Does everyone who get it end up in hospital?

Just wondering people’s thoughts on this.

I feel like I may have already had it. But now I’m not sure as so many are ending up in hospital. But then look at BoJo, Matt Hancock and Prince Charles. It’s so confusing.

No

CodenameVillanelle · 03/04/2020 14:26

Obviously not

zelbazinnamon · 03/04/2020 14:26

No.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/04/2020 14:27

Around 1 in 5/ 1 in 6 end up in hospital.

WingBingo · 03/04/2020 14:27

No

DeRigueurMortis · 03/04/2020 14:27

No.

The vast majority of people will have no/mild/moderate symptoms and will need no medical intervention whatsoever.

Skeeter2020 · 03/04/2020 14:27

No. What planet are you on?

Selfsettling3 · 03/04/2020 14:28

20% of people will not even know they have had it, the majority of people will have ‘mild’ symptoms (feel awful but are fine at home) and some will need hospital treatment.

AmelieTaylor · 03/04/2020 14:29

No

Thank god.

minipie · 03/04/2020 14:30

No.

The UK have until recently only been testing people who require medical help. So that means it looks like a lot of people who get it, are hospitalised. But there’s loads of people getting it and not needing medical help and so not being tested.

Kim82 · 03/04/2020 14:30

No. My sister and her boyfriend have had it (her boyfriend was tested in hospital when he was in for an op on a broken ankle as he developed a temp and slight cough the day after the op and the test came back as positive). Neither were hospitalised from it, just felt grotty for a week or so and they’re both on the mend now.

StrawberryJam200 · 03/04/2020 14:31

It depends, as with most illnesses, on the severity of your symptoms. Look at the NHS 111 Cv symptom checker thing if you’re worried. Man, many people who’ve had it and recovered, have felt awful and had painful breathing and high temps, but have been able to remain at home. You could look at the MN threads entitled My lungs are on fire for examples. Others have no symptoms or just a mild sore throat and feel ‘a bit funny’ for a few days.

Violetroselily · 03/04/2020 14:32
Hmm
Mysocalledlifexx · 03/04/2020 14:32

No , we just hear the bad stories, i wish the papers would print stories on those that had it mild or those that got through it.

okiedokieme · 03/04/2020 14:33

No, I think I've had it, just a cold really - it's thought around 80% of people need no medical assistance

AgeLikeWine · 03/04/2020 14:33

No.

All the evidence is that the overwhelming majority of people who get covid-19 have a mild or moderate self-limiting illness. The overwhelming majority of those who do die will be elderly and in poor heath before catching the disease.

The media, for obvious reasons, give prominent coverage to the very, very small number of relatively young people with no pre-existing conditions who die of this disease but they don’t report that for every one of those, many tens of thousands will recover fully & uneventfully.

StrawberryJam200 · 03/04/2020 14:33

Man- y*, many people, I meant!

But yeah, Man!

Stet · 03/04/2020 14:33

Of course not. The vast majority won't.

ButteryPuffin · 03/04/2020 14:34

There's no way they would all fit!

Plus virtually none of the well known people who've had it have gone to hospital. Boris Johnson, Prince Charles, Idris Elba

PainauChocolat12 · 03/04/2020 14:35

No. My step mum has post corona pneumonia and hasn’t been admitted at any point.

TwigTheWonderKid · 03/04/2020 14:37

I'm curious to know why you are "wondering about people's thoughts" on this when you can find excellent evidence-based facts from experts eg www.imperial.ac.uk/news/196573/covid-19-one-five-over-80s-need-hospitalisation/ ?

lazylinguist · 03/04/2020 14:37

Confused It's not confusing at all. Some people get it really badly, some people get hardly any symptoms at all, most people are somewhere in between. Only people who get it badly will need to go to hospital.

LIZS · 03/04/2020 14:40

Not confusing at all. Most people have mild symptoms and need no medical attention, from a chemist, gp or hospital. Even in the higher risk groups.

ScarlettDarling · 03/04/2020 14:43

@TwigTheWonderKid thanks for posting that source. Reading the figures without a load of sensational reporting is a lot less scary.

CathyandHeathcliff · 03/04/2020 14:45

Thanks everyone, I suppose it’s the bombardment from the media, I keep getting into a daily panic
