My neighbours are having a birthday party

It's been going on for hours with loud music in the garden and they've just had a jolly singing session of happy birthday and they are starting to spill out onto the street. My other neighbours next door but one
the other side appear to be having a hot tub party. Report or mind my own business apart from the fact that I feel like I'm actually at the party with my windows open Hmm

101 is non-emergency, not ‘send someone later’. It means not life or death.

shilohbear · 10/04/2020 22:38

I'm just trying to look online and see if my area have set up anything to be able to support this kind of thing.

EmpressSuiko · 10/04/2020 22:39

@shilohbear just call 101. They’ll send someone round.

HeIenaDove · 10/04/2020 22:45

OP thats not what i meant. Many are in low paid jobs and still wouldnt be able to afford a hot tub And i cant see many HAs allowing one to be installed.

shilohbear · 10/04/2020 22:49

Helena my whole street is housing association and at least 2 of my neighbours have them or have had them. I know because my fence had to come down to transport my next door neighbours through as I'm on the end of the row. I suppose they get them on finance maybe, I've never asked how they fund them. I don't think the housing association really cares as long as you are not annoying neighbours or damaging property. Anyway I'm off to see what 101 say.

If that's true, I'd totally want to report.

It's my birthday this weekend as well.
Am I inviting people round, partying etc?
No, I'm not.
I'm at the peace with the fact that takeaway seems to be the way to go.

It certainly sounds like they have guests

"Sounds like* they have guests? So you're not even sure?
As if they're just out there as a loud family that's OK.
Just us.
(Assuming any local takeaways are still open lol)
If not I'm up for lots of wine and trying to replicate food via a fakeaway and 80s/90s choons Grin

A hot tub party? On a council estate? Those things are expensive
What? People on council estates can't afford things? What's that all about lol unless you're assuming that if you live on one you must be on benefits and can't afford things as fancy as hot tubs

HeIenaDove · 10/04/2020 23:12

Wotcha Im aware of that. More than a lot of people on this site But there has been lots of posts about second home owners flouting rules and then all of a sudden this thread appears.

PomBearsyummy · 10/04/2020 23:16

"What? People on council estates can't afford things? What's that all about lol unless you're assuming that if you live on one you must be on benefits and can't afford things as fancy as hot tubs"

Its not unreasonable to imply people on counil estates are usually towards the lower end of the income spectrum.

june2007 · 10/04/2020 23:22

Unless you are def sure they have guests then yabu to report.

Notcontent · 10/04/2020 23:26

That kind of thing makes me so angry. It’s a sign of low intelligence and/or extreme arrogance.

Theukisgreatt · 10/04/2020 23:26

Council housing is for those who need it, so not unreasonable to think someone with a hot tub (big unnecessary expense) might be able fund their own private rental.

LittleLittleLittle · 10/04/2020 23:27

If they still having a party now they are a noise nuisance so see if you can report them to your local council as well.

perniciousdot · 10/04/2020 23:29

Be angry at the arrogant people. But the people who are lower intelligence? They don't deserve the anger.

LittleLittleLittle · 10/04/2020 23:30

@Theukisgreatt that's not how council housing works. Some people would have inherited tenancies from a deceased spouse/parent, while others are on old tenancies but have ended up doing well in life.

HeIenaDove · 10/04/2020 23:30

@Theukisgreatt Thats down to residulisation. Council housing was meant to be for anyone who wanted it.

june2007 · 10/04/2020 23:32

No Council Housing is for those that need it. I live on the edge of a council estate but my house is mine.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 10/04/2020 23:32

There are online reporting systems for this purpose.

Yester · 10/04/2020 23:34

You realise that most of the council housing has been sold off into private ownership!

Theukisgreatt · 10/04/2020 23:35

Ok, to be fair I don't know anyone who lives in a council house, I thought the point was they were for those who couldn't afford private rent.

HeIenaDove · 10/04/2020 23:43

And remember many of the key workers saving our butts will be living in social housing.

BilboBercow · 10/04/2020 23:49

I don't know anyone who lives in a council house
Really? Anyone is eligible to apply for council housing. Not everyone wants to or can for various reasons buy. Some people like to have a secure tenancy. There are plenty of two parent, working families with trades etc who have council houses.
You can buy an inflatable hot tub for a few hundred quid.

Theukisgreatt · 11/04/2020 00:15

@BilboBercow I dont dispute that, just don't know them myself.

LittleLittleLittle · 11/04/2020 00:19

@june2007 I know a couple of rich older people who when they were newly married as young adults lived in council housing.

Before council housing was sold of by Thatcher anyone could apply to have a council house and actually get it. This meant estates were more mixed.

Added to that in areas like London you can find streets of old housing that the council took on as council housing. Loads were then sold off under RTB in the 1980s. Lots of buyers of these houses/flats are then surprised to find their neighbours are still council tenants.

converseandjeans · 11/04/2020 00:44

Take a video or photo as proof.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 11/04/2020 00:50

Really? People can and do buy ex council houses outright. Or get a mortgage on them.
It's not all 80s pre Thatchers now Confused
