Click and collect shopping orders

Hi, apologies for what is undoubtedly a silly question, but can someone explain exactly what happens with a click and collect order at the moment please? We have been shielding our child for 4 weeks and had no contact with anyone outside the household. Up until now we’ve successfully managed to get food deliveries but have only been able to get a click and collect for the next few weeks. I’ve never done one before and am trying to weigh up whether it’s worth the risk - does it require me to have contact with anyone? Thank you

Have you registered your child as vulnerable?
With Tesco, you can get deliveries within 48 hours.

Click and collect
You drive up into the space
They come over, within 2 meters distance hopefully, you give your name
They get your stuff and leave it at the back of your car. You pack, then leave

We had masks and gloves when we went and they didn't put us in a space , because the spaces are close to others

Wear gloves and a mask.
And ask them to step back

Which Supermarket?

Belindabelle · 13/04/2020 23:00

Very safe. You go to the designated area of the supermarket car park. Give your name and order no. Either bags are loaded into your boot and you drive away or you retrieve the bags from a crate put them in boot and drive away. No contact needed.

At Waitrose you have to go to the Welcome Desk and the shopping is brought to you.

Whispersinthemorning · 13/04/2020 23:07

I was wondering this too! I have one at Waitrose coming up. If you have to go to the welcome desk does that mean you have to queue to go into the store or is it separate? Thanks 😊

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2020 23:11

You have to queue up @Whispersinthemorning, as they are only allowing so many people in the store at any one time.
But it might not hurt to ring ahead and ask if there's a way around it.

PatchworkElmer · 13/04/2020 23:12

I went to Asda today- drove up, phoned a number, opened the boot. They loaded the boot and shut it for me, and I drove off. Perfect!

AmIAStone · 13/04/2020 23:13

Waitrose you have to go into the shop, although with a click and collect order they let you skip the queue for the shop and go straight to the desk.

JustStayHome · 13/04/2020 23:14

@PatchworkElmer

Thats amazing!

irwellmummy · 13/04/2020 23:14

Went for my asda click and collect today and it was supposed to be a locker collection. This is where all your food is bagged up in refrigerated lockers outside of the supermarket so I thought it would be really quite safe. Got there and the lockers weren’t being used and I had to queue up to collect my order in store with everyone who had been shopping in store drifting passed me as I waited 25 minutes to have my shopping brought out to me. It was fine but definitely not what I anticipated. Looking at the asda website for that particular store there are plenty of slots available for next Tuesday, think everyone has realised it’s no better than going around yourself. Think the drive through ones are much better.

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2020 23:16

This is the reply from Waitrose in Twitter when a customer asked if they had to join the queue for Click and Collect

Hi, you'll need to queue outside the shop - this is to keep the numbers down on the shop floor.

PatchworkElmer · 13/04/2020 23:17

@JustStayHome I know, I was dubious when I booked it (never done click and collect before), but I have to say I’m seriously impressed. We’re not shielding but we are being very very cautious as DH has nasty asthma, so I found it really reassuring.

Lou573 · 13/04/2020 23:17

It’s a large ASDA, I think there’s a drive through option. I might ring the store to confirm, that’s a good idea.

@JustStayHome - we have registered, but Tesco don’t seem to have us on their list for some reason yet.

Does anyone know how Morrison's click and collect works?

Tatum1234 · 13/04/2020 23:39

Morrison’s we had an email when it was ready to collect then once we were at the car park had to click a link In the email to say we’d arrived. They loaded the shopping into the boot so didn’t need to get out of the car, it was very good.

TheFlis12345 · 13/04/2020 23:43

@Sparklingbrook At my local Waitrose you don’t have to queue for collections, you just show your order details to the guy on the door and they let you in. Worth checking locally as it clearly differs.

Knittingnanny · 13/04/2020 23:44

Asda click and collect was extremely easy and straightforward

MoonfaceAndSilky · 13/04/2020 23:46

Thanks Tatum

Sparklingbrook · 14/04/2020 00:01

Yes @TheFlis12345, it seems the official Twitter advice isn't being adhered to in all stores by the sound of it.

JustStayHome · 14/04/2020 00:23

OP
I have PM'd you

Peppafrig · 14/04/2020 00:29

Are you a previous customer with Tesco I thought they were only using the database to match up with existing customers . My mum is on the list and only got contacted from Asda the one she uses normally no where else.

Florence50 · 14/04/2020 00:46

@JustStayHome
Please tell me how you manage to get deliveries within 48 hours from Tesco.

JustStayHome · 14/04/2020 01:00

I'm on the extremely vulunarable list as is my nan.
We live 80 miles away, but we can both get Tesco deliveries within 48 hours of logging on

JustStayHome · 14/04/2020 01:10

Sometimes im lucky and there on there straight away, sometimes i have to try for afew hours, clicking on and off...

Maybe iv been lucky so far

ClientQ · 14/04/2020 01:15

@JustStayHome very! I've waited three weeks for a slot and they're booking 20 days in advance at the minute Shock
