Relaxing the lockdown won't affect deaths in carehomes?

Will it? Read on here today that schools shouldn't open because there are so many deaths in care homes.

The care home deaths are tragic and really upsetting but I genuinely can't see how sending kids back to school will affect them one way or another.

I've name changed as for some reason I am fully expecting lots of robust answers.

@Bargebill19
What you said is 100% true.
Dementia patients just don't understand. One time I remember going to see my mum and there was a male resident tucked up in her bed. She kept telling me to be quiet as her daddy was sleeping.
I was like WTF🙊🙊

I work in a care home in the office and am required to be at work not WFH. I am also in and out of the whole resident area all day no way of social distancing. There is no way I could stay away from my young family there is nowhere else to move to. The homes only have rooms for residents in most cases nowhere for staff to stay if anyone chose to.
As many have said we can’t confine confused residents to their room and even mildly forgetful residents will wander. We had a symptomatic resident coughing and he kept coming out to see if it was lunch time yet and being patiently returned to his room each time but I could hear him coughing away in the lounge.
We do have PPE but as we have seen it’s not protection enough working in such close quarters all day. The RO is much higher in care homes due to the enforced close conditions hence we see an outbreak happening so easily.
Even without people being admitted from hospital it really is nigh on impossible to keep the disease out of a care setting. Our usual GP’s won’t visit the home so early deaths were not getting written up as Covid as there was no testing. At least now we have testing.

Wobblysausage, i understand where you are coming from. I am a care assistant also in a care home with independent living and also a nursing floor for elderly frail and end of life and a dementia unit, both of which is where i work.
Its impossible to keep 2m distsnce from your residents with personal care, assisting with meals and drinks. Also the dementia residents do not understand about social distancing and are confused with us wearing masks.
We have been taking patients from hospital as we have empty beds, and yes some of these people have had symptoms, we are awaiting test results.
We have staff off with symptoms and also those that are self isolating for 12wks which means we are picking up extra shifts.
I am a single mum with a 15 year old dd who has asthma, so i am worried potentially i could bring it home to her, i would not sleep in for a week at a time as i have dd at home so not possible.
The ppe we have is not great, a surgical mask for 6 hrs at a time, a disposable apron and gloves everytime we give any personal care. Our hands are sore from constantly washing them.
Yes the lockdown is affecting our residents as they havent had any family in since beginning of march, its affecting their mood, their appetite etc.
If they relax lockdown too soon then there is a possibility it would get into care homes more and there would be more deaths.

sinking the whole economy sabotaging everything for the sake of elderly frail people in care homes, but then we can't just leave them on an ice floe
