Summer holidays and positive thinking

Have you anything booked and what do you think the chances are of being able to go?

We are meant to be in Turkey at the beginning of August. I think I'll cry if it's all off but prefer to think positive right now.

Iceland in July - balance due midMay - likely will pay balance and hoping to go .

TokyoSushi · 21/04/2020 18:33

@MrsWhites yes, very, very lucky, we lived in Orlando and worked in Disney a very long time ago. We've always wanted to take the DC but as you know, it's just so expensive!

Excellent tip about the dining - thank you! I hope you get to go!

MinesaPinot · 21/04/2020 18:55

We're due to go to Greece at the end of August. DH is staying positive but I suspect we won't be going. We'll still have the time off and go away in this country of we can.

MrsWhites · 21/04/2020 19:02

@TokyoSushi thank you, we need to make the final payment next month or lose our deposit. At the moment whether we will pay it or not changes on a daily basis.

Iamclearlyamug · 21/04/2020 19:10

I moved my cancelled flights from the end of March to the end of May - I know they will be cancelled too so will move them again to July and see what happens

I'm praying and praying I can fly by then as me and my fiance are separated until I can, it's already been 2 months apart 😭😭

DBML · 21/04/2020 19:23

We’ve got a very special holiday booked this summer. Just over a month away in the Florida Keys. We’ve waited literally years for this holiday and it’s to celebrate a couple of really big occasions. I can’t believe after all of this waiting - it might not happen 😭
I know we can book, perhaps for next year, but that’s if I can get enough of my money back. We book a lot DIY. Some of our hotels are booked direct and I worry that they may all be open and ready to accept guests but we can’t get there...so no refunds.
If this happens, then we likely won’t be going next year as we will have to save again.

We have holiday insurance, but it’s an annual policy. It runs out a few weeks before we go and is set to renew...but obviously going to renew on new terms. So therefore I don’t even think insurance will cover us.

I am praying for a miracle, but expecting the worst.

noraclavicle · 21/04/2020 19:41

This was the year we decided to go to Northern Italy - and DH insisted on last week of July rather than the usual 1st week of August. I’m hoping for a miracle but if I put my realistic hat on I guess it’ll be Northern England if we’re lucky...

blue25 · 21/04/2020 19:47

Supposed to be going away in August but definitely won’t be going.

I’m pretty sure it will get cancelled but even if the option was there, I’m not getting on a plane or risking getting ill abroad anytime soon!

colouringindoors · 21/04/2020 19:52

France in August - I suspect not. Cancelled Cumbria at Easter already. I know its a first world problem but I do really miss having a holiday to look forward to...

Springcatkin · 21/04/2020 19:53

We have a cottage on the north york moors booked for end June. Not sure yet what will happen but if nothing is open in the local area might want to reschedule

Sunshine1239 · 21/04/2020 19:54

I expect most of us will have been exposed by August and so it’ll be business at usual over Europe

Those who are likely to get very ill will already be ill by then

Is pretty contagious

Lenny1980 · 21/04/2020 20:01

@DBML I would think that on an annual policy for cancellations/unable to travel it will depend on the terms when you booked the holiday. Otherwise there is not much point in having an annual policy if they can just change the terms after you have booked trips.

lynsey91 · 21/04/2020 20:08

I can't really see holidays abroad happening before September/October if at all this year.

I know me and DH won't be going abroad even if we could. If either of us were to catch the virus we would rather be in the UK than be ill abroad and maybe have to go into hospital.

Depending what happens we might get a holiday in the UK but really not that hopeful even for that

Prisonbreak · 21/04/2020 20:09

Due to leave on Sunday for a cruise.... obviously not going

ifoughtforliberty · 21/04/2020 20:18

Yes two holidays booked and a third trip was planned, one cancelled already and the other will be too I'm sure. I know we are so lucky that we go abroad so much but I am still gutted. I look forward to our holidays all year.

I'm hoping that worse case scenario means that we get a trip away in the UK somewhere.

ANoiseAnnoys · 21/04/2020 20:21

Have already had a holiday to Greece over Easter cancelled and were supposed to be going to Cornwall at the end of July. I’m gutted but doubt it’ll be happening.
Even if the government have relaxed UK travel by then, I can’t see the locals living in tourist hotspots being happy with thousands of holidaymakers trekking there.

As for holidays abroad I reckon it may be next year and not until stringent testing is widely introduced.

elfycat · 21/04/2020 20:33

We're supposed to be on a canal narrowboat (UK) in the half term, and then a week in a cottage on the coast in Yorkshire at the end of August. Disneyland Paris was cancelled and refunded from last week.

We never book ahead - last year to Florida was decided on the Thurs, booked Fri and we flew out on Tues. This year we had 4 things booked (the other was at the Natural History Museum for a sleepover (March now rebooked for Sept)) and I think it was a waste of time and none of it will be happening.

We're still holding out a little hope - the cottage is through DH's work and we could take our groceries. There's a tiny beach/cove nearby and lots of walks on open land/nature reserve. We could socially distance easily if needed, but obviously wouldn't go if there were any travel restrictions/lockdowns at that time. We'll just have to wait to see what the rules are at the time.

freddiethegreat · 21/04/2020 20:39

I booked Snowdonia at the end of August last week. Fingers firmly crossed!

ifonly4 · 21/04/2020 20:43

We were meant to be going to Crete early April. Had my eyes on location for a few years.

Holding out for camping with friends in the UK late July, but who knows.

Longwhiskers14 · 21/04/2020 20:52

Paid for flights to Majorca for August and a deposit on an apartment. I was hopeful until I read that the Regional Government in Tenerife has said it won't allow foreign visitors back until the autumn. If one island takes that stance, others are likely to follow.

DBML · 21/04/2020 20:59

@Lenny1980

Oh I do hope you’re right! I’ll look into that. Thank you for letting me know!

croon979 · 21/04/2020 21:05

Holiday of lifetime booked for Disney Florida in October half term. We won’t be going even if We could technically get there which I doubt will be the case. I think international travel will be affected for a long long time

flowerycurtain · 21/04/2020 21:08

A touring caravan site in July. I'm hoping but if we don't get away we'll try and get into a site in October. The n in Dec when quiet at work we'll aim to head to a lovely hotel for a real rest.

M0recakeplease · 21/04/2020 21:14

France late August and we were planning on driving. Only paid £100 and balance due 4 weeks before. I’m really hoping travel restrictions might have eased up by then (we are a low risk household).

Ifeel1000yearsold · 21/04/2020 21:18

We have a uk based trip at the end of August. I’m hopeful.
