My DC have bad eczema and can only get their sun cream from boots, is it classed as an essential or not? My nearest boots is 20 min drive 🥴

Are boots doing delivery OP?

Crystal87 · 04/04/2020 13:08

Yes it's an essential if it's summer but wouldn't say it is at the moment, unless they've been advised to wear it all the time.

PurpleDaisies · 04/04/2020 13:10

Do you need anything else? I’d do it as part of a trip getting a few things.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 04/04/2020 13:11

Yes thats why theres no vat on it.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/04/2020 13:17

Yes. And the sun is strong enough to burn now.

cinammonbuns · 04/04/2020 13:20

It is a medical item. Prevents against skin cancer. Yes you should go and get it. If you don’t and your kids get sunburn then presumably would need to go and get sun after care. So it’s better for everyone to get sunscreen to prevent that.

If I needed anything else from boots I would do it all in one go to save time and going out.

Mysocalledlifexx · 04/04/2020 13:21

Yes i would say it is,its a must when the nice weather starts. I would get it.

Wolfiefan · 04/04/2020 13:29

Personally I wouldn’t. Mine are staying in TBH. Don’t you have any left over from last year? Can you put up some shade for them to play under if they’re little.
It’s only an essential if you HAVE to be out and so are at risk if you don’t put it on.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 04/04/2020 13:34

Yes. I have very fair skin, I burn within about 30 minutes of being outside and the sun this weekend will be strong enough to burn me. If your DC are like that too then I'd go and get some.

sonypony · 04/04/2020 13:34

I would go and get it. Much better than them getting sunburnt enough to need medical advice or treatment.

HT96 · 04/04/2020 13:40

@Waxonwaxoff0 Yes unfortunately they got my skin! Unlike their dad who has lovely tanned skin I am almost see through and so are they! All 3 of us burn and will more than likely burn tomorrow if the forecast is correct!!

I was always burnt and peeling as a child I remember crying in pain once, so promised my self I would never let my children get like that!

Thanks everyone! Will try get other things we will end up needing soon if we are allowed! Have heard some boots stores have sectioned parts of the store of like shampoo and body wash!

HT96 · 04/04/2020 13:41

@sonypony that is very true! Although I will try and keep her in the shade its hard as we have a large open garden.

cinammonbuns · 04/04/2020 13:42

@Wolfiefan presumably if the op had any left she wouldn’t be asking if it was ok to get some. There is absolutely no problem with getting sunscreen it is an essential item.

Op ignore them

GreenTulips · 04/04/2020 13:44

Aloe Pura sun cream is great for eczema skin

On amazon

CtrlU · 04/04/2020 13:45

If you need it and it’s essential to YOU, why are you unsure ? Confused

HT96 · 04/04/2020 13:47

@GreenTulips we have tried many spent over £100 last year on the stuff to find one that did not cause a flare up! But thank you for the suggestion 😊

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 04/04/2020 13:49

No it isn’t essential. You can choose to go out and stay in the shade, cover up, go out just early or late in the day, for very short periods or even stay in.
This is why the lockdown won’t work.
It’s essential I drive out to the woods to exercise.
I must pick up that item from FB selling pages.
I need new books or puzzles or DVDs.
No you don’t.
The NHS could do with us all being a bit less selfish.

cinammonbuns · 04/04/2020 13:53

@wolfiefan All of your examples are completely different to buying sunscreen. The op isn’t getting something for entertainment or fun it is literally to prevent her kids getting sunburn. If they did get sunburn then she would have to go out anyway to get bloody sun after care or if it was extreme she may even have to seek medical assistance which is obviously not ideal at this time.

The reason places like boots and Superdrug are still open is because people still need things like shampoo, body wash deodorant, sunscreen etc. These things are essential.

I think people like you will only be happy if people are locked up in the their bedrooms with only bread and water. Thank goodness everyone else is more rational than that.

sharonmarron · 04/04/2020 13:53

What's the suncream brand? Interested as DD has eczema which flares in the sun.

I'd say yes falls into essential. Could you pick up some of his eczema cream while there to avoid a repeat journey later? I am just buying DDs eczema cream rather than putting a burden on the NHS by getting her usual repeat prescription (the moisturizer rather than the steroid)

MiaowMix · 04/04/2020 13:54

Why would you stay in the shade or indoors when the sun has properly come out (in England) for the first time since winter?! HmmConfused
Get some vitamin d. And surely you can order sun cream online?

Wolfiefan · 04/04/2020 13:57

@MiaowMix why would you stay indoors? Seriously? Er a worldwide pandemic killing thousands.
You don’t HAVE to sit in the sun. So don’t.

MiaowMix · 04/04/2020 13:59

@Wolfiefan thanks, I know all about the pandemic.
I was kind of assuming the op meant in her garden. I'm taking all the advice very seriously, but I think one's own garden with one's own family is still ok.

lemonsandlimes123 · 04/04/2020 14:01

no it's not essential as you don't need to go out in the sun..There are many ways to protect yourself from the sun without needing this particular cream.

Wolfiefan · 04/04/2020 14:02

But not if it means you need to make a non essential trip out in the car for an hour to buy special suncream. Confused

HT96 · 04/04/2020 14:02

@sharonmarron Soltan sensitive LOTION, all of the spray versions cause bad flare ups, also the child's farm lotion works to without a flare up but is a little more drying than the soltan!

Will be getting the Soltan though as my son is the same but child's farm products dry out his skin were as with DD she can use the oaty bath so every child is different xx
