It’s bloody ridiculous and makes her position borderline untenable, which is infuriating because she has otherwise been very good.

The local population in Earlsferry has a real issue with second home owners defying the advice and turning up at the weekend. We will all end up with scricter measure because of eejits like her who can't follow the rules.

I live in the country and I don't see why I should sacrifice the long country walks on my doorstep where I don't see a soul because the CMO can't follow her own rules,

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 15:00

@BBCONEANDTWO She said it herself at the start of the press conference!

BlueThursday · 05/04/2020 15:01

So not once but twice!

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 15:01

So no "checking" needed, two weeks in a row........

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 05/04/2020 15:03

I just hope that all the keyboard warriors on here policing the application of the government guidelines have themselves been observing government guidance on diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise and obesity over the years

No, I probably haven’t

But i have been obeying lockdown rules and the examples you have given above have fuck all to do with that

SaltnSauce20 · 05/04/2020 15:03

Watching this now, very awkward, not passing questions on to cmo.....I wonder why..

PicsInRed · 05/04/2020 15:04

Why on earth should she lose her job in the middle of a global pandemic and crisis?

Deputy will have to step up, the way England's Deputy did when Whitty was isolating.

She needs to go.

How can any of the UK be required to follow the current advice and be fined, let alone the expected harder lockdown, when this total wally went on holiday 2 weekends on the hop with nothing but a warning.

Fuck's sake.

Some animals are more equal than others indeed.

coachman · 05/04/2020 15:05

Normally I am all for forgiving and moving on. Anyone can make mistakes and learn from them. But in this case, given her position and the seriousness of the situation we are in, I think for her to continue is untenable.

BurgerQuean · 05/04/2020 15:05

It was not a minor mistake! It was a conscious decision to flout the rules she’s been telling everyone else to stick to rigorously, twice! How many people are now going to think ‘well it can’t be that bad to drive to the beach or pop to our country home an hour away, because the CMO did it’?

What a debacle!

Her thoughtless action has completely undermined the "Stay At Home" policy. Unforgivable from someone in such a senior position.

Innitogether · 05/04/2020 15:06

Nicola seems to be protecting the cmo, answering for her as much as possible?

tava63 · 05/04/2020 15:06

She has sincerely apologised. I for one accept that her apology was genuine and sincere. She didn't excuse her behaviour even though I think she could have - she was with her family group, she was self distancing etc. In some ways her action makes things clearer. I've certainly had conversations in my own home about travelling a distance (though in fairness to myself not as far as 44 miles - just a couple of miles) to get to a nice walk.

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 15:07

She is sorry she caught - all the bollocks about "checking" the house too. Hmm

Innitogether · 05/04/2020 15:08

I wouldn’t be surprised if the cmo is being treated for stress and that’s why she hasn’t been sacked.

BlueThursday · 05/04/2020 15:09

I actually don’t accept the apology; what if all 6million of us decided to do this too?

GreyGardens88 · 05/04/2020 15:09

Do we need to stay in and avoid non essential travel or not? I've been sat in my one room flat share for the last 2 week's like a numpty

TokyoSushi · 05/04/2020 15:09

This press conference is excruciating, Nicola doing her best but if I were the CMO I'd be stepping down as they come out of it!

Nirvana1979 · 05/04/2020 15:10

That was very awkward.

I can't see how she can be taken seriously now. Maybe she can still assist behind the scenes. She is obviously a very clever (acadmically) woman.

Can't believe she went 2 weekends in a row. What a stupid stupid thing to do.

iMoan7 · 05/04/2020 15:11

The continued use of the word mistake is annoying me. That’s not a mistake. That’s a deliberate zero-fucks the-rules-dont-apply-to-me situation.

iMoan7 · 05/04/2020 15:11

Essentially Nicola was saying I know this is shit but we can’t do this without her

PicsInRed · 05/04/2020 15:11

She has sincerely apologised. I for one accept that her apology was genuine and sincere.

Oh, well, that's fine then.

I'll make sure to have a really genuine and sincere 🥺 😢 😭 apology ready when I just do whatever the fuck I please.

Trip to the beach, anyone? 🏖 🌊 🎉

Rosehip10 · 05/04/2020 15:12

how can it be a "mistake" - that would be not being aware fully of the rules!

VivLevy · 05/04/2020 15:12

Really struggling to convey seriousness of staying at home to my elderly at risk mother in law.
She appeared to finally got the message.
She is very keen to get away to the family bolt hole but obviously we have been laying down the law that it would be hugely irresponsible.
Now this …
Do as we say …
Major balls up I say she will have to resign .
Jason Leitch isn't exactly coming out of this well either?

Nirvana1979 · 05/04/2020 15:13

Yeah it wasnt a mistake at all.

PicsInRed · 05/04/2020 15:13

Essentially Nicola was saying I know this is shit but we can’t do this without her

Noone is irreplaceable.
If she died of Corona, she'd be replaced immediately and the programme would roll on.
