Are you in Australia? Have you changed your behaviour as we have so few cases?

I’m in Sydney and I think we had a total of 4 new cases countrywide yesterday.

We are still at home etc but I must say I’m feeling a lot more relaxed now and I’m seeing loads more people out and about. I had my hair cut yesterday and the shopping centre was fairly normal. Roads were pleasingly quiet at 5pm though - almost the best of both worlds!

@JazzyTheDog probably a good time to become a pilot.
All current pilots looking for other jobs to pay the bills and a bit cautious about going back into flying so need young pilots starting.
Remember when Ansett stopped flying? The pilots got jobs in other sectors.

Ozgirl75 · 06/05/2020 03:29

The airline sector might struggle for a bit big basically humans love exploring and seeing new places, especially in Australia where the distances are so big. I predict (based on nothing more than gut feeling!) that things will be back to normal in a couple of years.

@Weenurse yeah that’s what we’re hoping, that there will still be strong demand for pilots in the future as it’d be at least 3.5 years before he’d be qualified anyway. I read only a few days ago of a pilot who’d worked for Ansett, lost that job, moved easily into Virgin and is still hopeful that as this situation resolves demand for aviation will continue.

Hoping we don’t lose Virgin as an airline as Qantas flights are always expensive.

My feelings about the App. Yes I’ve downloaded it. I want to know if I’ve been in contact for an extended period with anyone that has Covid. Similarly if I was diagnosed I would want everyone that I had those interactions with me to know.

I think the health and safety of the community overrides any possible breaches to my privacy ( which I consider unlikely)

I'm in Victoria. Here we can only go to the shops, haircut etc.

I'm staying home unless necessary and will continue to do so. It should not be lifted too early. Zero cases for several days before restrictions should be lifted.

We are getting a lot of mixed messages here about what will happen next week.

StartupRepair · 06/05/2020 04:05

I'm in Victoria. Really hope we don't get bundled back to workplaces and school s while cases are still rising. Stay strong Dan!

WhippetyStourie · 07/05/2020 11:00

One new case here in SA today - after 14 day run of zero new cases. Disappointing and raises a few questions as the patient arrived from the UK 6 weeks ago but Nicola Spurrier says he contracted it there.

ajandjjmum · 07/05/2020 11:47

Worrying if there's a 6 week incubation period!

StartupRepair · 07/05/2020 11:49

I had a test yesterday as I have a sore throat.

differentnameforthis · 07/05/2020 12:06

Nicola Spurrier says he contracted it there. They (the news) have now said he didn't contract it in the UK... who do we believe?

WhippetyStourie · 07/05/2020 14:19

I missed that update differentnameforthis . It is a strange one given the long timeframe between the onset of symptoms and testing positive. So maybe a recurrence?

timeisnotaline · 08/05/2020 06:14

Hmm you can have it for ages so he might have contracted it there. I hope it’s not just lazy contact tracing.
Interested in this pathway out of restrictions. I’m surprised to see restaurants and cafes opening up in phase 1.

timeisnotaline · 08/05/2020 06:16

And it doesn’t mention schools and universities!

differentnameforthis · 08/05/2020 10:09

I’m surprised to see restaurants and cafes opening up in phase 1. Only for outdoor dining though.

WhippetyStourie · 08/05/2020 12:40

Outdoor eating as we come into winter! I’ll be sticking to takeaway.

In SA schools seem to be more or less back to full attendance. My kids have returned to full classes this week. Uni & TAFE are returning to face to face tutorials from Mon.

SnowsInWater · 10/05/2020 00:04

So meetings of ten allowed here (NSW) from next Friday, I am torn between a cautious optimism that life is starting to get back to some kind of normal and fear - what if it’s a big mistake and we should have stayed locked down longer. I must say when I went to the Supermarket yesterday I went to Westfield for the first time in ages as I wanted a fish shop. Crowds were huge, it was impossible to keep the proper distance so we gave the fish a miss! Btw happy Mother’s Day to all 💐

Ozgirl75 · 10/05/2020 08:18

I also went to Westfield yesterday, popped to Coles and a couple of other places and it was busy and no one was keeping their distance at all.

differentnameforthis · 10/05/2020 08:47

@Ozgirl75 Same! I popped in to our Westfields too, and it was busier than Christmas!

Ozgirl75 · 10/05/2020 09:05

My husband had to queue outside Kmart!

SailingAwayIntoSunrise · 11/05/2020 02:31

Really happy with Dan's announcement for Victoria.

I think it's a good tentative step.

bluetongue · 11/05/2020 03:10

I’m currently in proper isolation / lockdown after getting a Covid test for a sore throat. Of course now I’ve had the test the sore throat seems to have disappeared. Maybe it’s a cure Grin

It’s great that we can get a test for such mild symptoms in Australia now and this seems to be a big part of our success.

SnowsInWater · 11/05/2020 05:55

Ha ha @Ozgirl75, we might have passed him. My DH refused to queue, said he didn't want whatever he was looking for that much 😂 Hope your boys are enjoying being back at school, DD was so excited she was up at 6am to get ready (we left the house at 7.45!!!!).

Starstruck2020 · 11/05/2020 06:07

@grumpyfuckerr I thought we could see friends, But no more than 10 people?

Starstruck2020 · 11/05/2020 06:10

@grumpyfuckerr my apologies I didn’t realise this thread was weeks old. Sorry we wouldn’t have been able to see anyone then, the “rules” are a bit crazy. I was jut excited to see someone from Perth Grin

squeekums · 16/05/2020 03:26

We in city SA atm and it's pretty normal traffic.
Dd school is as good as back to normal, soon to scrap all at home learning
Local caravan park filled up in 24 hours
We going out as we please now, seeing who we please. As are what seems like most.

Just wish sa health would have their emergency powers removed so we can start footy back on this state and not have our teams hub interstate. That woman is the one holding it up. Premier would have allowed it if she said ok.
