Is there anywhere still doing a take away coffee?

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not important. But I'd love one. Am near Glasgow.

I've just seen a nescafe dolce gusto mini me on Debenhams site half price at ÂŁ45, that seems decent. I wonder what they are like?

But a coffee machine that takes esse pods. We have a Smeg one, but you can buy cheaper ones. The cappuccino I make is better than Costa! It saves money in the long run. The Esse pods are cheap. I pay ÂŁ2.99 for 45 from Hema online.

For a really good espresso you need the kind of machine that costs ÂŁÂŁÂŁ and you find in Italian restaurants (who might just sell you a take out.

A second best is a bean to cup machine, but you need to buy coffee beans.

For cheaper options have a look at Tassimo and Nespresso, | have a Bosch tassimo machine, part of my reasoning was that one of the few coffees I find palatable is costa and you can get costa pods.

Recycling the pods is a bit hit and miss.

If you just want a filter coffee you can get he drip filter machines for about ÂŁ10, Argos put one on offer for ÂŁ5 every so often. If you go down this route get one with a reusable filter, otherwise you will be buying filter papers.

Once I got my machine I ordered a mixed selection of pods from Amazon to see which I liked.

I have a 3 monthly delivery from Amazon of costa americano which is a cheaper way to buy the pods.

Argos have some tassimo machines for just under ÂŁ30.00, ta pack of pods is about ÂŁ5 but tassimo have some offer where you can get ÂŁ20 coffee for free.

I really thought mine would only be used by guests, but I have been converted.

I have my bialetti moka and Illy coffee - and wouldn’t be without it. Friend have these fancy tassimo machines - but I prefer my coffee.

DD1 has learnt how to work our coffee machine - it's like living with a latte obsessed Talkie Toaster at the moment.

Costa machines the best option I've found - local garage is making people use disposable gloves to operate it so it's as OK as I'm going to get right now I figure. Local garage has also constructed some impressive social distancing funnelling system with walls made of multipacks of beer as well.

I'm in London, so I can't answer your original question but we also miss takeaway coffee. We bought a second hand dolce gusto jovia a short while ago and are very much appreciating it right now! Obviously it's not the same as having a coffee made for you by a barista but it's nice enough. We switch the machine on after lunch and have a cup.

Aren’t you either shielding or self isolating though @ssd?

No. But I'm avoiding the shops at all costs.

I wouldn't bother with the machines—they still don't replicate the barista experience. Get a Bodum, fresh whole beans and a grinder, and, most importantly, cream (not milk!).

We got a gaggia classic from eBay a few years ago for ÂŁ40. After lots of rescaling of the main bit and also replacing the milk frother thingy it has been going strong for years and frankly it has been a life saver during this lockdown. DH made me a coffee this morning that was pretty much on par with the ones you get from a decent independent coffee shop.
We also have a nespresso machine but it creates too much waste and is currently sitting in the cupboard.

That was meant to say de-scaling, bloody auto correct!

Whole beans and a grinder, definitely. There are coffee merchants online eg

thecoffeehopper.com

They sell kit too...
An aeropress is better than a cafetière, less messy to get rid of the grounds too. If you really want a cafetière save yourself money by getting a stainless steel one not glass. They're buggers for getting broken.
Milk v cream is a matter of preference; whole not skimmed for sure.

I bought a moka pot last year and haven’t looked back since! I also love my French Press. I drink black coffee though - but DP bought himself a milk frother and uses that for cappuccinos etc. We either buy ground coffee, or just roasted beans and grind them ourselves (we have a cheap hand grinder, but at least means we can grind to different coarseness).
Relatively small outlay, and has saved a fortune in takeaway coffees.

That's the thing I'm missing most ATM. A Costa Cappuccino

Yes I realise I'll be flamed for wanting something so frivolous
