The rise in 'non Covid related' deaths

This was mentioned on the news yesterday, we've been talking about it for a couple of weeks.

With people not going to the Gp's, A&E's for anything other than serious emergencies there's surely going to be a massive amount of undiagnosed illnesses.

Personally, I've had an appointment cancelled for (what they think is) abdominal adhesions related to EMCS, but some lumps/cysts were spotted during pregnancy/birth. No real emergency apart from pain and some occasional localised swelling, so cancelled for the foreseeable (after waiting 6 months for the appointment).

I understand my cancellation, but what of others being missed?

I completely agree with you.posters saying that other lives are being lost in order to save COVID19 patients or that we need to re open quickly in order to.prevent deaths from.other causes seem to be assuming that the NHS will just open back up and normal service will be resumed. Of course that wouldn't happen. The number of people seriously ill from C19.would rocket so the NHS still.wouldnt be able to.run other services but the rest of society would also be impacted.

I don't see any way around this.unless they can reduce the number of cases so low that they can be contained within special hospitals, allowing other hospitals to operate as normal, but that relies on being able to reliably identify who has it and who might be incubating it so that the non Covid hospital isn't contaminated. Maybe they will be able to do.this.once lockdown is over if they can test everyone and can reliably track and contact trace. There seems to.be an awful lot to put in place though before we are at that point.

Bluntness do you honestly believe none of those excess deaths are covid related? Why do you think the death in care homes/communities is so much less in the UK (10%) than other counties (40-60%)? Is it not much more likely that it is not being measured properly? Also it is likely that the lockdown itself is resulting in a lower death rate from RTA, sports injuries, fights outside pubs etc. also I don’t understand why people think it’s the lockdown resulting in more deaths arising from delays in treatment from the NHS. These delays would likely be more if there’s no lockdown - as the NHS would be even more overwhelmed.

Those excess deaths include things like suicide due to alcoholism, or mental health issues, or children not getting the care they need, Please don’t airbrush them from history.

Their deaths count just as much,

To reassure those worried about visiting A and E for say asthma heart pain etc a friend of mine took himself to casualty with heart pain. He's not in the at risk group but he was seriously worried. He said it's been split into 2 areas... covid and then your usual broken bones asthma heart etc and all triaged. He was seen, had bloods done, an ECG! and other tests and was discharged as fine. No additional hanging about.
