Without getting into a debate about leaving the house etc (that’s been done to death) just wondering what others are doing/managing at the moment. Whether you are usually someone who does a lot or none at all, and how that measures up to what you are doing now?

For me, I’m usually a gym goer 2-3 times a week, plus 2 yoga classes. At the gym I do weights and had recently got back into spin class once a week too.

At the moment I’m still doing 2 yoga classes per week via zoom. Not exactly the same but keeping me ticking along. Doing a bit of yoga on my own another 1-2 times a week which I don’t usually manage due to not having the time!

I have been doing PE with Joe Wickes (and DS!) about 3 times a week which is not my first choice of activity but it’s something and I feel like I can commit to it. I’ve done a bit of resistance training from home but nothing consistent as I don’t really have much kit.

I’m also going out for walks at least once per day, some days twice. At least a mile each time, longer at weekends.

Aim to not lose too much fitness or conditioning whilst the gym/yoga studio are closed and not gain too much weight. Plus ‘keeping fit’ is a huge part of how I maintain my mental health even though in the current situation it’s a battle between not always feeling like doing anything but knowing I’ll feel better afterwards.

Before all of this I walked our dog and had a gym membership I hardly used. Now we’re all working/studying from home - First thing in the morning DH and I have been doing The Body Project workouts (did Joe wicks before found this one) - just finished week 1 of their real start workouts, and I’ve been walking our dog every night. Dd1 (back from uni) is coming on some dog walks and did a quick body project one yesterday. Dd2 is coming in on some dog walks, doing online ballet classes that she was doing in person before & joining us in some workouts if she’s up. I need to get fitter anyway so I have no excuses now - and I can definitely see when we’ve done some exercise our mental health is better.

BroomstickOfLove · 25/04/2020 12:16

I use the Bodybot app. It's pretty customizable. I set it to give me 45 minutes of exercise, 6 days a week, with a mixture of resistance, mobility and cardio training. I slipped todsyy, though Blush

puffinandkoala · 25/04/2020 12:38

I am doing quite a bit but it's not the same as being out and about generally, I am losing all the incidental exercise. Even something like walking to and from the car at my local leisure centre when I go swimming is around 600 steps, those sorts of things add up.

I go running 3 times a week and have a turbotrainer in the garage so have been cycling on Zwift (and going out for the odd real life cycle ride). I also do two PT sessions a week that my PT sets me to do.

It sounds like a lot but I am losing fitness now and running is a real slog. I know other people are getting fitter alternating a run and a fitness video session, all I can think is that they run around the house after their kids all the time!

I’m guessing the additional time and perception that cycling is now safer (due to lower traffic volumes) has given folk the confidence to get out there I saw on road.cc yesterday that twice the number of cyclists have been killed so far this year as in the same period last year. That does not fill me with confidence to try out the so-called safer roads. And if you stick to paths you have off lead dogs to contend with.

Normally swim before work and do yoga 4 days a week as well (mix of classes and YWA). Been in lockdown for 6 weeks but had a nasty cough for a lot of it so didn't even do yoga for a few weeks. Feeling very unfit.

I'm now doing yoga again and we are lucky to be close enough to the countryside to be able to do long walks at the weekend and that's fine but finding something to do to raise my heart rate is hard. Considered doing C25K (not a runner at all) but DH and I are doing shifts of work and childcare round each other which means it is difficult to leave the house without the kids during the week. So I think I'll start doing Joe Wicks with the DC. See how it goes.

My eldest is very sporty and normally does 7h organised sport (football and swimming) a week and she is really struggling as well with the lack of structured exercise so suspect she might start doing things with me which will be great. My second child is actually doing more than normal between Joe Wicks and regular trampolining breaks during the school day, her legs are getting really toned!

TheSquitz · 25/04/2020 12:45

I usually walk around 6 miles in the course of a working day- 3 miles there and 3 miles back. I'm only in one day a week at the moment so on the other days, I walk for around 6 miles early in the morning. I live in a suburban area and just vary my route. There are some lovely parks about so I sometimes include one on my route.

Hopethiswilldo · 25/04/2020 12:50

@NeverYouMind123 🤣🤣

feelingverylazytoday · 25/04/2020 13:00

Walking up to 5 miles a day, plus my own indoor routine every day when I remember. Things like squats, millions of crunches, dumbells, etc .

Firef1y72 · 25/04/2020 13:16

I'm doing 30min PT 5xweek over zoom (have a lot of the same equipment my PT uses anyway and we've always trained outdoors). Not the same as face to face but needs must. Cant wait until we can actually meet again in person as she's one of the few actual social contacts I have.

Also do her classes over fb live, think theres around 13 a week.

I also run 3-4x week. And walk on those days I dont run.

Plus I do my own strength training routine, had to adapt from high weight/low rep to low weight/high rep. Plus work out different exercises to replace the couple of machines I used in the gym (am most definitely a free weight and functional fitness kind of girl)

Oh and I do Beachbody on demand yoga 3-4xweek.

ponchek · 25/04/2020 13:17

6 miles hard cycle a day

BigChocFrenzy · 25/04/2020 13:34

Before lockdown, I was a gym rat 5-6 days per week and had a 40 minute walk along the Rhine most days

Now I take a 60-90 minute Rhine walk 5-6 days, 30 mins bike on 1 day

plus indoors about 40 minutes Tababa most days:
abs, upper body, lower body, cardio

I have XCo tubes, a few weights, kettlebell, assisted pull-up rack, punchbag, gym mat

I also do a few short flexibility and breathing exercises each week,

Blackandwhitehorse · 25/04/2020 13:54

Run 5k x3 a week, then random HIIT, yoga and Pilates on YouTube, plus usually an hours walk. I’d like to incorporate some body weight training into that, just say 15 mins three times a week.

Shodan · 25/04/2020 17:10

@silverdollarcity

I'm actually a sensei myself Blush 3rd dan black belt. I am going over some high grade katas that I and a couple of other senseis are learning for fun, and I stretch almost daily. And do some combinations I invent.

Other than that, any video-watching is of a sensei from another region that I don't particularly like, and takes the form of criticising his technique to myself while having a drink Blush Grin

CrunchyCarrot · 25/04/2020 17:12

A daily short walk. Before the lockdown I wasn't doing any exercise at all (I've had a bad back for years) but decided now might be a good time to do something gentle.

lljkk · 25/04/2020 17:35

Walks, cycling, gardening, DIY, a little running. my old normal was much more time at those plus kayaking & swimming. So my appetite has fallen off a cliff, but that's stress linked, too.

I don't have anywhere to put a rowing machine. I would rather stick pins under my fingernails than do a home workout, weights or yoga.

Bringringbring12 · 25/04/2020 17:41

I’m surprised - I’m really enjoying exercising in lockdown.

So, pre lockdown. Run 4x a week, 1 group hot yoga 4x a week. And then I’d do 30 mins of abs/kettlebells 2-3 times a week.

Post lockdown. Run 4-5x a week. 30 mins yoga every day. Brilliant weight online class 2-3x a week.

I feel really fit! Less walking, but in the afternoon take the children out for a good walk

Bringringbring12 · 25/04/2020 17:43

@CrunchyCarrot

When you say pre lockdown you weren’t doh anything but now you’re doing a short daily walk... do you really mean “nothing”? Surely you were short walking pre lockdown? Genuine question

MarginalGain · 25/04/2020 17:44

Luckily, we have a treadmill so I'm running as usual, perhaps more.

I do yoga from memory a few times a week but it's really hard for me to motivate without being in class.

Shayisgreat · 25/04/2020 17:48

I do 1 hour pilates classes twice a week on Zoom with my usual pilates instructor. I used to go to the gym 3 times a week but now instead I do 2/3 30 minute online weights classes and 2/3 45 minute Ballet Barre or cardio classes a week. I do these once DS has gone to bed.

I usually go for a walk with DS during the day for about an hour.

rookiemere · 25/04/2020 17:50

So before I did parkrun 5km most weeks, walked to and from work a couple of days, did 2-3 gym workouts per week and some dog walking.

During lockdown I signed up to an April pledge to walk 10k per day which I've managed through one long day walk and lots of walking around from home. For May I'm signing up to do 50km during the month so about 9 runs during that period, plus I'll keep up the walking on the other days.

I've dusted off my weighted hula hoop and do one exercise routine a day - vary between my gyms online ones, Joe Wicks and some weights sessions. Also do yoga one lunch time but am not enjoying it remotely.

Bigbouncingbaby · 25/04/2020 17:50

Running .... lots of it . I always ran most days before now I have just increased mileage

FreeButtonBee · 25/04/2020 21:23

Am doing jo wicks pretty much every morning- it’s been good for my 7yo very active son.

Running 1-2 times a week (rural route, up a hill)

Trying to do 1-2 yoga and/or barre classes which my normal spin studio is putting on. They are really hard! Then the occasional HIIT and weights session.

Plus some gardening and running around with the kids.

I miss getting a good number of steps in just through day to day life though

This is keeping me on The fat side of okay. Tummy is a bit puddingy but arse and thighs looking quite good! Need to lay off the home made cake

Hopefulmidwife · 25/04/2020 21:24

Walking daily - which I'm getting bored to death of. I've also been playing the wii - yoga and muscle exercises

Pipandmum · 25/04/2020 21:28

I have some weights and kettle bells. I am doing, via zoom, pilates, yoga and two personal training sessions a week. My daughter has been joining in. I walk my dogs daily too.
My son is studying to be a personal trainer and is used to going to the gym twice a day plus running. He injured his knee and has no weights but is doing online workouts and cycling.

Somanythingsmakemesad · 25/04/2020 21:32

I saw on road.cc yesterday that twice the number of cyclists have been killed so far this year as in the same period last year

This statistic is obviously skewed though if there are umpteen more cyclists on the roads.
