Taking into account how YOU see the situation, when do YOU personally believe we will start returning to normal?

Just that really. When do YOU personally think restrictions will start to be lifted? Schools going back? Travel resumed? Etc.

I think schools will be back in August (Scotland) I can't see the Scottish government keeping them closed for an extra three weeks so all schools can open in September . Sure the kids would love that though .

MarshaBradyo · 03/04/2020 03:39

Oxana that all makes sense in that article, a very hard decision. A lot of countries will be in the same boat.

NemophilistRebel · 03/04/2020 03:53

Wistfully thinks back to last Christmas and worries this Christmas will be very very different Sad

TestBank · 03/04/2020 07:37

I wonder if Boris is having a rethink on the 7 day after symptoms start end of quarantine rule. He still looks quite ill.

TreeTopTim · 03/04/2020 07:44

@elprup I'm not so sure about that, a lot of people won't have the money to go out to cafes, restaurants, pubs, shop for non essentials. We are heading for a recession.

Davincitoad · 03/04/2020 07:52

I assume everyone saying that they are bored are lockdown can’t continue so we should just all go back to normal either have not lost anyone, or have missed the posts on giant ducking field hospitals being set up. So presumably we just play pot luck then and let everyone get sick/some die? Wtf

Mascotte · 03/04/2020 07:59

@Davincitoad I’m not bored, I’m lonely; have lots of other worries, from which I have no distractions; one of these is a health investigation put on hold; my dc is sad and away from any kids; I now have no job so no income; and can’t see my partner. What will be left in the world if this goes on? People can’t live with no money.

Gin96 · 03/04/2020 08:09

How on earth can we stay in lockdown until we find a vaccine, at the earliest that will be 18 months? It will be manageable for 6 months at the most, society will really break down after that, no money, no food, no hope and for 80 to 95% of people only getting mild symptoms! the benefits from lockdown would no longer apply, life would be much worse for the majority.

Davincitoad · 03/04/2020 08:13

If this doesn’t go on what will be left of this world? If the government had dealt with it properly before it got too bad maybe this wouldn’t be happening. I catastrophise a lot and I’m seeing this as the end of the world as we know it as in this will continue but lead to the end of society as we know it. I am also waiting for a follow up ultrasound and knowing I won’t have it is scaring me to tears daily.

Gin96 · 03/04/2020 08:21

I don’t think we should give up yet, I don’t think the end of the world has arrived for the human race yet. The good news is most of us will get it mildly, life will go on and needs to go on.

Gin96 · 03/04/2020 08:24

@Davincitoad we all loose people every day before the coronvirus, life still had to carry on.

Esspee · 03/04/2020 08:30

Return to normal? Never I’m afraid.

Return to some semblance of normality? Perhaps 3-6 months.

SpyApp · 03/04/2020 08:32

Properly normal - after vaccination if one can be found.
As normal as possible if no vaccine is effective - 2 years.

Gin96 · 03/04/2020 08:41

Don’t hold out for a vaccine for at least 18 months, life will be back to normal long before that.

Sounsociable · 03/04/2020 09:03

@elprupI'm not so sure about that, a lot of people won't have the money to go out to cafes, restaurants, pubs, shop for non essentials. We are heading for a recession.

This was the 2nd part of my same post, (lots of people with way less money for luxuries) plus the cafes, businesses and shops will need the money to get started again. Although the gov are paying the 80% wages , the employer pays first and then reclaims. So might not then have money to buy food/materials/pay full wages to start up again straight away.

Dongdingdong · 03/04/2020 09:19

Return to normal? Never I’m afraid.

Hmm Stop being so dramatic. We returned to normal after the Spanish Flu and the Second World War FFS, both of which were far more devastating situations than this.

Gin96 · 03/04/2020 09:27

@Dongdingdong I agree 😊 life will carry on and get back to normal, it’s like some people on here want everyone in lockdown forever.

BettyOBarley · 03/04/2020 09:49

I think if they are now expecting the peak around Easter, schools may go back at the beginning of June - especially if they are expecting another peak/lockdown in winter I can't see them keeping schools off for another few months after the first peak until Sept just to close them again soon after. I think they cancelled the exams because of the learning they are missing out on now, not necessarily because schools will still be closed.

So if schools opened in June, people can then start going back to work - that can't happen before, who would look after the kids if schools were shut - but keep some social distancing like we started out with and no mass gatherings etc until next year.

Obviously I have no clue really, I work for the LEA and even higher up no one there has any clue when schools will go back either.

Happ1ymum · 03/04/2020 09:52

Davincitoad I am so sorry to hear that you can't get the ultrasound you need. I know how frightening this can be, especially when you have a child to worry about. Hopefully we will be out of the worst in a couple of months. I am sending you a huge hug.

Appuskidu · 03/04/2020 09:54

I don’t see how you can open schools and still ban mass gatherings. There are 2700 pupils in our local schools and hundreds of teachers/support staff/site/catering staff-they are packed in like sardines.

Mascotte · 03/04/2020 09:56

I think because school is necessary to get things back to normal but social events not?

And schools in other countries have been shown but to be a major infection risk

fivesecondrule · 03/04/2020 09:58

May/ early June for me. the lockdown was implemented to reduce the curve to lessen the burden on the NHS not to stop every single one of us getting it. Once all the nightingale hospitals are rolled out, more ventilators arrive and better testing gets underway and cases start to drop they'll start to lift the lockdown measures and get people back to work. It's not feasible to keep us locked in until a vaccine is approved and by that point there'd be no money to buy it anyway.

MrsL2016 · 03/04/2020 09:59

I don't see how people can return to work before the schools and nurseries reopen. People suggesting September for Schools, that means a huge section of the workforce can't return to work until then. Also it would mean a second peak in winter, which needs to be avoided due to the strain it will put on the nhs. The PP who said the peak is 12-14 weeks away and cited quotes from the CMO from several weeks ago. That was before lockdown and the estimate if we continued with the social distancing measures that were in place at that time. Now we are in lockdown they are expecting a peak around Easter. I expect the current level of lockdown to last a total of 6-9 weeks and I think schools need to reopen sooner than September. Obviously no expert but the op did ask.
