOfFace · 08/05/2020 21:20

Apologies if this has been posted already, but I thought it might be of some interest. www.post-covid.org.uk/

I may or may not have had it a couple of months ago and still haven’t fully recovered. Lungs feel much better after a few changes of asthma medication (it was actually montelukast that helped the most). Still hurts when I breathe some days ( chest x ray was clear).

Norugratsatall · 08/05/2020 21:25

@hollieberrie sorry you're having ear problems - I am also on medication for Eustachian tube disfunction - an unrelated problem I've been battling with before I got Covid. I have been feeling very dizzy too in the last couple of days - a new symptom. Oh joy!! I have been taking ibuprofen as it helps with the inflammation in the ears and the resulting tinnitus. I don't think it's adversely affected the Covid but it has given me awful indigestion. I don't think I could cope without it atm sadly. I hope yours settle soon. Have you had a feeling of pressure in your ears?

Sweetpea84 · 08/05/2020 21:30

Those who have lost their voices was that with or without a sore throat? I was really ill in January with a cough, temp, fatigue and I lost my voice for over 2 weeks without a sore throat. Never been so ill and took ages to shake off.

Countingsheeps · 08/05/2020 21:35

@Sweetpea84

When I lost my voice I didn’t have a sore throat. I did get a sore throat a week or so later though. Xx

mumlurker · 08/05/2020 21:41

@countingsheeps @ShastaBeast

Thanks both. Like all these symptoms...just waiting for it to pass....or move to my bum I guess!

Porcupineinwaiting · 08/05/2020 22:15

Can I ask, has anybody had painful joints as part of this. After a week of various muscle pains (now diminishing) my joints have started up - first times and now, randomly, my left elbow???

Porcupineinwaiting · 08/05/2020 22:15

first toes

Meercatmama · 08/05/2020 22:46

Hi
As some one who has been there from the first lung thread this is awful and I know it has its ups and really lows. @casio@longshot I think from the first lung or two thread, I am sorry I cant remember all the names. What you have to remember is one hour at time then two until six hours then a day. The breathlessness is horrible , the lung pain is dreadful the tiredness is something we have not experience but we are still here fighting it. I can tell you it will get better I have experienced that and I will wake up tomorrow expecting another dip and be back in bed but now after five days I have a bit of hope that I am on the mend. If I am not well and I have to fight again and this is from the person literally two week ago on her knees and requesting help from her GP and taking taking antidepressants for the first time in her life. I am determined this will not defeat me and I know I am going to see setbacks but I am going to recover if slowly. We need to take small steps do not worry about what other people think of us and make sure that other know it is not a 14 day illness you recover from. Fill in those questionnaires and apps. Tell the scientific people what it is really like, tell your friends and spread the word because other than that people will think you will just get a cough and sore throat and temperature. Its not like that Unfortunately we were in the first wave with little understanding of the illness of those not ill enough to be in hospital thank god but ill enough to be so ill with no outside medical help except 111 at its best . We are surviving and doing the best we can
We are going to get through this and for the people suffering tonight I am so sorry and I wish you a peaceful night
