Are you going to send your kids back in when they reopen?

Wondering if people will send them back.
As they think only 4-10% of population might have had it. And this peak was only 4w of school.
Im not shielding but isolating as much as possible because im
asthmatic.

I hope they say attendance isnt mandatory so people who need to/want to or are still WFH can keep them home if needed.

For those saying they won’t send there kids back and accusing some who would of being irresponsible etc . What if there is no vaccine for 2 years or more are you going to stay in lockdown until then ? And will you also not let your children go out or do sports etc ? Also governments do have to consider the economy as well , you have to have an economy to provide basic things . Government has to make decision what’s best for whole population and the economy it’s as simple as that .
In ideal work I would like to keep my family locked away until there are zero cases as would most but I think we will have to accept this is first wave and there will prob be others unfortunately until either a vaccine or immunity ( if that’s even possible as we don’t know if this case yet )

@unlimiteddilutingjuice I did wonder if some may find home schooling preferable after this and find it suits there dc better . For mine def not I'm not cut out to help with school work t li his level and he listens and works with teachers it's a battle for me to get same attention span, plus he misses school social side and all sports . But I can see for some it may mean they continue to home school as they enjoy or see it as more suitable

Random18 · 13/04/2020 17:55

Almost double 2 weeks though.

refraction · 13/04/2020 18:14

Almost double 2 weeks though.

There's the private sector also.

However I have no words for your comments. Petty at best.

Fruitsaladjelly · 13/04/2020 18:16

@Peppafrig No which is why I’m so sure the figures are miles off being accurate. I don’t know nationally but here unless you are going into icu or being discharged to a setting other than your home you don’t get tested, there just aren’t enough kits so they are used extremely sparingly. However it’s not just a cough that could be something else, I know many are asymptomatic or are displaying very inconclusive symptoms but there are also lots and lots of very clear cut cases not being tested, sometimes even being admitted to our local hospital, and it’s accepted by medical professionals that they are covid19 but they aren’t included in official figures. For the adults in our household it was very clearly covid 19 the children could have passed as having ‘a bit of a bug’ had we not all shown symptoms very close together.

BelleSausage · 13/04/2020 18:23

My question is: how do I know that we’ll be one of the lucky ones and have mild symptoms?

Or- can I be positive that one of us won’t be one of the unlucky sods who will die?

And I can’t. So I shan’t be sending DD to nursery and if I have to go to work in school again before a vaccine is developed then I’ll be expecting PPE and deep cleaning every night.

Random18 · 13/04/2020 18:34

Belle We don't know that.

And if you're concerned at the time speak to the union if you are in one.

But I suspect you may have to give up your job.

Again you have that choice.

Schools not opening until a vaccine takes away the choice from a lot of parents.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 13/04/2020 18:37

You dont. Just like I cant guarantee you wont die in a fatal car crash tomorrow or develop cancer, or get run over whilst crossing the road.
You cannot eliminate all forms of risk, its impossible. All you can do is be sensible, follow the guidelines and reduce your risk as much as possible.
Apart from that, living itself is a risk and we cannot lock ourselves away forever.

DICarter1 · 13/04/2020 18:39

I must say I laughed when I read the DfE guidelines about social distancing in school. Have they ever been into a school?

It’s a huge balancing act. Health, economy and education. I’d probably go with a cautious approach. And look at around June and go for a staggered start. But this is where the government really need big talks with the schools, they can’t just suddenly land it on them. I would worry about my kids going back as the two children with autism aren’t brilliant handwashers and one has huge levels of anxiety around school and change. I don’t envy the decision being made at top level right now. I’m wary of our government because of how they’ve acted (slow, lack of testing and lack of PPE) so I’ll be wary when they do start lifting the restrictions.

Collateralmadamage · 13/04/2020 18:41

@Random18

26th June- July 26th is 3 weeks! Doh!

Random18 · 13/04/2020 18:45

?

Sorry your post makes no sense

HoffiCoffi13 · 13/04/2020 18:47

My question is: how do I know that we’ll be one of the lucky ones and have mild symptoms?

You don’t. Just as you don’t know you won’t be in a car crash every time you get in a car (my brother died in a car crash when he was young, we never expected that to happen). Just as you don’t know you won’t contract sepsis, or meningitis, or any of the other illnesses that can be fatal (I have been in intensive care with sepsis, I never expected that to happen). Just as you don’t know if you’ll become ill with cancer, or a multitude of other illnesses.

We take a risk every time we leave the house. In fact we’re at risk in our houses.

Collateralmadamage · 13/04/2020 18:47

refraction 3 1/2 weeks earlier than us

You said 3.5 weeks.

Random18 · 13/04/2020 18:49

Collateral where does the date of 26th July come from?

Its not a date I have mentioned.

Peppafrig · 13/04/2020 18:49

@Smilethoyourheartisbreaking that is simply not true for all cancer patients. Many treatments are going ahead I know because I drive my dad to his radiotherapy treatment everyday Monday to Friday for the past two weeks and the next two. The hospital is still full of people getting radiotherapy and Chemo.

Collateralmadamage · 13/04/2020 18:54

My apologies I meant July 17th.

As in the end of term for English schools for pupils.

Many dont wipe well and this can be spread fecal oral too

If ever there was a reason to stop kids from going to school, it's this! 🤣

alloutoffucks · 13/04/2020 18:56

Kids are revolting and very few can be trusted to follow basic hygiene.

Not all English schools. We finish on the 10th.

Random18 · 13/04/2020 19:00

20th July is last day of term for my county council.

So 24 days ~ 3.5 weeks

Collateralmadamage · 13/04/2020 19:02

Guess they are all different which makes you look even more foolish for your pedantry. Grin

Random18 · 13/04/2020 19:08

How do you work that one out?

You have made yourself look stupid, if you want to put it that way by trying to be smart and getting it very wrong.

I didn't say all schools finished on the same day. I think in fact I used the word 'us'.

I also know some schools finish later than that.

For me I would rather my kids be in school that few weeks rather than saying its only 2 weeks after New York schools shut.

In fact if you want me to be even more pedantic (as you put it) its half the half term for my county.

Quartz2208 · 13/04/2020 19:14

My school was the 17th July but then had inset days - my County Council is the 22nd. Its entirely possible that they could ask schools to open until the 24th but I wouldnt expect anything else
