...what do you think will happen?

NOT with regards to schools, I think we all know those probably aren’t going back in three weeks and there’s too many threads speculating anyway.

I’m just interested if people think that the lockdown will be lifted or extended, or somewhere in between where some things open.

“Now the furlough scheme has been extended until the end of June, I reckon the there may be a staggered release then. I hope it's sooner but I can't see it.“

This.

Thank you

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 21/04/2020 15:20

I hope it's extended after watching panorama last night one sniff of the virus and I'm gone Sad. I'd rather be stuck at home bored then go back to normal then catch it.

Remmy123 · 21/04/2020 15:24

I think they will stagger things after 3 weeks,l hope.

Whaddyathinkofthis · 21/04/2020 16:23

Death have doubled since yesterday

I didn't see this but i did hear earlier that the deaths outside of hospital figure was going to be released today. Could it have been that?

SarahTancredi · 21/04/2020 16:35

Honesltly I dont think they really anticipated having to make the decision given all the countries affected of it and potentially the information regarding combinations of treatment that would hopefully be available and all the countries working on a vaccine i think.they expected there to be answers that enabled the decision to relieve restrictions

Theres no way to lift restrictions as it stands as far to many people will be put at risk so I think they will carry on extending it and/or making it impossible for people to keep it up until we riot and end it ourselves.

All this talk of stages of release. The same peope go into.multiple establishments so what difference does it make if you are in a food shop or a clothes shop. A hairdresser or a car garage. If you are out amongst people you are out amongst people wherever you are.

SarahTancredi · 21/04/2020 16:40

I also think that lockdown hasn't really had the desired effects as much as hoped because now people are being left at home when they should be in hospital and that's why the deaths arent dropping as much as you would expect

hammeringinmyhead · 21/04/2020 16:41

Yes, you are amongst people, but in a supermarket it's the same few people doing their shop who were let in at the same time as you. If you go to three clothes shops and are infected with no symptoms that's 3 sets of people you are risking, and you're pretty much guaranteed to infect the person cutting your hair.

Kirschcherry · 21/04/2020 16:43

I think a few restrictions will be lifted. Garden centres will open, some shops, estate agents might open (important to the economy) but viewings will be virtual.

hammeringinmyhead · 21/04/2020 16:44

Anyway, with regards to the end of this extension I'm hoping they will allow visits to non-vulnerable family and friends at home but there isn't an economical benefit - unless of course you need childcare because you're expected back in work in May while schools are going to be shut until September, according to Mumsnet...

SarahTancredi · 21/04/2020 16:48

Yes but if they are talking about lifting restrictions on.some non essential shops and not others then theres no real difference is there. If clothes shops are opened and salons.then you can use them.yes? What's safer about a clothes shop compared to say a toy shop? Food shops are still open now. I more meant when they decide to re open other shops . Those currently deemed non.essential.

InTheShadiws · 21/04/2020 16:58

I think there'll be a slow lifting of restrictions in 3 weeks.

The NHS as a whole isn't just coping but is quiet and not enough work to do.

SophieB100 · 21/04/2020 17:03

I think it will be extended, and I'm basing that on those five things that had to be met before they look at changing it, can't remember them off hand but they included a lot of daily testing, enough PPE for now and the future, a steady dip in deaths/admissions. That isn't going to happen within 3 weeks, well if it does then it will be amazing. Also, the BBC has done 13 weeks of online resources/learning for kids...the government are rolling out WIFI and computers for extra kids too.

They said it will be a very gradual lifting of restrictions too...so I think we're in for the long haul here. How sad it all is.

hammeringinmyhead · 21/04/2020 17:10

Well... I think some things are an a scale? For example, all of the garden centre stock will sit and rot if not bought which makes furloughing the staff pointless; the businesses wouldn't survive a 0 income spring/summer. I can definitely see a logic in opening say Argos before Jo Malone. I'm not sure they would discriminate between clothing shops and toy shops.

SarahTancredi · 21/04/2020 17:17

Still it would be the same people on both though wouldnt it? Depends if they apply the logic or not really.

Argos for instance you have multiple touch screen things , and theres crowds in one area waiting for their items.

Jo malone could say have a slow but steady steam.of people able to easily distance and not touch any thing other than what they buy.

Still tbh we are all gonna be in the same boat when its released if whether its tomorrow or in three weeks. Theres no cure or vaccine after all.

Plus no one can go back to work unless schools open , childminders open for non key worker children

bluebeck · 21/04/2020 17:36

Agree with PP - another three weeks.

They know some people will be thick enough to break the restrictions and will get the virus. This allows a steady flow which doesn't overwhelm the NHS for the original 12 weeks they have been organising around.

At the end of the 12 weeks restrictions will hopefully be totally lifted, maybe still some social distancing. Then when the NHS looks close to capacity again they will lockdown again.

puffinandkoala · 21/04/2020 17:48

Why would we need 12 weeks restrictions when the likes of Germany and Austria are lifting theirs (yes I know they have fewer deaths but that's only one of the criteria and has a lot to do with the fact that they get people into hospital in time instead of fobbing people off on 111).

The furlough has been extended because there's no easy answer for leisure and hospitality. Not because they expect eg estate agents not to be working in some capacity

alwayshappy93 · 21/04/2020 17:50

@ChrisPrattsFace I'm with you, it's amazing not seeing my in-laws

TeddyIsaHe · 21/04/2020 18:37

It doesn’t need to be 12 weeks, we hit the peak on the 8th of April according to scientists. My sister doesn’t have much to do at work (ward sister on a covid ward) so the nhs is fine currently.

puffinandkoala · 21/04/2020 18:41

Interesting to see what the Dutch are doing. Extension to 20 May, but not really, as they are reopening schools earlier but with morning and afternoon shifts. Gradual reopening of sports clubs but no professional football until 1 September. No large gatherings (don't know how large). No visitors to care homes. No cosmetic services/nail bars allowed to open.

SunShine682 · 21/04/2020 18:54

No cosmetic services/nail bars allowed to open

I hope this doesn’t happen here. My nails need doing and my hair.

LilacTree1 · 21/04/2020 18:54

Puffin “ No visitors to care homes”

Cruel.

edgeware · 21/04/2020 18:59

LilacTree1

Quite.

My grandmother is in a care home in the Netherlands. None of my family have been allowed to visit for 5 weeks now. My mum got a message the other day that there is coronavirus there. Surprise surprise, the countless part-time care staff travelling in on public transport have brought it there anyway. So what’s the point of keeping family away?

LilacTree1 · 21/04/2020 19:04

edgeware I’m so sorry.

It really is inhuman to keep people trapped in low quality of life, just because the governments don’t want them adding to figures.

southeastdweller · 21/04/2020 19:06

The peak of infections has been reached, hasn't it? I agree there'll be some restrictions lifted after this current lockdown such as small businesses will be allowed to reopen and we'll be allowed to go to funerals and visit families, that kind of thing. I imagine social distancing will be in place for months.
