I’m in Sydney and I think we had a total of 4 new cases countrywide yesterday.

We are still at home etc but I must say I’m feeling a lot more relaxed now and I’m seeing loads more people out and about. I had my hair cut yesterday and the shopping centre was fairly normal. Roads were pleasingly quiet at 5pm though - almost the best of both worlds!

I'm in Melbourne, a teacher WFH (or necking gin and tonic and doing fuck all according to threads on MN):o

It feels OK really, though I'd like to drive out and stay overnight, get away from the familiar. I'd like to get back into school as it's a damn sight less work than online teaching and marking.

Really waiting for libraries, cinemas, etc. to be back.

My kids have now been back at school all week - seems totally normal apart from more hand washing, taking temp in the morning and no assembly. And DH and I went out for brunch yesterday by the beach! It was lovely and all the 10 customers all seemed equally giddy and happy, as did the manager. Everyone taking photos etc Grin. So lovely to have a level of freedom again.

It’ll be nice when things open up a bit more although I’m rather a fan of limited people being at things and having to book in advance as I hate massive crowds at things at the best of times Smile.

I went to visit a family member in Melbourne today. So many people out and about in groups.

Was like a few days before Christmas in shops yesterday in Adelaide
So busy, so packed
But so refreshing to see and be around

Got asked by a Police Officer in country SA what I was doing in the area and why I was so far from home. I really wanted to say to him ‘it’s not illegal is it?’ but didn’t. It rattled me because I hate being made to feel like a criminal for doing something completely legal.

We’ve had one new case for weeks here and even that was really from back in March. I just hope the state government isn’t too cautious in opening back up. I’m just sick of seeing social distancing and Covid-19 signs everywhere as though that is the only thing that matters anymore. Even the ads in telly are all Covid related. The only I like is with lady using the ironing board for a desk the partner who walks past her zoom meeting naked. All the rest are vomit inducing.

@bluetongue that's such a frustrating encounter with the police officer!
Premier is encouraging people to travel within state!
Judging by the amount of caravans roaring past us heading up the river and day trippers roaming round Barossa this weekend it was ridiculous of that copper to question you!
I'm starting to feel similar to you... feeling frustrated that they are taking their time opening up... am very grateful for SA health and govt handling in general but wish they would be honest with aiming for elimination (rather than suppression) now.

Glad to hear from a fellow South Australian Fruchoc Smile

The problem with states eliminating the virus is that they are still part of Australia and there is no way they can keep borders shut until a vaccine is found (as much as some people want that to happen.) While I don’t think now is the right time to open state borders I don’t think you can just say they are shut indefinitely either.

At least we can finally have an alcoholic drink with our socially distanced meal out Grin

So is our whole town, everyone ignores them now. Especially as there been no cases on yorke peninsula. Every shop i went into in the city other day, everyone was ignoring them. Id say most over it.

I think SA gone from being admired of its handling of corona to now becoming a joke. We have some of the least cases yet lagging behind in opening up. Our footy teams have to hub in QLD (a high rate state) cos our health minister wants to keep her claws on the emergency powers.
Can anyone tell im getting really annoyed lol

DS (in Sydney) has just been told that Australia are unlikely to open the borders for international travel until 2021. Sad Best start re-planning our trip - again!

In my head I'm glad that the Aus Govt. is being cautious - my heart feels a little differently!

Yup, minister stated yesterday that likely borders shut for tourism/holiday purposes until next year. Some business travel may be allowed and talking about bringing in international students. Not surprised to be honest. We were meant to be heading the other way to visit family and extended 10 + week stay in uk but now it's too much bother plus we are worried about cost of travel skyrocketing (fam of 5 flying) fingers crossed for 2022! We are also presuming that until vaccine comes out quarantine on arrival will be in place for a while yet. This virus is a heartbreaker in more than a few ways that's for sure.
I hope you get to see your son asap @ajandjjmum.

Me too - was so excited for April, which obviously had to be cancelled, but then had Christmas to look forward to. Thank goodness for Facetime etc., but no-one hugs like he does! Sad

Hope your trip back to the UK can be planned before too long.
