Has ANYONE had a refund for their TUI cancelled holiday?

I was due to be on the plane right now and despite them saying on their phone line messages, that they were proactively contacting people who were due to fly imminently, we've had no phone call.
And if you call their line you get put on hold for well over an hour and no answer.

Another update. My friend has now received the full refund with the remaining being paid back on to his credit card this morning. It looks like time has probably run out for TUI and the best they can do is repay what has been agreed and credit note everyone else, which both will apply to me with the 2 holidays ( Presumably an August holiday will not be happening ). Not sure about anyone else and I haven't got mine back but he is the 1st I have heard of to be refunded.

ifonly4 · 21/04/2020 08:31

Not TUI, but we were booked direct with Easyjet, so no middle man. It's taken five weeks to get our refund, but well worth the wait. The only problem it's been refunded to our credit card and there's nothing we can spend it on at the momentSmile.

Fleurchamp · 21/04/2020 09:28

@ifonly4 won't the card company pay it into your bank account? I hope ours will! I hadn't thought of that

hollytom · 21/04/2020 13:09

Is there any way of contacting them as the two numbers I have tried just say office is closed. It’s now over 4 weeks since I received my email saying I would get a refund.

BulkyFlower · 21/04/2020 15:10

Don't know. I cannot contact them either. I also got an email on 13 March saying I would have refund in 3-5 days but nothing has gone in my bank. They have not contacted me since, nothing

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/04/2020 01:13

0800 072 3829 was the (free) phone number they originally gave me in the text I got confirming that my holiday was cancelled and that they'd get back to me. Which they didn't as detailed above.

I have an email that says it confirms refund, but doesn't say cash refund. It was sent before they changed their terms and conditions, and I have heard people say that if you were offered a refund before they changed their terms they will still be doing that - but I'd like to find where that is officially written as I haven't yet.
And there's no time scale on the letter - not that it matters if they've told other people 4 weeks and then not made that.

An update just had an email from them confirming the refunds broken down into payments and cards. So hopefully it seems to be going through fingers crossed

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/04/2020 22:47

That's good news, Holly.

Still no refund here. Cancelled on the 20th March should of departed 2nd April. Full refund agreed and invoice of amount refunded received but still no money. Spoken to numerous staff and told something different by each one. Other than invoice I have not been contacted by them, it’s been shockingly bad despite “these unprecedented times” as quoted by every staff member I have spoken too.

Fleurchamp · 23/04/2020 14:42

I caved and called again today, got through surprisingly quickly and was basically fobbed off again.... refund should be with me by 1st May apparently.
I am so tired to the chasing and checking! However, there are a few reports on Twitter that people are getting their money back but annoyingly it is for people with travel dates after mine.

hollytom · 24/04/2020 08:51

Update the money is in my account today so hopefully you will all get yours soon. I was a bit concerned as it was refunded to my credit card but I rang the cc and they are transferring it to my ban account.

InterviewTerminated · 24/04/2020 21:57

Online booking with Tui. I called them midweek on our departure date and have received a full refund back onto my payment card today.

Starlightstarbright1 · 24/04/2020 22:10

Well glad it looks like refunds are going through.

My holiday is 20 th May. Hotel has announced it will remain closed to end of May but guess I am in a long queue

Fleurchamp · 25/04/2020 14:18

@InterviewTerminated that's great, when were you due to travel?

InterviewTerminated · 25/04/2020 15:04

@Fleurchamp we should have gone on holiday earlier this week.

Fleurchamp · 25/04/2020 15:07

@Interviewterminated thanks - glad you got your refund but that is soooooo annoying for those of us who have been waiting for weeks 😩

InterviewTerminated · 25/04/2020 22:19

@Fleurchamp I can understand how frustrating it must be. After reading about the problems people are having on Tui's Facebook and Twitter page, I didn't think I would get anywhere with them. I mainly rang so I had a record of trying to get a refund for insurance or credit card chargeback purposes if needed.

I do think I was genuinely lucky in that my call was answered by someone who was super helpful. The holiday we booked was quite specialist and there is no real alternative available, so that may have helped also.

I really hope that you get your money back soon.

Fleurchamp · 28/04/2020 07:12

My bank is now saying we cannot use the s.75 consumer credit act provisions because Tui have not refused to refund us.... my argument is after waiting 5 weeks, that is pretty much a refusal. Anyone else had this?
I am giving Tui until Friday and then Monday I start the dispute with our card provider.
If all else fails I suppose I will have to start a small claim in the court (but £410 for the fee!).
What hassle.

Sicario · 28/04/2020 07:31

The only time I ever had dealings with TUI, I had to sue them to get my money back.

Suing through the small claims court is very simple and can be done online. I got my money.

Trying to get money out of TUI is like trying to get blood from a stone.

Sicario · 28/04/2020 07:31

Also if you sue, you add the court fee to the amount you are suing for, so you will get it all back.

Fleurchamp · 28/04/2020 07:35

@Sicario how awful!
I am going to give them until Friday, try my credit card company and then go for a small claim. Fortunately, I am a solicitor (but not a litigator) so I can ask colleagues for help. I believe I would also get interest on the sum claimed too. It is not in Tui's interest to have their customers sue them.

Sicario · 28/04/2020 07:46

I think they rely on the fact that most people won't/don't sue (which is true), but their customer service was so terrible that I lost patience with them. They used every possible excuse to avoid paying.

Fleurchamp · 30/04/2020 16:05

Anyone had any money yet? Nothing here and anxiously waiting to see if their claim of 1st May was true...

Muskeg · 01/05/2020 09:34

Have I frig! Hmm Just checked my bank, nothing, been waiting 6 weeks. Am gonna try and call them.

Muskeg · 01/05/2020 09:45

Its just engaged tone.................
