Woman on Facebook asking if she can take her toddler to the supermarket because he’s going stir crazy at home because he’s been stuck in for a week with BRONCHITIS. Fuck me. I usually hold my tongue but I couldn’t help myself.

Wow im sure people are stupid how do they not see how bad this is?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/04/2020 19:32

I don’t know what you mean, @Bienentrinkwasser! Are you suggesting that it might not be a fine idea to take a child with a nasty respiratory infection to somewhere where he might pick up another nasty respiratory infection? Wink

Soubriquet · 01/04/2020 19:34

Wow that’s bad!

My dd got hospitalised with bronchitis at 13 months and needed oxygen and IV antibiotics.

I wouldn’t dream of taking a sick child out in a pandemic

Bienentrinkwasser · 01/04/2020 19:39

I just don’t even know what goes through your head. Loads of comments like ‘it’s fine hun, you could put the rain cover on the buggy’... what is the actual point in taking him there then? He is not gaining anything from the experience!

That is peak stupidity. You got that right. I agree the toddler could pick something else up.
But the toddler with bronchitis could also infect and sicken innocent people at the supermarket. An elderly person could catch bronchitis and that weaken them so they can’t fight of CV.

Hannah021 · 01/04/2020 19:45

Lol

Menora · 01/04/2020 19:46

I had to drive somewhere earlier which was work related

And drove past about 7 mums with lots of DC heading to the local shops
I am avoiding the local shops as it is full of small kids!

maddiemookins16mum · 01/04/2020 19:51

I pass groups of mums on their morning stroll to the local Coop every morning to get the kids their sweets.

Shitfuckoh · 01/04/2020 19:53

@Menora were they actually going in to the shops or just heading that way? If you saw me with my kids today, you'd see us heading in the direction of the shops but we didn't go in any at all. We were on our daily walk, seeing signs of spring - part of the school work!

Kids aren't allowed in shops round here.

Lenmaw · 01/04/2020 19:55

Thank goodness you didn't hold your tongue!

bigchris · 01/04/2020 19:59

It's easy to look down on people

Maybe she doesn't watch the news , maybe she is a lone parent and needs food and can't get a delivery slot

At least she asked and didn't just go ahead

Remember #bekind?

What sort of 'couldn't help myself ' response did you give her ?

gamerchick · 01/04/2020 20:05

I'm.getting really fed up of that be kind crap on every thread like its some sort of finger wag. Hmm

She's an idiot, you don't take a kid with that kind of illness to a supermarket where another type of illness that could kill you could be lingering. You can't sugar coat that shit. Hmm

zombieapocalypseisnigh · 01/04/2020 20:05

She knows ... that's why she's 'asking' ... looking for validation from her probably equally dim self centred friends.

she should be told to suck it up, parenting is hard sometimes, this is one of those times. Stay home.

Menora · 01/04/2020 20:17

Yes they were all going into the shops.

blacksax · 01/04/2020 20:17

It's easy to look down on people

It would certainly be easy to look down on the fuckwits, I agree.

H1978 · 01/04/2020 20:19

Some people shouldn’t have children Angry what utter stupidity!

PavlovaTescobar · 01/04/2020 20:19

Why all the hatred to people taking children to shops. Seems to be a regular thing on Mumsnet at the moment I expect that most people take them because they have no choice.

Menora · 01/04/2020 20:26

Kids in buggies I can understand
But yesterday I had to go to get milk and bread and many children not holding hands or with their parent were running around all over the place
I have kids. And either I would have strapped them into the car with a death stare or used the death stare in the shop

lazyarse123 · 01/04/2020 20:33

I work in a shop and yesterday a mum came with 3 kids, fair enough they weren't old enough to be left outside. But each one kept picking things up and putting them back while deciding what they wanted. I did quietly ask her to stop them and explained why. She looked at me like i'd got two heads. I don't know what it will take for some people to understand. I despair.

LastTrainEast · 01/04/2020 20:33

Though I hate the idea of children in the shops you can't just leave little ones at home.
Perhaps those mums were planning to take turns watching the kids outside while the others went in. That would work since most places seem to be limiting numbers inside anyway.

Kungfupanda67 · 01/04/2020 20:38

@LastTrainEast that wouldn’t work though because you’re not meant to be mixing with people outside of your own household.

Hollyhobbi · 01/04/2020 20:41

Is she sure the child has bronchitis?

stairgates · 01/04/2020 20:44

Imagine being little and having bronchitis and CV:( I am truly sad for that kid.

Fedupofdoingit · 01/04/2020 20:44

@LastTrainEast “Perhaps those mums were planning to take turns watching the kids outside while the others went in.”

What part of Social Distancing, and not meeting up with people who don’t live in the same house as you, don’t you get??

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 01/04/2020 20:49

She doesn't even know that he has bronchitis. It could equally be COVID. He won't have had a test so how could she know?

Ultimately, it's a new cough, she should be isolating for fourteen days.
