Are the schools definitely not opening after easter?

I really hope they don't given the situation but we've received no official information from the school and as far as I can tell from the government either. They said a week or so ago they're unlikely to open but when will they say officially?

@manicinsomniac my OH who is frontline NHS, he got the info from work but remember nobody knows what is going to happen until it happens. Its all predictions and estimations.

blue25 · 02/04/2020 11:58

No plans to open after Easter here. Teachers told to plan virtual lessons up to July (end of term).

Iateallthecookies000 · 02/04/2020 11:59

How many of these threads have already posted this question. Nobody knows and judging by what’s going on in the country it doesn’t look like it’s anytime soon.

BonnesVacances · 02/04/2020 11:59

Pretty sure they're shut until further notice.

Selfisolationquery · 02/04/2020 12:14

@lateallthecookies000 funny how the internet works, you know how you can just keep scrolling past any thread you don't like? I'm sorry you feel frustrated by the number of these threads posted. I'm sorry for worrying about the education and childcare of DC and wondering if anyone had any idea. I don't know any teachers and didn't know if maybe they would have some indication considering it's currently the holidays in England.

Worrying isn’t going to make the schools open any quicker. I’m planning for the next few months now and it’s making me feel less helpless.

Twinkerbellsmum · 02/04/2020 12:25

Someone seems to start a new thread asking this.. every.. single.. day..

So why didn't you just go look at one of the MANY other threads, that all come to the same conclusion? Which is that no one knows Hmm

I wonder how all these schools have been told September when even the government doesn’t know?! Miraculous that some headteachers know more than Boris...

Nobody knows so there no point in saying Sept/Oct/Jan.

We don’t even know when the peak will be (only that it looks like it will be sooner than we thought).

If Italy reopens schools in May as reported in the Times the other day I doubt we will keep them shut until autumn then unleash everyone back in to the system just as we come in to flu season. Think about it.

The government will want the second wave to be August...

We’re in England and it isn’t the holidays here. We break up tomorrow officially.

I think the phrase plan for the worst hope for the best springs to mind.

Schools have not got any more of an idea of when they are reopening than anyone else, they are just making sensible contingency plans for september.

It does not have to be an all or nothing approach anyway. Pupils may go back earlier but part time to limit numbers or things might happen differently by geography e.g. London go back later.

The government will not want to push a big wave of new cases to next winter by having everyone all go back in september.

3luckystars · 02/04/2020 13:06

There is absolutely no chance of this.

Exactly, my teacher told me and she was told my someone high up . Hmm then when we want to keep a open mind a email is produced that just says prepare for September . That is not definite and tbh teachers or anyone shouldn't be giving you a date because they don't know .
Look all we know for definitely is that lockdown is 3 weeks then it will be reviewed that's a fact after that is pure speculation.
Tbh I don't think this will all be sorted by September and I don't know how anyone else can hazard a guess .
I suppose it's human nature so we can plan ahead but we can't plan as we don't know . I'd just take it a week at a time otherwise you are going to be very disappointed.

WotnoPasta · 02/04/2020 13:39

I know an executive headteacher who oversees 6 schools. He doesn’t know anything yet.

Selfisolationquery · 02/04/2020 13:41

Oh, sorry. I thought I saw a post somewhere saying the kids were on their easter holidays already so I just assumed that was the case for all of England. I'm not based in England and know sometimes the dates are different.

I think the phrase plan for the worst hope for the best springs to mind.

That sounds about right.

We’ve been told not to expect to be back at school until September BUT...

This is not a guarantee.

This is only to ensure we plan sufficiently for the longer term and don’t just think that rubbishy bits of work sent to pupils will tide us over short term. Schools want distance learning to be meaningful and appropriate and the only way to do this, is to somehow make a temporary curriculum of it, rather than just upload in dribs and drabs.

We don’t KNOW a return to school will be September and we hope it will be sooner. But there is nothing to do but wait and see.

fatimashortbread · 08/04/2020 09:08

First Minister in Scotland has indicated that schools are unlikely to go back until the start of the next academic year which is August

user1471507460 · 08/04/2020 09:12

Schools are still open to children of key workers and the vulnerable.

Rocketmam · 08/04/2020 09:14

March.

HoffiCoffi13 · 08/04/2020 09:16

March?

Davincitoad · 08/04/2020 09:22

Another schools one. Are people hoping someone is going to say yes they are opening soon! FGS a school is so unsafe it’s unreal. If you want your kids and the staff to become a statistic then fine. Social distancing is impossible in a school therefore kids will all be at risk. As soon as numbers start to rise again teachers will get sick so staffing levels will decline. Coupled with that the staff shielding will affect staffing more. Also some staff will most likely refuse as I we don’t wish to be a statistic as part of the second wave. Why is everyone fixated on schools? Yes it’s awful but the whole fucking situation is awful. Whoever above said the germs are ‘not likely to be a deadly virus’ must be having a laugh. Why would anyone want to put their kids anywhere near a potential deadly virus????!

Davincitoad · 08/04/2020 09:24

If the first thing to do is reopen schools after lockdown then they may as well just open everything. Parents can’t go to the shops but their kids have been mingling with hundreds of kids daily and bringing it home. These studies seem to be set up to try and generate evidence to open them for the economy. Not for safety.

WanderingLost167 · 08/04/2020 09:29

There's a research report though out suggesting schoo lclosures impact infections only slightly, so there may be a government move to reconsider
