If exercise rules are tightened ....

Looks like the rules will be tightened because of the mindless idiots who cannot stay at home as they have been instructed to.

My question is this - what on earth are we going to do about our dogs? They have to be exercised and they need to do their business outdoors so what will happen?

More to the point what about children who won’t do exercise routines? Dragging them out on a walk stops full blown inactivity.

coffeeandcreamer · 05/04/2020 11:01

Possibly one person will be allowed out to walk their dog providing they stay (400m, for example) a certain distance from their home. ID will need to be carried?

Yogawoogie · 05/04/2020 11:01

Good question! Will it be no gardens too?

MumofTinies · 05/04/2020 11:03

Children need exercise as much as dogs do. When does the cure become worse than Corona.

Babyfg · 05/04/2020 11:03

What about all the children who live in flats with no outdoor space?

It will make this lockdown 100x hard if we're not allowed this daily exercise.

WoollySheep462 · 05/04/2020 11:04

Honestly its not going to happen.

catnidge · 05/04/2020 11:05

This is why people need to obey the rules now and stop believing they are the exception.

Let's face it if you're some where you shouldn't be a picture is bound to be sent to the Daily Mail...

Caspianberg · 05/04/2020 11:05

The same that others have been doing in other countries for weeks already.
1 person takes dog out on lead, only allowed a certain distance from house ie 100m. So basically they can be walked up and down street only. It's more than humans are allowed, it's temporary, and fine.
Children also need exercise, but aren't allowed in many countries currently, your dog isn't going to get the exception to go on 5 mile hikes.

Flipreverseit · 05/04/2020 11:06

I don’t think they will. They are still pursuin
g herd immunity whether they say so or not. So it makes sense to keep the majority of the population as healthy as possible and exercise and vitamin d are vital to that.
Not to mention the mental health aspect.

catnidge · 05/04/2020 11:06

I don't know, relative in Spain is only allowed out to exercise her dog, not her child.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 05/04/2020 11:06

I have a husky - it would be cruel if she couldn't go for a walk. Luckily we have a garden at least.

Lumisade · 05/04/2020 11:07

I will break the rules, going out at night with my head torch if necessary. I'm pregnant, I need to exercise. I have a collie, he needs exercise.

user1495884620 · 05/04/2020 11:07

It would make more sense to close parks, beaches and similar public spaces. Then you can go for a walk, run or cycle but can't congregate anywhere.

Makeitgoaway · 05/04/2020 11:07

67m people forced to be sedentary and go without daylight and we're going to worry about the dogs?

iVampire · 05/04/2020 11:07

In Italy (? - on of the more locked down European countries) you can take dogs out for as many toilet breaks as you like, but only within 50m of your front door.

You keep dogs who cannot be exercised by walks, stimulated with brain games - various animal welfare sites have posted guidance on this (its always available as you need it At any time for convalescent dogs too, but it’s considerably easier to find at the moment)

You probably get your DC to comply with indoor exercise in the same way you would your dogs - small frequent reward treats (allowed for in overall daily food amount, if food motivated) given frequently to reward both good behaviour and behaviour that is moving in the direction of good

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 05/04/2020 11:08

European countries had to do this due to pisstakers. Many live in flats there. They just have to cope. Mental health is also effected when loved ones die of the virus and you can't be with them Hmm.

Rosa · 05/04/2020 11:08

OUr dog went from 3 hrs walk a day ( no garden here) to 200m from home as fuckwits thought that the rules did not apply to them. Our kids the same they do all exercise inside with the windows open .. 0ne person can walk the dog and if we need to go more than 200m from home we have a auto certificate that we print off and have to show with id if stopped. The dog goes out now 5 times a day instead of the 3 before and is just as fed up as we are .

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 11:09

They need to do their business but they don’t ‘have’ to be exercised

Magicbabywaves · 05/04/2020 11:09

Won’t happen

Bagelsandbrie · 05/04/2020 11:09

I don’t think they can actually enforce this. People who don’t drive for example, they’d still to go to the supermarkets. Or the pharmacy. Everyone would just carry an empty shopping bag and say they were going to Tesco....!

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 05/04/2020 11:10

@Makeitgoaway - at least adults understand, children can be reasoned with, but a dog would not understand why it can't go out.

OP posts:
Rosa · 05/04/2020 11:10

@Lumisade we have a collie as well ... he has learnt so many mental games . He goes out at 6.30 am and last walk at 10 . and we don't have a garden. Its hard but he is coping ok

Bearbehind · 05/04/2020 11:11

Honestly its not going to happen.

wooly unless you’re part of the cabinet you cannot possibly say that

It can happen and most likely will if people don’t stop flouting the current rules

Plenty of other countries have done it

TheOtherSideOfTheMountain · 05/04/2020 11:11

People with horses have issues too. Those who can turn them out 24/7 are ok. For those who can't, we've already been advised not to ride to avoid any pressure on nhs if we fell off. So for a stabled horse, how does it get exercise if not even allowed to walk or lunge inhand? Some horses get really serious health issues if they become overweight or too stiff on their legs...

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 05/04/2020 11:11

Because no one's going to notice a torch? Your dog is not as important as peoples' lives Hmm.
