Just wondering how everyone is doing.

We had a good start with a Brexit stash. Have had a couple of click and collects and one normal supermarket shop. DH has been checking regularly for stock though. Our supermarket has been up and down in terms of stock.
We have most stuff, couldn’t get cornflakes last week and can’t get tinned tomatoes. Trying to cook with potatoes as much as we can as pasta is sometimes not available. Loo roll arrived as normal last week in the clock and collect.

I think we’ve been quite lucky and fortunate to be able to stock up in advance.

How’s everyone else doing? Missing major stuff and having to eat odd combinations or fairly complete now.

Bit of a nightmare here. Where I live I always for years did my shopping every 2 weeks with tesco. But now everyone is signed up and it's 5 weeks in between deliveries. I got shopping 2 weeks ago and my next slot is not for another 3 weeks. Even sitting refreshing page from 11.45 - 3am nothing... i have to go to the local supermarket and that only allows you 1-2 items of any product, so with 7 here it means daily trips. Kind of defeats the purpose of staying in. We have no car 3 people with serious illnesses. I've contacted Tesco to beg for help but in their long winded reply, they basically said tough.

So here they aren't looking after those who need it and as they say themselves, it's first come first served. We don't have family close by and the neighbor's are arseholes. I tried local fb page and there is no help for our town, the next town 45 min drive away said they can arrange someone to drop some essentials, I gave a list of 20 items and I was told I needed to cut it back. Also that there was a wait of up to 7 days, so it's easier for me to just go myself and carry it. The manager of the local supermarket did help us a little by allowing me to buy 2 bread and milk to try cut down on my visits, but that's nearly an argument daily with the checkout operator who likes to shout out that you are buying more than allowed.

So when this is all over I am making changes as to how I treat people, I've always helped others, gave money monthly to 4 charities, asked neighbour's if they needed anything, always thought of others when buying shopping ensuring there's enough left on shelf for others. I'll be reconsidering my delivery saver with Tesco as they have done nothing to help long term customers, not even releasing deliveries a little early like they do at Christmas but just being money hungry and delivering to people who never shopped with them and are fit and healthy and 2 cars outside their house.

We can't even order take away as they are all closed.

Good, in fact I have more food in the house than I normally do.
I usually go shopping every day for myself and my daughter, now I've cut it back to once every 4 days.
My usual shops are well stocked. My only problem is physically carrying it home as I don't drive and have to supervise my daughter at the same time.

I spent hours online yesterday in a futlie attempt to get food delivered.

If I was self isolating I may have been able to get a slot, but as a social distancing person who is not self-isolating it is impossible.

I am vulnerable to the virus as an asthmatic older person with a heart condition (AF) and also EDS (EDS comes with allergies / inflammation for me and this scares me re the virus)

However as my asthma and heart condition are controlled by meds I am not in the shielded group.

I have a fair amount of dried and tinned food. EDS = a sluggish digestive system and I get ill without lots of fruit and veg.

I am just about getting by but an having to visit the supermarket a couple of times a week. More accurately I visit the supermarket several times a week but turn back and go home if it looks busy.

I recently bough poor quality frut and veg at a higher price than usual because the better supermarket was too busy. I am extremely careful about social distancing.

I could not buy the healthy, high fibre cereal I need am will have to risk going out probably later today to try to get some. If it looks too busy I will turn back and go without.

Am making a home made mask from an Egyptian cotton pillow case so that if I go inside the supermarket later I will have a modicum of protection.

We are having some interesting recipes. A friend is bringing us a bag of fruit and veg when he does the same for his parents. However, it is a bag of whatever is available on the day, so we have to be flexible. Fortunately I like cooking and can make a meal out of virtually anything.
We are eating a lot more veg atm and fewer cakes, biscuits etc because shopping trips are limited and very local. I think our diet is actually pretty healthy for now.
The problems will come when there is nobody to pick the crops in the UK.

Our Morrison’s is very well stocked. No yeast or baking powder but I did get flour this morning plus a tin of tomatoes which had been out of stock until today. No dark brown sugar either but plenty light and only a few bags of pasta. Otherwise the shelves are full, including toilet roll. The hardest bit for me is working out a weeks worth of lunches for the family because I’m not used to everyone being home all day every day!

no delivery slots here for 4 week or click and collect, luckily i had a few extra tins that we are bulking up meals with, we have a few tins of toms, beans and soup left and plenty of pot noodles/super noodle type things that the teen is having for lunches
Have managed with dp going to aldi/ home bargains once a week but im missing fresh fruit and veg on tap.

Managed to score a morrisons food box due tomorrow and hoping that will give us a few extra meals.
Not sure how long we can sustain these smaller yet more expensive shops. Dp is furloughed and although I'm still working in s corner shop the payis shite snd conditions are crap, we are dropping like flys.
Only bonus is i can get fresh milk and bread from work, that really helps.

I really miss take aways

We're okay. I had a Brexit stash for starters so reasonably stocked with dried goods, my DH is vulnerable and shielding and now gets a Sainsbury's delivery slot through that, and our local farm shop delivers so we can get plenty of fresh fruit and veg. There is the odd thing we just can't get for love nor money but we work round it.

Don't understand how people are only going every two weeks when they don't have veg boxes, how are you getting 5 a day?!

freezer.

Eat the fresh food first, then eat the cooked one, then use frozen fruits and veg. Most of the fruits and veg in this country last about 2 weeks anyway - not sure it's a good thing, but apart from strawberries and the like, most of it is still good for nearly 2 weeks.

Pretty normal, tbh.

We live in a village and so tend to stock up a bit for winter in case of snow - no snow this year so the tins etc were still unused. We've always bought offers and bulks where it made £ to do so, and still had some frozen fruit and veg left over from last year's allotment harvest, all of which meant our freezers and shelves were pretty full already.

We've avoided supermarkets but managed to shop at the village shop for most fresh things, though we had a few days where fresh veg was hard to find but had the frozen fruit/veg we could use. Plus been able to get an online delivery about every couple of weeks, though have taken care just to keep to a normal sized shop with them. We also already had milk delivered from the milkman and this has just continued (thank goodness).

And yes having to feed 4 people 3 times a day is surprisingly stressful!

Usually ds2 is the only one that eats breakfast
No eats lunch at home during the week and we all eat dinner.
Suddenly everyone eating all the time!

fine. But I haven't been in a supermarket. I think supermarket shopping makes people go crazy. We buy a little everyday as we need it. The greengrocers always have plenty of stock.
I'm also using up stuff that's been lurking at the back of the cupboard for ages (I've accumulated ridiculous amounts of couscous)
But then, I'm fortunate that there are only the two of us, and there are plenty of independent small shops nearby.

We are in a worldwide pandemic lockdown situation. Sometimes you can't get five a day.

However so far we are fine, plenty of orange juice and tinned fruit and veg in the pantry, more in the freezer plus things like carrots, apples etc last for ages and the garden is well stocked with rhubarb.

We are fine here in rural Scotland. Over the winter, we always have a few extra tins, bread in the freezer and loo roll etc in the house and freezer. We’ve not had a bad winter so those items are being used now.

Our supermarket is 10 miles away and is well stocked with the exception of eggs and flour/baking stuff.

We didn't have any stockpile and I've not needed to do more than a normal shop each week. Have made adjustments to recipes according to what's available but we haven't gone without anything.
We're in a market town if that makes a difference.

No problems at all, we are very rural so we always have a full store cupboard with months on end supply. Outside cold store still has potatoes, carrots, onions and turnips from last years harvest. Both freezers are full of meat. Neighbour (1/4 mile away) has just emptied his creel's and brought a Lobster and a crab round. Another has just shot a deer, so some lovely Venison later in the week.

We're doing ok. A few bits missing from the regular shop but we have enough to get through the week.

One of the best things to come from this is how much less food we are wasting. We are much more conscious of use-by dates and utilising leftovers.

We had full cupboards and freezer long before Brexit and Covid. We've always prepared, which worked out well during Storm Desmond when we had a week without power and all shops were closed for several days.

Now we just "top up" what we've used each week, so pretty small shops just for essentials really - cupboards and freezer still pretty full.

We're fine. I always bulk buy where possible anyway so we have lots of basmati rice, pasta, toilet roll, washing powder, dishwasher tablets etc because we already had them in. I've just used up the last of my flour but there's a catering supplier locally who is now doing home deliveries so I'll get a sack of flour and yeast from them. We had a couple of shopping slots booked because we were self-isolating even before lockdown started and they delivered eggs last week. The only thing we can't get anywhere is quorn - my DD eats a lot of quorn sausages but that's fine, there's plenty of alternative stuff.

Plenty of fruit and veg lasts for weeks, some for months. Just stay away from the stuff that has very short lives and concentrate on long life produce.

we're ok, I'm getting an Ocado delivery every 10 days and I'm trying not to shop in between as I feel so lucky to have a regular stock and dread the thought of going to supermarket etc.

Prices have risen dramatically due to no offers. Freezer is full and we are eating frozen veg when fresh runs out which is something we don't normally do.

Main problem is kids pigging out on biscuits, they don't seem to grasp that I won't be popping to the shops to restock when they run out.

We've been fine, switched to doing our usual fortnightly shop at a local farm shop and have sent partner out to B&M once for cleaning products and toiletries etc. The only thing I've not been able to get is Dettol Laundry Cleanser, I always use this because my son has a manky comfort blanket he likes to munch on and it gets rid of the stinky sweat smells that non-bio doesn't always get rid of so I'm pretty annoyed now I've ran out!

Apart from first week when people went mad we have managed to get most things. Three in our household. We take it in terms to go to the supermarket and do one shop a week. Waitrose is strictly enforcing social distancing and people respecting that. Only a certain number let into the supermarket at the same time. If we run out we are being creative until the next weekly shop.
