Would I be breaking the rules to take toddler out twice?

I had new born and 2.5 year old. If I went for my exercise in the morning and took them both in the double pram to get toddler to nap, and then in the afternoon DH went for his daily exercise pushing the same toddler on his trike to let off some energy and get some fresh air (no garden) would we be rule breaking?

Not breaking the rules at all.

Sillysop92 · 13/04/2020 11:49

Go for it, why would anyone object?

Ninkanink · 13/04/2020 11:52

No, it’s not even technically breaking the guidelines.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/04/2020 11:58

I said this to DH the other day. I could take DD(6) for a walk in the morning and he could take her in the afternoon. She’s so full of energy and the garden just isn’t cutting it.

In response to PPs talking about not doing it in London: We live in a town that is well known but not a tourist destination. Our walks have been quite busy with other people (distancing not an issue 99% of the time) because our town has a few green spaces that are nice for walking. Unless you live in a tiny village, I don’t think the area you live in links to how many people you’ll see. Everyone is searching out the green because it makes for a nicer walk than housing areas or deserted office buildings/shops.

Frompcat · 13/04/2020 12:00

We do this. Can't see why it would be an issue. We live in London BTW.

Chiyo666 · 13/04/2020 12:02

Meh. I’ve been taking mine out twice a day to the beach. We have no garden and we maintain social distancing rules.

Krisskrosskiss · 13/04/2020 12:05

You shpuldnt have asked on here! People are rabid about the specific rules on here...
Just use your common sense and dont take the piss... what you've described is completely fine... I know how hard it is with toddlers... they do have a lot of energy. As long as you arent anywhere crowded its probably completely fine.

Yesterdayforgotten · 13/04/2020 12:06

I laugh when some people think it's fine to take a dog out multiple times day but not a toddler because 'its human' Confused

Rosebel · 13/04/2020 12:08

Of course it's breaking the rules. Once a day for exercise, what is thehe point of taking him out in the buggy? Is it to get him to sleep?

Alb1 · 13/04/2020 12:09

@yesterday it’s because the human will put pressure on the NHS if they catch the virus and end up in hospital, the dog will not. I don’t think the OP would be doing anything terrible here, but the logic of dogs being allowed more than 1 walk a day is because they can’t use the NHS anyway surly?

HoffiCoffi13 · 13/04/2020 12:11

So are you saying that non waking babies shouldn’t get to go out at all, as they’re not exercising?
Mine are 6, 4 and 1. We’ve just been for a walk, with the baby in his pushchair. Should I have left him at home with DH as he wasn’t technically exercising?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 13/04/2020 12:13

God there are so many anals on here

YANBU OP .

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 13/04/2020 12:13

Oops thought I was on AIBU but my response still stands

TiredofSM · 13/04/2020 12:14

I agree with @NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite
I just wouldn’t risk exposing my kids twice, but I recognise I’m extremely risk averse in my approach. My kids go out once a day first thing in the morning.

BreathlessCommotion · 13/04/2020 12:15

It's a virtually non-existent risk though? Do you drive them in a car anywhere? Cos that's much riskier.

missmouse101 · 13/04/2020 12:17

Why are people typing surly? That means not friendly. They must mean surely, surely?

Puddlelane123 · 13/04/2020 12:20

I think it is fine and I also have considered taking exercise twice a day - once for my toddlers and once for me. Ambling a short distance at toddler pace is not ‘exercise’ for me by any stretch, and I have therefore pondered whether I could go out for a walk or run later in the day by myself?

Yesterdayforgotten · 13/04/2020 12:31

@Alb1 that is hypocrital though isnt it? A human being will be walking the dog unless the dog can walk itself which I imagine not and the virus can travel in the dogs hair also putting others at risk also. I dont see a need for dogs to go out multiple times a day over a mother walking her toddler.

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/04/2020 12:31

Well only take toddler and baby with you in pushchair if absolutely necessary. Why can’t your toddler nap at home and DH watch the baby while you exercise?

So, you exercise alone
Then DH and toddler exercise together in afternoon.

Bubblebu · 13/04/2020 12:31

OMG - the worst thing you have done so far is to ask mumsnet what they think about (shock!) going out twice per day for a short bit of isolated exercise with your toddler.

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/04/2020 12:34

“to take a dog out multiple times day but not a toddler ”

Well, yes you have to take a dog out more than once in 24hrs (unless your dog can use an indoor toilet?). It’s animal cruelty to try and make it hold in all its bodily functions for so long. Humans only need to go out once because we have indoor toilet facilities.

Yesterdayforgotten · 13/04/2020 12:36

Only on MN do dogs need to be walked multiple times a day and toddlers once a day but only if said parent walks at the speed of light and doesn't have a pushchair Shock Confused

INeedNewShoes · 13/04/2020 12:37

@Puddlelane123

I have been wondering exactly the same. If I take DD out it absolutely is not exercise for me.

I'd quite like to take her out in the daytime for her exercise and then in the evening go out by myself for a bike ride so that I actually manage to keep fit but I've been dithering because I think it might break the rules.

Yesterdayforgotten · 13/04/2020 12:38

@PlanDeRaccordement we are talking about walking outside the home not stepping outside so your dog can take wee, I'm assuming you don't take our dog for a full on walk everytime it needs a wee.

Yesterdayforgotten · 13/04/2020 12:39

your dog* not your Smile
