What on Earth is up with everyone? Is isolation making people crazy?

I went for a walk with my baby and there was a guy with his ten year old son both walking towards us from the opposite direction. I veered to the right so he can have the left hand side of the path but instead he charged at me and stood right in front of my pram with his arms spread out almost challenging me to do something... then he walked off. Once the bizarreness of it all wore off I've just realised what an imbecile he is!

I'm out the other side (sort of, I'm still massively out of breath on exertion). On the one occasion I've left the house recently (well, well over the isolation period), there were a couple of young men behind me who seemed to be finding it amusing to try and get as close as possible to me.

That backfired. As the 'leader' came up alongside, presumably to fake cough over me or something that pleased his tiny male ego. I was caught out by a photic sneeze and a cough. He practically fell off the pavement into the road.

I'm now tempted to cough any time somebody invades my space if I ever leave the house again.

Mind you, after the number of years I spent kickboxing training, somebody leaping out at me in a supermarket is likely to get smacked upside the head with a tin of chickpeas before my non-lizard brain registers somebody's just jumped out at me.

A deadpan 'I've already had it' is the most likely response such fools will receive in the wild. I've not got the lung capacity to run away from them at the moment, so won't be doing any deliberate coughing over anybody.

Many years ago I was walking home on a quiet road, sun setting and a car suddenly pulled off the road onto the pavement, four men inside were staring and laughing at me. I took a few steps back and was prepared to run, but the car pulled back onto the road and they drove off. It's a power trip that they will justify as "a joke".

Afterwards I wanted to have reacted or at least have shouted something, but I was terrified. All I could do was wish them bad luck. Now I realise that they are not worth any of my time and I have only remembered the situation as yours reminded me of it OP. Vent here, know you did nothing wrong and then try to let it go.

what an absolute cunt

I would have gone absolutely mental at him

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/04/2020 16:38

How can you prove she wasn't on her way to work with a new uniform on?

On the way there , way home doesn't matter .
Especially now . Who knows what you could be picking up and transferring either to the patients or to the shoppers or anyone else you contact .

It is basic Infection Control and shouldn't be overlooked

Roostersmum2 · 06/04/2020 16:41

People have lost the plot.

I was verbally abused and torn to shreds by some idiot with a dog, because I stopped to let them pass my pram.

Sunshineeeee · 06/04/2020 16:44

@ChardonnaysPetDragon I don't think so as he was walking dead bang in the middle of the path. Everyone else was either going right of him or left. (depending which side they were on.) I should have added it's a massive cycle path we were on. Easily a few metres wide. He didn't go up to anyone else but me however. Might have been the pram that got him brave. Idiot.

Someone had a go at me yesterday, because I had to step to the right to avoid being hit by a cyclist.

People can be very rude these day.

theschoolonthehill · 06/04/2020 16:53

a man jumped out and pretended to sneeze on me...then burst out laughing

“oh I don’t think you can make jokes like that anymore”

If he had done that in Ireland, he would have been arrested and given a court appearance.

It's making people mad I tell you...

Whataroyalannoyance · 06/04/2020 17:20

I was waking to the pharmacy today along narrow pavement. 2 men, not together walking towards me, the 2nd man decided that the 1st man wasn't going fast enough so decided to cross to the other pavement. meaning i couldn't cross to keep 2 meters on either side of the road. I then had to walk down the middle of the road. All because he couldn't just wait.

Soubriquet · 06/04/2020 17:32

Twats will be twats

It’s just now they have more of a reason to do it as it’s easier to scare people

KittyLane1 · 06/04/2020 17:37

Just had to move onto the road to get past a young man who had decided to stand right smack bang in the middle of the only path, forcing everyone who is taking it seriously to move onto the road.
He was just stood there, not moving, arms crossed. I guess it made him feel powerful, bless.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 06/04/2020 17:38

I saw an old film years ago where some men were harassing a woman as she walked down the street. It was an American film. They kept on at her and eventually got close enough to possibly grab hold of her when she pulled a tiny pistol out of her handbag and shot one of them in his kneecap. I always remembered it and wished I could do it. Grin

Sunshineeeee · 06/04/2020 17:49

Wow this seems to be a thing. Idiot galore.

TheStarryNight · 06/04/2020 18:00

There are some right nutters about. Like that jogger who pushed a woman in front of a bus on Putney Bridge a couple of years ago. Beggars belief.

LilacTree1 · 06/04/2020 18:23

Adorabelle sounds brilliant!

Corna · 07/04/2020 22:52

It is like Patriarchy chicken but with added virus loading. People can be absolute pricks, it's just that the virus now has brought out an extra layer of shittyness.

redcarbluecar · 07/04/2020 22:57

As PP have said - if anyone deliberately gets in my way or if a group of people won't move, I'd be tempted to cough as I walked past them. Probably wouldn't do it though .

Recoverandthrive · 08/04/2020 00:26

I find this thread shocking, can't believe so many disgraceful people are out there devoid of any decent humanity.

Winterwoollies · 08/04/2020 11:22

This is bringing out the psychopath in some people; trying to frighten others (including people with babies and children?!) because they’re so arrogant as to think it’s all nonsense and for some weird reason people adhering to the government advice gives them rage.
