Easyjet - cancellation

croon979 · 03/04/2020 08:27

I am one of many battling to get through to talk to someone at Easyjet to get refund due to cancellation. Moving flight dates or claiming voucher will not work for us. Apparently issuing refunds but only via telephone. I must have tried to get through a hundred times over the past week.

My question is my flights were due to fly tomorrow. Is it critical that you get the cancellation before this date or will they continue to refund after this date has passed! Worried about them going bust in meantime too.

Anyone had any positive stories of refunds?

Legally I don't think they would be able to require you to get a refund before the date of the flight, especially if they're not picking up the phone. Maybe check your travel insurance (if you have it) to see whether it covers you for the airline going bust.

TheReelSlimShady · 03/04/2020 09:06

I posted the below previously as been in same boat, you have up to a year to claim your refund

twitter.com/easyJet/status/1244542518987014144

However, like you, I'm concerned that either they go bust OR they get their way with the other airlines and don't have to give 'cash' refunds but can force people to take credit notes. That's why they're stalling so much.

Fallsballs · 03/04/2020 09:50

I’ve heard you can get your bank or card to refund you. But currently my bank aren’t taking customer calls - just recorded messages.
I think easyJet are behaving very badly. They removed the refund button from the website too. If they had handled this differently I think people would have rearranged flights but now everyone is panicking (myself included).

croon979 · 03/04/2020 13:25

Thanks very much all. Am going to try to get through again today - will let you know if I have any luck

You have a year.

I am still trying to get a refund. Flights were Tuesday and Friday this week.
I can never et through to them ever.

croon979 · 03/04/2020 14:03

I have just had them on redial constantly for about a hour just hanging up and redialling in the hope that someone picks up

Yes I think they will have lost a lot of customer goodwill by removing the refund button! There's no point rearranging flights at this stage as we don't know what's going to be happening, and some trips were specific one off trips for a reason which has now passed. I've emailed them but no reply. Dreadful service from them - especially as I think Stelios has plenty of cash.

Fallsballs · 03/04/2020 14:50

Does anyone have an email address for refunds ? I see the customer support one but wondered if there was a ‘better’ one.

I think easyJet’s contempt of their customers has been shocking. Not answering phones, removing refund buttons and basically holding onto our money like gangsters.

TheReelSlimShady · 03/04/2020 14:55

I think they are hoping the government is going to cave in and allow them to give credit notes instead of refunds.

I had two easyjet flights booked. One was cancelled and I could process the refund online (although haven't actually got it yet!). The second was after they removed the refund button.

I had never flown easyjet before and now I'm understanding why!

Stet · 03/04/2020 14:55

They're stalling because if everyone gets refunds while they aren't flying then they are up the swanny, like all the flight companies. Not great but if the alternative is the collapse of their company 🤷‍♀️ We have Easyjet fights but I'm just waiting for now as is a) rather the company didn't go under b) have insurance anyway if they do and c) am not wasting time sitting on the phone for hours for money that's already been spent and accounted for. Hopefully we will get it back at some point, but if everyone is baying for instant refunds then the reality is that these companies will just go under.

Random18 · 03/04/2020 14:59

I'm sure I did see them mention you do not have to resolve before flight.

I thought the email I received was a bit naughty
It didn't mention full refund.

I don't know what to do. I could probably get a voucher and I may do that as I can't be bothered with the hassle but i have another set of flights at the end of May too which have not been cancelled yet

And unless I have received an email today only my out round flight is cancelled so far next week.

isoblue · 03/04/2020 15:35

I’ve given up trying to get through. Our flight was yesterday but I’m going to wait for it all to calm down before I try again!

Fallsballs · 03/04/2020 16:19

Re “Baying for refunds”
I had the same idea as yourself but when I saw easyJet treating customers like fools instead of explaining I decided to get my money back.
I paid for a service that I didn’t get.

Aragog · 03/04/2020 17:09

baying for instant refunds

I am not 'baying' for an instant refund. I am happy for them to refund me in time.

I do however expect to be allowed to request the refund which I am legally entitled to.

My flights were Tuesday and Friday this week, so all now passed. They were cancelled last week. I have tried all manner of ways of contacting them and they NEVER respond.

EasyJet are complaining that their call lines are busy. I know they are. I spent over 4 hours the other day trying to contact them and still didn't get through.

They could make the call like less busy by reinstating the Request Refund button on their site. It was there before CV19 kicked in.

However, I do want a refund. We were travelling for a specific celebration. That date has now passed. Its not the same going at another time. I do not want a credit note which needs using in 6 months time. I don't want to change my flights either.

Their customer service over this has been dreadful. Even the much criticised RyanAir have been better!

After this it means that I am very unlikely to choose to fly with EJ again. Its not worth the hassle if things go wrong.

Aragog · 03/04/2020 18:32

Just had an email. A few days ago I emailed the exec office, as well as the general one and twitter messages.

Easyjet - cancellation
Fallsballs · 03/04/2020 18:53

Well done @Aragog. I’ve filed a request for refund via my bank.
Hopefully they will repay, if not I’ll try Easyjet again, if my nerves can handle it.

MabelMoo23 · 03/04/2020 18:58

Under EU regs (which are valid until December) you have a year to claim a refund.

BA are also making you call them for a refund rather than a credit note. I am sure I read somewhere that the airlines are putting pressure on to get the refund rule reversed, basically as mentioned above, because if they have to keep giving refunds, potentially they could collapse.

I’m due to go to Orlando in June and if we can’t go, I don’t want a voucher I want a refund m. I feel bad because I know how desperately the travel industry needs us to rebook, but my dc starts school in September and I won’t have the luxury of travelling whenever we want so it won’t be as easy to just “travel within 12 months”

tootyfruitypickle · 03/04/2020 19:33

Ceo has just sent an email which seems to suggest they will be contacting us and offering refund or voucher.

croon979 · 03/04/2020 19:45

Yes I just got that email too. Hopefully a positive sign

Aceventura20000 · 03/04/2020 19:46

All travel companies are in the shit and will go bust if they have to issue refunds at this stage. I’m sure, given time, they will start to issue refunds once they are certain of their future, which at the moment they aren’t.

Fallsballs · 03/04/2020 19:53

I got the email too.
I totally agree the travel industry is in the shit but if only they would communicate with their customers. Such a simple thing to do and yet Easyjet left it too late. I don’t think it was done out of philanthropy either, they were legally obliged.

tootyfruitypickle · 03/04/2020 20:24

I guess if they hold off for 6 months, it might just be possible that people will start travelling again. Perhaps they’re just trying to delay until they have some cash flow. I’m not finding them as irritating as the holiday company that won’t refund me and has double their prices for next year Angry

Bool · 03/04/2020 20:50

@croon979 I got a refund overnight through my credit card holder. Have you tried that?

definitelygc · 03/04/2020 21:33

@Bool how did you do that? Was it automatic or did you have to contact someone?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/04/2020 21:37

I had an email from EasyJet today too.

Also had one 2 days ago saying my week in Turkey starting 20 June is still going ahead and to pay the balance.

Don't think I will though. Rather just loose the deposit.
