Just seen this tweet.

**A French Doctor has claimed that the virus was in France in December, a month before the first confirmed case.

Dr Cohen tested old blood samples for patients with respiratory symptoms and found a positive result.

This is worth investigating - it could be significant. - Prof Karol Sikora

Whilst it's France and not UK, I think the possibility should be investigated over here too. I am 99% sure my Dad had it beginning of January.

We are still having 5 to 6000 new infections every day, around 2000 confirmed via testing.

This is apparently not the case in Europe, who at most have a few 100 in each of the worst affected (and similar sized) countries.

Italy a roughly 3-4 ahead of the UK in terms of virus progression. In mid May Italy had similar number of daily infections that the UK has now.

jasjas1973 · 10/06/2020 19:06

Its a month now is it? thought it was at most 2 weeks.

If it is a month, we shouldn't be opening up as much as we are, no?

Regardless, France is on a similar curve and they haven't 1000s of new dialy infections.

what the fuck were we doing having open borders?

Just checked on Worldmeters, Mid May, Italy had daily infections in the mid to high 100s.

I looked at post 15th May as an average until 20th, as you said mid May.
One shouldn't just pick one day

But ours are still 5k to 6k or over 2000 via official tests.

Still good to know we compare favourably with one of the worlds worst performers though :(

howdidwegetheremary · 10/06/2020 20:46

jasjas1973 that wasn’t the point of my post.

This is more lighthearted thread musing the idea that it may be further along therefore, we may be closer to a solution.

Other Euro neighbours have been badly affected but to see them start to recover should offer us a bit of hope however small that may be.

I am hoping (however misguided) that we may see the same improvements in a few weeks time.

jasjas1973 · 10/06/2020 21:08

@howdidwegetheremary

Well, i all for hope :) but when it comes to life and death, i prefer my hope based on sound logic and decent science.

howdidwegetheremary · 10/06/2020 21:10

Or facts, figures and actual evidence perhaps

jasjas1973 · 10/06/2020 21:14

How about both?

Something that i do hope we can move to as we progress..... (that word "hope" again)

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 19/06/2020 20:16

Did you see the news today about Italy?

It's extremely interesting that the virus has been found in sewage samples in various places there from December. If it was present in sewage, it must have been in the population in relatively large numbers to have shown up in samples I can't imagine it would have shown up if the virus was limited to very few cases.

cyclingmad · 19/06/2020 20:49

There are reports out there first cases go far back as October even here in the UK. Some have even said this is our second wave and our first wave was across December but they didn't know what it was.

PicsInRed · 19/06/2020 21:11

Italy, sewage, 18th December:

My family are in Italy and it’s so weird seeing their photos of “normal life” and it really is normal apart from masks in public places...bars, restaurants, all shops open, going to peoples houses etc makes me feel so anxious looking at it all 🤦‍♀️

gluteustothemaximus · 20/06/2020 02:16

This is so bizarre. For ages many of us have said we thought we had it. Maybe we did.

And it’s not a hindsight thing. At the time me and DH and others at work all commented on it being the weirdest illness we've ever had and recovery was so slow.

megletthesecond · 20/06/2020 08:58

I was just coming on to see if anyone had added the Italian sewage report.
I still think I had it end of Nov. FWIW I had my first ever flu jab last Sept.
