Is there anywhere still doing a take away coffee?

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not important. But I'd love one. Am near Glasgow.

You can get a clever dripper or an aeropress for £20. Lots of good small coffee roasters still open for online orders of coffee and/or equipment. Probably the best combo to make decent coffee at home on a budget.

For a coffee shop flat white you would probably need to spend hundreds of pounds on a bean to cup machine, although some of the pod machines like Dolce Gusto produce a nice enough cup of espresso style coffee and you don't need to use Nescafé pods, Lidl and Aldi do pods and some small coffee roasters do pods now too.

For the odd frothy coffee I'd recommend the d'longhi nescafe dolce gusto

Costa in my hospital is open (there were many happy dances at work, when we found out it had reopened), its take away only and very few cakes.
But I assume you don't want to pop into your local hospital for a take away coffee 0:)

Grumpy was it expensive at the time? Where is it from?

I'd love a coffee machine. At the moment I hand-grind beans and use a french press. I definitely don't want anything that uses pods or anything massive.

I stopped bothering with take-away coffee a while back but it's nice to have one made with proper velvety milk now and again.

OP alot of small, independent cafes have stayed open where I am. Strictly on a one-in, one-out or phone and collect basis. Have you anything like that near you?

I’m in Sheffield and bought a takeaway coffee from a cafe that was still open (seems to be the only one though for miles). Bit far for you though OP!

I got an email from Caffe Concerto in Kensington saying that they were open for takeaway

Its the small things we miss the most eh!. I just went out for the first time in a week & went to get a Starbucks drive thru. So good, home again for another week.

My local garage has a Costa machine.
I'm a keyworker and also caring for (just food shopping and delivering) for my shielding parents (both have cancer and on chemo).

Last week I needed to get petrol. As a reward to myself for getting a few weeks worth rather than a weeks worth as usual to prevent inessential trips .......

I also treated myself to a take out costa. My word - costa has never tasted so good Grin

It's funny that I miss it, I'm not an actual coffee drinker, I'd never buy a jar of nescafe, I drink tea usually, but it's the one a week nice coffee I'm missing, that and the chat with a pal that always comes with it.

@roarfeckingroar. Really? I'm surprised they're still open, there's nothing open around here. Bar the delivery takeaways (pizza/Indian/Chinese).

@ssd. As I said earlier,I have a Philips Senseo, it takes pads, not pods so it's pretty environmentally friendly without the fuss and mess if using ground coffee. I used to just put a half cup of milk into the microwave, heat it up (I liked it boiling) then tip the coffee in. It's an easy/no fuss machine. Plus it's only the size of a kettle.

Now I make a double cup & just out a bit if cream in it.

@BulbTherapy
It's a La Pavoni machine - and yes it was expensive even over 20 years ago - but they last for ever and the coffee is brilliant.
And it's the best looking home coffee machine in the world Grin

The cafe at the top of my street closed for two weeks, but reopened for takeaway coffees, sandwiches and cakes a few days ago. We did get a coffee, just to be friendly and support them. Inner London.

I haven't found any and I'm gasping. Even the costa machine at the shop is turned off which I think is a bit silly, as if you're there for essentials anyway why is a coffee not allowed?

Or when I'm on my way into work id love a coffee. Likewise when on the way home from work. Or after going to the shop following a long walk on a hot day for a salted caramel iced latte. Mmm

Although if anyone fancies a boozy coffee the baileys iced lattes are divine. I must stoxk up!

Amelie I do exactly the same (though my machine is Tassimo by Bosch) - heat milk in microwave, put that cup under the machine tap and then do the short cup option (more intense) using a pod.
Nice enough - I'm overjoyed that I had the machine for a while , bought n promo and never used before.
It doesn't make the barista velvery milk, as you said, though! It's good for sure but not a blissful cup of coffee that you can get in some places.

roar says loads of restaurants do tae away coffees, but ime the restaurant flat whites aer just never good, nor from most of the chain cafes.
I like Costa's cortado which is like and it's y regular coffee, it's like a mini flat white, but their FW is way to big and proprtion is wrong. For FW I go to indie cafes and am fussy as to which - if yo upa a lot it needs to be perfect.

I’m missing my Harris & Hoole coffee I used to get when I did a Tesco Shop. Best latte I’ve ever tasted! I do have a Nespresso Vertuo machine and you can get a pretty decent coffee from that. I have just had a new Barrista’s choice ‘Caramel cookie’ pod which is lush! I do the same as others in that I heat up a little bit of cream in the microwave so it’s hot and pour in my cup before the coffee and you get a decent bit of creaming on your coffee. Not quite but almost as good as the real thing.

It did occur to me that a seafood takeaway still open on the seafront would do takeout coffee as they did before, but haven't investigated yet.

Doesn't help OP though as she's near Glasgow.

Happy Easter anyway people :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one!!
I thought when I wrote this I would get pummelled by others, as obviously a cappuccino isn't an essential item, to me it's a luxury and a little bit of the past when life was normal!!
I'm glad others agree.
Still don't know if I want to buy a machine, funds are tight here, but they always were. As I said, I spend about £3 a week on coffee, maybe £6 if I'm going mad Smile
