Sorry if it's a daft question, but when is the lock down review? Still today?

I heard Thursday. Don’t expect it to change thou..

TokyoSushi · 13/04/2020 15:11

It seems to be Thursday, I wouldn't get your hopes up though...

Mustbetimeforachange · 13/04/2020 15:13

It's Thursday because the law which says it should be reviewed every 3 weeks didn't come in to force until Thursday 26th.

Laiste · 13/04/2020 15:13

Thursday?!
But they promised a review every 3 weeks.

This is just unbelievable.
I mean we need to know.
They must know!

I heard it was Thursday and wondered why. Thanks @Mustbetimeforachange

Not expecting anything to change though. I imagine it will be 3 more weeks of the same. There might be a chance of tighter restrictions, but I think nothing will change TBH

Laiste · 13/04/2020 15:16

I mean i hadn't got my hopes up for change. But i wanted the three week review at the three week mark.

You work towards these milestones y'know? :(

OP posts:
thesedaysarescary · 13/04/2020 15:17

They've said over and over this week that there will be no change till they have enough data to prove the peak has passed. If you watch the daily update you will know when anything changes. Don't think anything will be changing anytime soon.

kimlo · 13/04/2020 15:17

we do know. It's far to early to consisder loosenijg the restrictions, we haven't even peaked yet.

Laiste · 13/04/2020 15:20

Thank you all.

I'm uncharacteristically unchirpy today.

Ginfilledcats · 13/04/2020 15:21

It's Thursday because that's when the laws came into effect, plus BOJOs admission I'm sure has slowed review and decisions down.

I think it's unlikely the restrictions will get lesser. Best case scenario I expect the same for additional 3 weeks. Worst case I do t want to consider. Likely preventing outside exercise etc but I think the country will just have an upheaval if they suggest that

Joans3rddaughter · 13/04/2020 15:21

"They" do know!.
Look at Italy and Spain. We are weeks behind them. My guess is at least another 3 weeks of the current situation if not 6. Why do "we NEED to know" now?

Bluntness100 · 13/04/2020 15:22

I’m not sure what you were expecting op but it’s reviewed weekly they have stated that, just because there is no public announcements doesn’t mean it isn’t.

There will be a public statement on Thursday. I think it’s overwhelmingly obvious that they will extend lock down for another two to three weeks to get us past the peak.

It would be great if they said, if all goes well we will lift some restrictions on x date and this is the plan, but I’m not sure they will go that far. They will still want to not confuse the message and focus instead of getting people to stay in.

But if you were hoping they would lift them this week, I think sadly you were being optimistic .

slipperywhensparticus · 13/04/2020 15:23

They need to get the death rate reporting sorted out days that see a huge jump then they say oh its because deaths are reported differently over the weekend well why issue figures if they are wrong? They dont include care homes or deaths that happen in the community again why? How are you supposed to see when the peak is unless you actually get correct data I hope people analysing it actually have the correct figures to analyse this whole thing comes off like a mess of epic proportions

Laiste · 13/04/2020 15:24

I wasn't really expecting anything specific. I guess i was mentally just working towards the proper 3 week mark. Even if it was to be told no change.

I must admit i stopped watching the daily update about a week ago. And the last 5 or 6 days i've not watched the news either. I've watched BBC Breakfast news most days for years.

I understand your hopes but you need to be realistic. I think it’s highly unlikely any easing will happen. Don’t forget vulnerable people have been advised to isolate for twelve weeks - that’s a much more realistic time frame to work with although I’d expect gradual easing of restrictions to take place during that timescale.

The government are watching Italy and Spain closely now they appear to have passed their peaks because that’s going to be our best indicator of how we should manage things here.

Easilyanxious · 13/04/2020 15:28

I don't think they know when realistically restrictions can be lifted I think we will be looking closely at what happens in other countries who are slightly ahead of us to see what impact it has on them . This is all so new to everyone but I expect us to be kept at same measures for at least another 3 weeks ( maybe stronger measures if loads have flouted this weekend ) even when restrictions are lifted I think it will be bit by bit not just going to say right all back to normal .i will be just grateful for when we can at least visit family again that's the bit I'm finding the hardest at the moment

Leontine · 13/04/2020 15:49

I came on here specifically to see if anyone knew as I missed the update today and couldn’t find anything online.

I’m sure that lockdown will be extended but am wondering if we aren’t given a date or at least a clear time frame then will people just assume it’s ended and start going out again?

LeggyLinda · 13/04/2020 15:50

They said it would be reviewed in 3 weeks. I don't think that any announcement would lift the restrictions, but they should at least announce it explicitly.
I'm only talking anecdotally, but quite a few people around here seem to have taken the view that no news = assume the lockdown is lifted. We've even received a flyer from the local cafe promoting their intention to re-open this week including a "welcome back" voucher for coffee and cake.
Whatever the government's intention is they need to clarify it specifically.

ifonly4 · 13/04/2020 15:51

I read that they'll look at the scientific data on Wednesday, but may well need time to consider alongside figures released by Department of Health that afternoon, so looks like Thursday.

Leontine · 13/04/2020 15:57

@ifonly4 I think that’s a mistake on the governments part then as I don’t think it’s very good for morale that we’re in an indefinite lockdown with no end in sight.

Parker231 · 13/04/2020 15:59

The legislation was passed on the Thursday and the three weeks is up this Thursday. I expect the lockdown will continue with a review in another three weeks. We’ve probably not reached the peak yet so too soon for anyone to state when things will change towards normality.

Laiste · 13/04/2020 16:07

I'm glad it's not just me who feels entitled to their Three Week Announcement. Even if it's just to announce the bleedin' obvious Grin

I didn't know about the 'Thursday law'. That'll teach me for not watching the news regularly any more ...

I didn't consider the risk of people thinking no announcement = no more lockdown. Will many really think that?

OP posts:
Isitmyimagination · 13/04/2020 16:46

I hope everyone realises this is the first wave, the first lockdown. There will be no vaccine for maybe a year or so, and remember only a fraction of the population have been infected so far. I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but we should at least consider a series of loosening (temporarily) then tightening of restrictions. This way the spread can be controlled and the NHS can cope.

cologne4711 · 13/04/2020 16:53

The announcement will be on Thursday and my hunch is that the lockdown will be extended (on the same terms, not made stricter) until May 10th to cover the early May bank holiday weekend. And then a gradual easing with the emphasis on gradual.
