Yes or no?

OP posts:
starsparkle08 · 28/04/2020 17:16

No

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/04/2020 17:18

No. And as other countries such as Italy and Spain are starting to lift their lockdowns, it would be absolutely insane if ours remained long term.

MinkowskisButterfly · 28/04/2020 17:22

Yes.

We have a vulnerable (not shielding) person in our house so it is in our best interest. We have enough risk with DH having to go to work (supermarket who aren't following/enforcing social distancing once in store - customers and other staff - DH spends most of day telling customers and other staff to move away from him).

Letsdoanamechangeagain · 28/04/2020 17:25

12 months social distancing? Yeah probably.

12 months home schooling while working from home at the same time? Fuck no.

wildcherries · 28/04/2020 17:28

Absolutely not. I couldn't cope not seeing my family or friends for that length of time. I couldn't with no human touch for that long.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 28/04/2020 17:29

I’d be very interested in an antibody test when it becomes available as i think the vulnerable person In our household might already have it

Although I appreciate we don’t know if it’s possible to get covid 19 twice

Pootle40 · 28/04/2020 17:29

No I wouldn't stay in lockdown for 12 months nor complete social distancing i.e I would expect to see very close family and a handful of friends.

VettiyaIruken · 28/04/2020 17:30

Yes.

ReviewingTheSituation · 28/04/2020 17:31

To everyone saying yes they would... what about work?? The government can surely only bail us all out for so long. Furlough can't go on for ever. If the number of people on furlough ended up on benefits, the whole country would be on its knees in no time. Never mind where the money for the benefit bill will come from.

We can't just all sit at home for 12 months - it's simply not workable. The fit and healthy amongst us (and I count myself in that) will have to get out there earning and (more importantly probably) spending money.

Sunshine1239 · 28/04/2020 17:32

We lockdown a week after france so it seems to me we will come out end of May as their school starting back mid May

Grumpbum123 · 28/04/2020 17:33

Complete lockdown for a year would certainly mean my already fragile mental health will crash and I’ll likely kill myself

onanothertrain · 28/04/2020 17:37

With the current restrictions? No I wouldn't.

curlymom · 28/04/2020 17:39

Well you would have to try. Lockdown is happening for a reason, an important one that brings the economy to a standstill. If we need to keep extending it’s because people don’t follow lockdown rules in the early stages

TheNinjaWife · 28/04/2020 17:40

CV will be around for a long time. I’m not sure what will change in 3 weeks / 3 months or 12 months.

This^

Joans3rddaughter · 28/04/2020 17:42

No. Something else is at play if this is instructed

Sunshine1239 · 28/04/2020 17:42

I’ll admit I won’t do as I have been doing

I’d certainly start to meet up more for sure

It’s not going anywhere

There’s no difference now to sept

I don’t see why it’s ok for huge groups- like dozens- to congregate outside B&Q but not ok for me to go see my family for hour!

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/04/2020 17:43

If we need to keep extending it’s because people don’t follow lockdown rules in the early stages

I don’t know why people keep saying this. The government have said that far more people are complying with lockdown than they anticipated and planned for.

Sunshine1239 · 28/04/2020 17:44

Once I can return to work then I’ll go about my day as normal

If it’s safe enough for me to work and keep the economy going then it’s safe enough for me to meet family

Kcnana · 28/04/2020 17:46

Absolutely. I would rather not be here than to continue to live as we are.

Kcnana · 28/04/2020 17:47

absolutely not

ReviewingTheSituation · 28/04/2020 17:49

@curlymom I get why we're in lockdown. I really do. And I'm sticking to the guidelines rigidly. And I think it will be extended again (rightly).

But the original question was whether it would be extended for 12 MONTHS. The country simply can't support a full lockdown for 12 months. The economy can't just grind to a halt. If there's no money being earnt or spent, there are no taxes and therefore nothing to pay benefits with (or to fund the NHS...)

Very over simplistic, but we need to get back to work to keep the NHS going to manage the ongoing cases which are inevitable.

safariboot · 28/04/2020 17:52

I will follow the law. And what the law actually is is quite different to what the government, many Mumsnetters, and even many police officers want to think it is.

Beyond the legal requirements, I will do what I deem reasonable.

Anyway I think current restrictions for a year is unlikely.

safariboot · 28/04/2020 17:56

To give an example. If I need additional income I will have to apply for work. If I get a job that cannot be done from home, I can lawfully and will go to that job, however unimportant it might seem. Travelling to non-essential work has never been banned! But a lot of people seem to think it is, for example the police officers who threatened to fine a self-employed gardener. (Mentioned in another thread here).

If police try to fine me and I consider myself in the right, I will as the saying goes "have my day in court".

RicStar · 28/04/2020 17:58

No I would not. Would definitely see family.

peppermintcapsules · 28/04/2020 18:00

No. My son lives abroad. It's effecting me really badly mentally that we're not all together.
