Release young adults from lockdown first

I think it a good idea - there's been a paper by the University of Warwick.
It's hardest for them and their risk is low.
I'd happily stay in lockdown longer for my children of that age to be "set free"

Its harder because your brain chemistry is still developing until age 30. That has been shown in studies. So while they may be more resilient it could also harm development in irreversible ways.

Long term impact - higher unemployment among young people, poorer mental health outcomes.

It has been shown, as an aside, that being unemployed for just a few months can impact you for up to 2 years, in terms of mental health and performance at work, and longer term unemployed people may never reach same level when back in work as someone who was never unemployed.

Younger people need investment because they keep society going. They are the junior staff members in so many places keeping the wheels turning.

Haha @esjee exactly! We are the generation that have struggled to get on the housing ladder, been hit with economical crisis as you say and working hard for everything... but screw it as long as the 20 year old next door gets to see her boyfriend Shock Hmm

nellythenarwhal · 09/04/2020 11:26

I'm not convinced that 20-30 year olds have it hardest (and it's not because my dc1 is 19)

I think people who live alone or have no private outside space like a garden are a lot worse off the general public tbh. Not to mention key workers obviously- maybe they should be the first out of lockdown because they are most lucky to have come in contact with it?

SleepingStandingUp · 09/04/2020 11:27

Its harder because your brain chemistry is still developing until age 30 so let's reinstate exams for September and let the 15's and over out, they can be taught by the under 30s who now have first dive on any job they want. We can instigate several years of lockdown with you having to go into lockdown on your 30th birthday and giving up your job to coming o f age. When a vaccine is fondant available we can start vaccinate everyone as they hit 30 as well as vaccinating one year age grotto from 30+

I think I just wrote my n next dystopian novel

Mittens030869 · 09/04/2020 11:27

I'm more concerned about the women stuck at home 24/7 with abusive partners.

^This, it's very worrying. It's also very damaging for DC stuck at home in that situation as well. School would have been their safe place.

SpillTheTea · 09/04/2020 11:28

Why the special treatment? It's hard on everyone, age is only one factor.

bruffin · 09/04/2020 11:29

I didnt say it was hitting them hardestConfused I said harder which meant some will be hit harder and some less.

Haha @esjee exactly! We are the generation that have struggled to get on the housing ladder, been hit with economical crisis as you say and working hard for everything... but screw it as long as the 20 year old next door gets to see her boyfriend-

My ds was in the middle of buying his first house as well as not seeing his gf.

PicsInRed · 09/04/2020 11:29

Like Logan's Run isn't it? 🤣

mencken · 09/04/2020 11:32

everyone is being financially damaged and losing time that we won't get back. Is this a ploy to reduce Scrooge's 'surplus population' by letting the age group concerned either get CV or give it to lots of others?

touchtheceiling · 09/04/2020 11:36

I read this - the argument was to 'release' 20-30 year olds who don't live with parents or anyone under than that age bracket. Everyone under 30 who lives with people older than would have to stay indoors.

Yesterdayforgotten · 09/04/2020 11:45

'My ds was in the middle of buying his first house as well as not seeing his gf.'

It is good he is getting om the house ladder if he is only 20!

Baaaahhhhh · 09/04/2020 11:50

All the "young" people we know are out there working already. 17+ working in supermarkets, volunteering etc. So perhaps it will not make much difference anyway.

SleepingStandingUp · 09/04/2020 11:57

Like Logan's Run isn't it? 🤣 Sshhhhhhh 😂😂🏃 and if you know the movie, you're too old to be released

My ds was in the middle of buying his first house as well as not seeing his gf.' that isn't the preserve of the under 3ps tho is it. And arguably if he's about to buy his first house at under 30 he's in a less precarious position than someoen losing their job who rents so leave him at home with his savings, there will be other houses and Skype sex reduces the risk of unplanned pregnancy

bruffin · 09/04/2020 11:59

It is good he is getting om the house ladder if he is only 20!
DS and gf are 24 but with good jobs.

I thought risk didn't increase significantly until 50.

The risk of transmitting to other people is the same whatever the age. Or doesn't that matter to you?

esjee · 09/04/2020 12:07

@bruffin. I'm sure its shit for your DS as it is for literally almost the whole population right now! Its not a competition that your DS is somehow winning because he's still in his 20s.

bruffin · 09/04/2020 12:08

I never said that @esjee Confused you read what you want to read , really unpleasant

Ferfooksek · 09/04/2020 12:09

Stupidest idea I’ve heard in a long time. They don’t have it harder.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/04/2020 12:10

'The risk of transmitting to other people is the same whatever the age. Or doesn't that matter to you?'

Do we know that?
I thought the assumption was still that less severe cases shed less virus which means it's not the same. But knowledge is moving fast so interested to be pointed to research showing otherwise.

turquoisedoor · 09/04/2020 12:10

If that happened I feel very sorry for 20 to 30 years old with underlying conditions. Particularly anyone as yet undiagnosed.

I read yesterday another young nurse has sadly died. She was 29.

Looneytune253 · 09/04/2020 12:12

I think this is the daftest idea I've seen so far. From what I've seen the 20-30 year olds are the ones most likely to be wandering around with no symptoms but have the virus. Surely that's an awful way to spread the virus massively?

I'm 48 and I haven't screwed anyone over thank you very much. I haven't seen my partner in in weeks. That argument is shit.

turquoisedoor · 09/04/2020 12:14

Wrong thread, sorry. I've reported it.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 09/04/2020 12:14

So they can't die from the virus or vector it to others Hmm? Stupid idea. It's hard on everyone.
