Will you stick to the rules if lockdown in the UK is extended for another 12 months?

Yes or no?

Lots of people can't afford to stay in lockdown for much longer, let alone another 12 months.

inwood · 28/04/2020 15:42

No. I think society would totally fall apart.

I can't imagine may parents managing to not see the grandkids for another 12 months for a start, my mum has already started on the 'I want to see them again before I die' spiel and she's not even that old.

Bearbehind · 28/04/2020 15:42

Blatant thread cloning 😂

We can’t carry on like this for 12 months

We need to find a way of living with CV otherwise they’ll be no economy left and many people’s mental health will be destroyed

Springcatkin · 28/04/2020 15:42

How would that even work with schools / universities and exams? Ds is due to do his A levels next year; I hope he'll be back at college by half term or September at the latest. Dd is due to start uni in September so I certainly hope that will be back to normal for her to start.

nellodee · 28/04/2020 15:43

If we lockdown for 12 months, then due to R0 being under 1, we will have next to no cases in the whole country apart from those that are imported. We would be in a situation like New Zealand, where thorough testing and quarantining of new arrivals would mean we would not need a lockdown at all. This would hopefully happen long before 12 months was up.

That's what will change - we will get cases low enough so testing is a replacement for lockdown. We won't have to wait for a vaccine.

Now, will our government cock it up is another question entirely, but the options are not "lockdown until a vaccine" vs "give up".

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 28/04/2020 15:43

Fuck no. Don't even know if I can cope with another 12 days to be honest.

Chockablok · 28/04/2020 15:43

I'm unlikely to last 12 weeks.

I could social distance for a year I think, although it would be horrible. But only if "bubbles" were allowed to get bigger.

If the rules on two-household families don't change at this review then I will be going to see my partner anyway.

BirdieFriendReturns · 28/04/2020 15:43

On the other thread, people are saying for “as long as it takes.” 1 year? 5 years?

CrowCat · 28/04/2020 15:44

No. Absolutely not.

bobstersmum · 28/04/2020 15:44

Well if the government make the decision that we need to do it for the good of us all then I hope its enforced, it shouldn't be a case of, I've had enough so I'm doing what I want. There should be consequences for breaking it. It won't be a decision made lightly!

averytiredmom · 28/04/2020 15:45

No, it can’t last 12 months.

BeyondMyWits · 28/04/2020 15:45

Would ask people after a week of rain. A week of having to queue outside supermarkets and pharmacies in the cold rain.

We had to tell so many to not enter the pharmacy today (one customer at a time) because they did not want to stand outside any more - they would rather take the risk of Covid than get wet.

MunaZaldrizoti · 28/04/2020 15:45

I live with 2 frontline NHS workers, so yes I would. Because that is the best way I can protect them and it is literally the very least I can do. Its the very least we can all do.

JulietTango · 28/04/2020 15:45

No

rookiemere · 28/04/2020 15:46

Nope. Not even so much for me, but for DS 14 who is losing out on being in school, seeing his friends, putting on weight through lack of exercise and spending too long on computer games. He needs to be back at school - even in a socially distanced way - like yesterday. So I will support this for another short period of time, then we have to look at the other methods like contact tracing, testing etc. and the most vulnerable need to stay inside instead of everyone.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 28/04/2020 15:46

No.

ofwarren · 28/04/2020 15:46

It's never going to happen anyway. Not a chance they will keep a lockdown for 12 months.
The only ones who may have to do it are those of us on the shielded list and even then that's just advice.
We have a large garden and my husband is a high earner who works from home self employed. His business is very unlikely to be damaged by recession either so we are in a position to do this.
My shielded child is only 5 and I will do what it takes to protect him.

JulietTango · 28/04/2020 15:47

I'm not even allowed in the pharmacy I use. They come out

YorkshirePud1 · 28/04/2020 15:47

No way. I understand some restrictions might need to stay in place for a while, but I couldn't do another full 12 months of this. I'm so desperate to see my family and friends and my first baby is due in less than 3 weeks. The idea of not seeing anyone for another 12 months is awful.

Chockablok · 28/04/2020 15:48

@nellodee do you have a link that goes into detail on how the R wouldn't just go back to over 1 once restrictions are lifted?

I see you talk about it a lot but have never heard anyone official say it in that way.

It's my understanding the R moves around. And will move around.

So 3 months of lockdown R0.7
Followed by 6 weeks of social distancing while the R creeps back up to say R1.5?

Surely R always depends on the measures you have in place?

usernamenotavail · 28/04/2020 15:49

Absolutely not

MarshaBradyo · 28/04/2020 15:49

Can’t see it lasting that long, need some economic bang for as little increase in R0 as possible.

Also I don’t want furlough extended again, so much money already.

BirdieFriendReturns · 28/04/2020 15:49

It’ll be interested if we are allowed back to work whilst social distancing but not allowed to see friends and family still. Life will consist of working then going home and watching repeats on the television.

Lockdown is a rudimentary 'tool' for affecting the rate of transmission. They don't know where the virus is, anyone could have it, so we all have to be locked down and socially distance because we could be asymptomatic and spreading it around without realising. Also, many people do not know if they have had it or not (myself included). What the government needs to do is to pull their finger out when it comes to testing. For the virus and for antibodies. So they can track, trace and isolate where the virus is and quarantine people and their contacts accordingly. So routinely test everyone on a regular basis to get a handle on how the virus is spreading. I can't believe they abandoned this so early and didn't think about how we'd come out of this.

DailyKegelReminder · 28/04/2020 15:52

No. 1 more month at a max.
