To my 80 year old parent? I have no other reason to make this journey as it's not on the way to the shops or my place of work but I thought it would cheer them up. I'm taking flowers too. It is Easter after all!

You are allowed to travel to deliver essentials to elderly and vulnerable relatives, if you were to take some essentials like bread and milk there would be no harm in taking an Easter egg and flowers with you as well.

I thought ahead and am getting one delivered to my mum.
So first you go shopping for the non essential egg,then you make a non essential journey to deliver it.
Do you still need this question answering or will you go ahead regardless anyway?

I came on to say "no of course you bloody can't!" but I see you know that! Your relative is an idiot!

I ordered mine online as soon as I realised Easter would be cancelled. So my elderly mum and my 2 adult daughters and their partners have all ready received theirs.

I really don't see that it's any different at all to buying one online and having it delivered.

I'm planning the same tbh, as per PP, I think it's better that I deliver it than a delivery company with many more contacts. I'm taking bread milk and pasta too.

I do get you OP ,now my brain has been sorted.

Drop it off when you're taking other essentials. Don't make a special journey. And maintain distance obvs.

Another relative thinks 3 bottles of gin is an essential shop. Just gin, nothing else. With a shielded spouse and high risk themselves.
They'll all be completing if lockdown is tightened or extended.

In Ireland it has been specified that delivering Easter eggs is not an essential journey.

I went by my mums (empty) house, and got a load of summer clothes to take to my mum at her care home yesterday. I also went out to collect some food, and did a round trip of about 20 miles. I waited on the doorstep, and had a chat with the receptionist, and was passed a card and present for my DD's birthday. I am obviously an very, very, bad person, NOT.

I was tempted to do this for my grandchildren. And then I decided that if everyone did the same that it would lead to lots of unnecessary journeys. They'll get eggs from their parents and I'll make it up to them afterwards.

@corabel that's exactly what my mum is doing. My dc have got an egg from me as I was very lucky to be able to order them with my tesco shopping. Mum is going to get them something with the next delivery. Ds at 5 understands the rules so it baffles me as to why people who are older can't.
