You can legally sunbathe in your private garden all day long. But some people don't have gardens.

There are people complaining on social media to the police about people sunbathing on municipal land. Not large numbers of people, literally two people enjoying the sunshine and minding their own business. There are people replying that they will go out and assault them, etc.

There is in fact no law against sunbathing. It just seems to be bringing out the neighbourhood arseholes to try to enforce non-existent rules. Nobody is going to die because someone went out to the shop and decided to stop to sunbathe on a 16 acre meadow on the way home. Nobody. The 'but 1000 people died today' stuff is not related to that. Keep to your own household, don't mix with other people, don't leave home without a reasonable excuse.

On Friday, I was stood outside Asda waiting to go in for about 30 mins in the socially distanced queue 2m apart from others. The sun was out, so technically I was sunbathing!

That's the thing here. If I had stood in my local park with a trolley for half an hour in the sun there would gave been nobody within about 50 meters of me, but apparently that is far worse!

It is social contact and poor hygiene that spreads this, not sunbathing alone in an empty field which you have chosen because it was quiet. If it was a picnic with extended family and friends that is different.

I'm one of those people living in a flat with two kids. If we had a garden, we may not even leave the house at all on some days, but if I am taking my kids out for a walk on the beach and they want to dip their toes in the sea or play in the sand for 5 mins, if nobody is about I will let them.

Thankfully, aside from a brawl between a drunk and some teenagers, everyone I have encountered have been really sensible. If you look on social media, you will just see picture of people being stupid, having parties etc. If people on SM accept that as what everyone is doing outside and think nobody is listening to the guidelines, they are just as stupid as those people who are violating the rules are.

People who have slight disabilities, are recovering from injuries, are older, are struggling with morning sickness or vertigo or whatever, may want and need to exercise and get exposed to daylight, but may need to sit down, stop and rest sometimes. Some common sense and humanity is required here.

I've not read the whole thread and I totally agree op.
It's mindless and senseless.

When I've see police approaching a loan couple it's so sad. Break up large groups yes, but a lone couple getting some sun?
Madness.
