Absolutely no chance that schools will back properly full time this year.

Can’t see it, not without a vaccine or a cure.

There’s no exit strategy for lockdown. Not a criticism of anyone in particular, but I think it’s unlikely that normal school will resume within 12 months.

OP posts:
Pixxie7 · 11/04/2020 03:42

There is talk of the schools being the first to return to normal. However there is no plan as to when.

Coyoacan · 11/04/2020 04:47

There likely is an exit strategy, or at least the bare bones of one, our government will be watching other countries who get there first closely also

I'm a bit surprised by this idea. Yes, there are still quite a few variables, such as whether or not a good cure will be found or how soon a good antibody test will be available, but otherwise epidemiologists have been preparing for this stuff for years.

The Americans claim that an antibody test will be available very soon.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 11/04/2020 04:53

No point in speculating IMO as at the moment there are so many possible different feasible answers.
We'll know more in due course, so let's just wait and see.

SouthsideOwl · 11/04/2020 11:31

Yeah whatever OP.
You can please anyone, but you can't please everyone.

If nature had its way, all the old, vulnerable, immune suppressed young and old would be goners already either via this virus or another way.

The world/gov is trying to stop that as much as possible but it's not sustainable.

Would love to see your Cobra notes..

Teabaseddiet · 11/04/2020 16:46

@SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing - he reaches compulsory school age before September so can't be held back for that reason. It's also older siblings, if they go to school and catch it/become carriers and bring it home. It's a scary time for us.

Greydove28 · 11/04/2020 17:19

@mnhq can you move this to the corona virus chat room pls? So annoying the aibu is still clogged with virus related threads

happyandsingle · 11/04/2020 17:23

When do you think nurseries will open? The same time as schools or before/after?

TSSDNCOP · 11/04/2020 17:34

I have three sets of neighbours that, as I write, are breaking the requirement to not have non-household members in their homes.

That's a dentist, an electrician and a retired couple. Generally all right-on Thursday night clappers and Rainbow displayers gaily thinking it's everyone else that has to do the heavy lifting.

This morning at the supermarket a family of four were walking around together. Other customers were hurling themselves out of the way. The Manager told me "we have been given no guidelines how many people are allowed in together".

We may as well go back to school tomorrow because all the time there's a lack of cooperation it dilutes the effort of those that are.

CaroleFuckinBaskin · 11/04/2020 17:38

Anything beyond that is wild guesswork and tbh, just bullshit.

This.

Getting sick of people pulling any old shite out if their arse...

mrsBtheparker · 11/04/2020 17:43

Whenever the schools return the impact of this year will be felt for years.

Butterymuffin · 11/04/2020 17:45

Ah, another of these school threads where people state their personal view as if it's certified fact.

Appuskidu · 11/04/2020 17:46

www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/health-52183295

This suggests schools will be one of the last things to reopen as the risk of spreading when they do, is ‘substantial’.

Ethelfleda · 11/04/2020 18:10

The lifting of any aspect of lockdown will need to be based on scientific and empirical evidence. This evidence just does not exist yet, and it’s unlikely too for a few more weeks yet.
So anyone’s guess as to when schools might go back is as valid as another’s. There is literally no point in speculating until we know more.

Nousernameforme · 11/04/2020 18:14

FGS opinions aren't facts. I could equally say
Absolutely every chance that schools will be back after may half term.
Doesn't make me right.
People me included will click on the thread thinking something official has been said and it's nothing new

LavenderLilacTree · 11/04/2020 18:26

I think they will go back before the end of this academic year. Teachers may well get very ill as a result though Sad
Because children are a very low risk group for COVID-19 deaths, and many vulnerable children are suffering as a result of their closure, plus all the working parents struggling with home-schooling - I think they will open quite early compared to other restrictions being lifted.
I am a TA by the way.

Matildathehun77 · 11/04/2020 18:59

*This is the 947th thread today speculating about when schools will re-open.

It's almost as if nobody has the foggiest and we should probably just see how it pans out...*

Oh gosh yes this!! We don't know, we only have access to snippets of facts that the media feeds us, we all have opinions and guesses but that's all they are at this point. As hard as it is to not have a definitive answer, we really do just have to wait and see.

shinyredbus · 11/04/2020 19:03

You don’t know that. Nobody does. Hysteria will
Get us nowhere fast.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 11/04/2020 19:06

I'm sorry OP but this is just your opinion. Its not fact. Its your opinion-
Thats it. Opinions are like assholes- everyone has one!
So, whilst you are perfectly entitled to it, it doesnt mean anyone has to agree with it or listen to it and I am doing neither I'm afraid to say.

Noone knows when schools are going back.

Crownofthorns · 12/04/2020 18:51

Nobody knows when the schools will go back. However, my personal opinion is that they will return in May, possibly after half-term which would take us to late May anyway.

wanttoruntothemoon · 12/04/2020 19:00

Schools will be back this year. 🙄 I don't understand why people say otherwise.
Nobody knows exactly when but they will. Do you really want your kids to go to school over the summer holiday?
