The GP can help with the anxiety attack.

If you’re “too anxious” too do anything to manage it then you need some help with that. The GP knows you and can help.

You are more likely to die of smoking related illness.

Smoking is actually showing to be beneficial so don't beat yourself up about that

Had touched lots of areas that would be full of the virus

You weren't in the Covid zone, so you won't have done this.

You don’t know you won’t do well. Please do try not to panic. I’m a few years older than you and not a well person. I don’t smoke but used to and have to be super careful with my health. I do tons of things to stop myself from going down with bronchitis / sinusitis in the winter. I had what was probably Covid and whilst it took a while, I’m ok. I was really scared of it. But like the vast majority of people, I came out the other end. It took a good month to feel my “normal”.

@Nquartz source on your bullshit statement please?

So many places full of virus

The big mistake you're making in this scenario is thinking this. Most places are definitely not "full of virus". Even if you didn't wash your hands the vast majority of people, infected or not, are washing regularly and using anti bac gel, especially in a hospital environment. So the chances of an infected person touching the exact same spots you did, recently enough to leave enough virus there for you to infect yourself, are remote.

There's nothing you can do now but hopefully you'll be okay, so please do try and relax.

Agree that you need to definitely practice better hygiene; is it usually like this?

As an anxiety sufferer myself - in a situation like this I would have taken many precautions and would have been super vigilant, so I'm a bit baffled really why you did all those things, going as far as to drop your water bottle even and then be in a panic now.

Can you use the fear to give you that extra motivation to give up smoking? Studies have shown your lungs start to recover once you stop smoking. Stopping smoking now will improve your chances, should you contract the virus, so it is something constructive you can do to help yourself.

The bottle dropped out of my small bag. Was poking out. My hand hygiene is normally impeccable. I was suffering with confusion as my fave head and neck were swollen die to the abscess.

@Frariedeamin I actually read an article yesterday supporting what @Nquartz posted regarding smokers having better COVID outcomes. Apparently the researchers think nicotine may have a protective effect, something to do with stopping the virus binding to something. They're going to test it as a treatment

I'll see if I can find the article

This might be where the other poster was coming from. Not quite sure how they got smoking is beneficial though.

This is your anxiety, suggest doing whatever normally works for you to help with that, and seeking help for your MH from your GP/MH service.

It is impossible to reassure someone with this level of anxiety.
You might be reassured for a minute, but then you will be asking for reassurance again.

Whole families don’t go down with this when one family member has it.
