Lockdown better or worse with good weather?

Just wondering whether people think lockdown is easier and more adhered to with better weather. Kids play in garden , bbqs etc (but then there is the other side of the coin people wanting to go out more because it's nice)
Or if it was raining every day would more people adhere to the rules and not go for daily exercise but mental health would certainly take a hit staying in the house and hardly going out.
Or would people not mind as much that it is raining they aren't missing doing things outside and don't mind staying in?

What do people think would be better for lockdown overall
Sunny days or Rain?

I much prefer the rain. The sunny weather just brings out the worst in my neighbours!

I'm lucky to have a small garden, but haven't been able to use it due to the
loud music, shouting and fighting in the garden next to mine.

The rain brings peace and calm. It's heaven.

Pissing down in Brum - and set to stay for the day.

We'll see when we go shopping later ...

I'm in the bitter camp as we have no garden and a toddler. I want a week of solid rain so the really annoying lockdown people with all their garden photos and #makingmemories bullshit can actually see how fucking hard it is with a child and no outdoor space. We had rain all day yesterday and still went out on our 1 allotted walk, if we had a garden we probably would of stayed in when raining but a toddler needs to burn off energy and 1 walk a day just isn't cutting it for her.

The sun lifts my spirit, also it's much warmer which is a bonus.

I tend to get more practical things done in a sunny day, today I'm just thinking sort a couple of financial things, take DD to work (to avoid public transport), do jigsaw, read, watch a film. The rain won't stop me from a walk, but I don't fancy cycling or walking up the hill which is very close.

feelingverylazytoday · 18/04/2020 09:25

I prefer the sun, but I still go out for walks in the rain so I get the same amount of exercise.

I think for families with young children and gardens, warmer weather is easier. If no gardens warner is harder.

For young people, warmer weather seems to mean they go out more, so probably on balance, better for society to have cold and wet weather, in a pandemic.

I have no garden and am stuck in a one bedroom flat. So honestly it makes less difference to me because I can’t sit out chilling in my garden in the sun anyway and it’s shit not being able to stop in the park at all. I love going on walks in the sun, but it’s also busy on all the nice routes.

Sun all the way, I would be so bloody miserable if we were locked down in the depths of winter when it gets dark at 4pm.

We’ve been really lucky with the weather this year, the odd miserable day is fine as it at least stays light until 8pm now.

cologne4711 · 18/04/2020 11:00

Rain is better for me because it means I can go out for a run without having to dodge people constantly. I went out yesterday afternoon. There were definitely more cars around though, but that is less of a problem.

Delatron · 18/04/2020 11:04

Sun and warm weather is definitely helping here.
Walking the dog and kids is pleasant and we are lucky to have a garden. Though I hate being indoors.

Was chatting to a friend about how awful this would be if it happened in Dec/Jan. imagine it getting dark at 4 and that’s it for the day. So boring. Enjoying evening walks and bike rides at the moment too.

avocadotofu · 18/04/2020 11:32

I think it's much easier when it's lovely and sunny out.

thatgingergirl · 18/04/2020 15:37

I don't mind what the weather is like but am glad of the light days. Love looking out at the sunny garden, but don't sit in it (feel a bit guilty about having it!). Don't mind the drizzle today - means I can quite reasonably sit down to watch "Oliver!".

Btw OP - is your username referencing the band? I just love their music!

Ginfordinner · 18/04/2020 15:43

Sunny weather is bettter for my mood. We are lucky and have a garden. We are also rural. If we end up with loads of gloomy weather for the next few weeks I will feel really down..

Cherryghost · 18/04/2020 17:03

Thatgingergirl yes my user name is in reference to the band Smile
No one I know has even heard of them they are so underrated.Sad

Cherryghost - my "go to" music (along with China Crisis). Sadly, no gigs in the last few years.

I've been wondering if we'll get some big names at smaller venues whilst the stadiums/NEC type gigs are off limits!

Stellamboscha · 18/04/2020 17:48

I was wondering this yesterday because has been gorgeous weather till now and it seemed to hat with the horrible reality. Then it rained and was windy so was wishing it was hot again. So... no idea!
Back to work tomorrow (teacher delivering Zoom lessons) -guessing will have more pupils zooming if weather is bad.
