What do we think a relaxation would look like if it come?

Think this is probably a way off yet and thinks may get tighter before they get better, but how with this happen and what do we think will be relaxed first?

I mean it's not going to go from virtual lock-down/complete lock-down to normal is it?

Maybe more shops open? Parks/carparks? Still advised to work from home but schools back? Mass immunity testing and those with immunity allowed to return to normal?

Has anyone seen any likely scenarios or have any thoughts?

I think (hope) the first thing will be open spaces as they were the last thing to close? I know some are still open but a lot of ours are closed or inaccessible due to car parks being closed. Not sure after that I think schools need to be a priority so we can go back to work but it also needs to be safe.

PlywoodPlank · 04/04/2020 15:23

I imagine that schools and restrictions on travel will be the last things to normalise.

Laiste · 04/04/2020 15:24

Yes i imagine it will go in reverse order. With the exception of schools. I think they'll be one of the last to re open even though they were quite late to close. I think. It felt like that anyway!

Laiste · 04/04/2020 15:26

What ever or where ever is opened first is going to get an absolute stampede of people going to it. Fascinating to see how they control this aspect as well as the actual order of it all.

Ilikewinter · 04/04/2020 15:29

My thinking will be take aways, restaurants if they can keep tables at a distance, self employed ie trades people, hairdressers, dog salons! etc. I think public transport will run a more regular schedule. Supermarkets will extend their ipening hours but still nit back to 24hr openings. Shops will have to open but try to implement social distancing, those that can WFH still encouraged to do so but maybe spend odd days in the office. I don't think schools will open so not sure how those back at work are supposed to manage.
Ive no idea when or how flights start to happen.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/04/2020 15:32

Yep, I'm interested to see how it will all pan out and what gets relaxed. I think social distancing will be the last thing to go and might be around for a long time so I think thinks that can function with that in place might be first. So parks, some types of leisure activities, shops and food places. I'm thinking limits on numbers allowed similar to supermarkets. So, bowling alleys but only every 2nd lane. cinemas but only half capacity, car parks at places of interest but only half spaces and only for folk travelling less than 30 minutes or something.

I think they might try and get the schools back for a few weeks before the end of academic term.

If we are still going for herd immunity as testing/vaccines are not going to be widely available for a long time then they need us to be exposed in a slow pace until Oct when flu season starts up again and presumably Co-Vid 2 hits us.

permana · 04/04/2020 15:36

I think the order will be:

Schools
Work
Leisure
Social-Distancing

Before we go through it all in Sept.

Hopefulmama34 · 04/04/2020 15:39

I disagree regarding schools, I think they will reopen in May/June after some gradual relaxation of other lockdown restrictions. Millions of people won’t be able to go back to work until they have childcare available. Social distancing will be more long-term until a vaccine is found and widely distributed.

Laiste · 04/04/2020 15:47

I think there'll be a lot of disagreements between family and friends re continued social distancing or not. There'll be threads ...

MIL and FIL have been isolating, but will be gagging to rush up to us for a visit. MIL is one of those in the 'should isolate for longer' category and our house is very mixed and busy. DH's sister will want her child minding again asap ... I can see DH getting het up ...

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/04/2020 15:52

universities closed, in all but name, before schools, face to face lectures stopped etc. However, if lecturers and tutors can be protected, I think they will get students back in September if we are not already at that stage. They are least likely to be affected if infected so are a reasonable group to get the next wave of immunity applied to. I think schools will be in same boat but may be back before summer. Most unis now more or less on study time and exam time so nothing face to face on now that most exams been cancelled anyway.

Re: schools opening:

I have a DC in primary school and i cannot see how pick up/drop off and general school day life can be controlled re: social distancing.

And if all primary school kids are suddenly mingling during the day and parents are mingling away at the gate and in the playground and there's no control, then it negates the point of nearly all other social distancing measures in society in one fell swoop.

Only allowing 'lower risk' children/families back to school first would put them at an unfair advantage to the rest. So i can't see that being a solution. This is why i see schools being last to reopen.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/04/2020 16:11

Maybe just high schools?

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 04/04/2020 16:13

and possibly just senior years. In Scotland our exams finish at the end of May and Dc usually have a month of starting studying their new exam subjects before school finishes at end of June. It would be good to accommodate that if possible.

I wondered if they might reopen schools just to older children. But then that won’t help parents get back to work as it will only be the children who don’t need childcare anyway I suppose.

I’m not sure cinemas and restaurants could profitably reopen at half capacity? Running costs could be prohibitive if they can’t be more than half full at any given time. Big films still won’t be released until they can count on full cinemas for the box office figures.

I can see parks, National Trust etc opening first and managing it fairly easily but I can’t envisage measures in general being a halfway thing unless people are extremely compliant with the rules, hygiene and maintaining distance.

I’m sure businesses will come up with creative solutions though!

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/04/2020 16:31

My kids are university age now and DH and I both working full time anyway, me at home and him in NHS so I suppose the getting people back to work thing doesn't really apply to us. :)

Many people are treating this weekend as if there have already been relaxations- maybe they never understood it or cared in the first place. Bearing in mind we've got people having parties and picnics on the beach imagine how it would be if anything at all was "relaxed" Hmm

Appuskidu · 04/04/2020 16:52

My DC is due to start university this year-and was wondering how it would all work?!

Universities starting again will mean thousands of teenagers all relocating across the globe meeting and queuing and snogging for freshers week (presuming the social distancing is relaxed) spreading germs en masse!

LemonScentedStickyBat · 04/04/2020 16:56

I would love for years 10 and 12 to go back before other kids. Maybe Year 6 also.

Matildathehun77 · 04/04/2020 17:16

Regarding schools, remember a lot of them are still open as "hubs" to keyworker and vulnerable children. We've been told our hub "could" take 50 but at present has 5-10 children. I think the rules around hubs will get gradually relaxed until the hubs reach about 25% capacity of the school, then perhaps they'll open to a degreee maybe half the class am and half pm or something?

Barbie222 · 04/04/2020 17:41

Opening the schools briefly at the end of June would allow for our next peak in the summer break.

Snog · 05/04/2020 08:38

I think the idea will be to boost the economy and get people back to work. Those who can work from home will continue to be asked to do so.

Crowded public events will still be banned. Schools will go back. People will still be asked to social distance as much as possible and not to travel unless necessary.

If we have the antibody rest then those that test positive can go back to normal life. Vulnerable people will need to carry on taking more precautions.

HarrietOh · 05/04/2020 08:44

I’m hoping being able to visit people out of your household is the first thing. Can’t wait to see DP!

Smithtylater · 05/04/2020 08:57

I hope one of the firsr things is seeing family and friends! And taking my little daughter to play on the swings...shes desperate to go play on them!

screwcovid19 · 05/04/2020 09:08

I think (in Scotland) nurseries that are usually open 50 weeks per year will go back in mid June and the schools will go back in August.
