Taking into account how YOU see the situation, when do YOU personally believe we will start returning to normal?

Just that really. When do YOU personally think restrictions will start to be lifted? Schools going back? Travel resumed? Etc.

@Hydradance - large internationally attended festivals being cancelled is as much about the organisers not being able / wanting to commit to further financial input when there’s still uncertainty generally, but definite uncertainty about when international travel will start going ahead again. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re expecting the UK to still be on full lockdown in the summer; but they do know that they won’t get their usual international patronage. Am involved with organising a major festival, this is our reasoning for cancellation - it doesn’t mean we believe we’ll all be indoors for months.

bluetongue · 01/04/2020 20:15

Looking at your latest numbers (I’m in Australia) I think the UK is set for a longer lockdown. We’ve been told that Australia is in for a modified version of lockdown to last for up to six months and we only have 21 deaths here. We also have also effectively closed the borders and anyone entering the country is now in Police and army enforced quarantine in hotels.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 01/04/2020 20:52

Looking at the new figures I can't see this peaking anytime soon sadly.
With a 13 year old dying they're going to keep schools shut down for as long as possible.

teenagetantrums · 01/04/2020 21:01

September maybe. I live near in a seaside town. All holiday parks now rumered to be closed till September. Maybe we will open none essential shops in summer. Not sure about pubs and resurants.

ViciousJackdaw · 01/04/2020 21:02

It'll be a gradual thing - schools back first, allowing parents to return to work. I do think there's a real threat of social unrest if the lockdown we're having now goes on for much longer than six weeks. Boris won't want the proles revolting.

carly2803 · 01/04/2020 21:30

years. literally years. the economy is fucked, we will be in a very deep recession

i think we will be locked down until end of April, then we will lift restrictions too early. I believe lockdown should be like china, we didnt react quick enough in my opinon. So lockdown until mabey mid-end may then slowly start to reintroduce travel/some business, absolutely nothing abroad.

what i hope? We re-open schools in september, unis etc,
bars/clubs/pubs mabey slightly before - august ?
at the earliest

if we have to lockdown again i do believe it will be jan next year wewill all be in isolation again = i think we will have a 2nd lockdown

sorry for the crap grammar

Toddlerteaplease · 01/04/2020 21:32

Start of May to be allowed out again. Schools back mid May/June.

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 01/04/2020 21:47

I’m not sure to be honest but hopefully it won’t be too long before DH can go back to his work as a structural engineer for agricultural buildings etc which can’t be done at home, he is on 80% pay at the moment which is better than nothing and they have loads of work on that needs done but the company can’t have no work being done indefinitely and farmers need their lambing and milking sheds

WeArnottamused · 01/04/2020 21:49

When they have a vaccine, & know who has or hasn’t had it

BlackandWhiteCat0 · 01/04/2020 21:51

Not this year anyway

Atla · 01/04/2020 22:04

I really don't know. I think it might vary according to where you are in the country - different areas will peak at different times and be better or worse in terms of numbers of cases etc. This is a new virus, no one knows how it will behave or what will happen.

Anecdotally, teachers I know are not expecting schools to reopen before September. I am a nurse and staff in the hospital I work in have been told to expect redeployments to be for 6 months at least, also taking us to September.

megletthesecond · 01/04/2020 22:26

Lockdown finishing in June. Schools back in Sept. Big events back on next year.
I'm happy working from home if it means we're healthy. I was struggling being outside two weeks ago.

BilboBercow · 01/04/2020 22:43

I think itll be a long process. I think we'll see SOME restrictions starting to lift at the end of May and it'll be a gradual thing. Schools will probably not go back until after the summer and we'll be almost be back to normal completely then however if there's another wave... who knows?

Someonesayroadtrip · 01/04/2020 22:44

I agree with those saying September. I do think there will be some relaxations before then, more shops perhaps but a semi lockdown until September with the possibility of another lockdown after that if there is a sudden second wave. I would like to think there will be more businesses allowed at some point and I guess in a way we need a small increase after the worse of it, so that we steadily get it. I think the most vulnerable may be on lockdown much longer than September though which is a horrendous thing to think about.

As for as recovering our economy though, I think it's going to be a difficult time for the world for quite a long time. It's definitely a pivotal time in human existence.

I guess my hope is though that a vaccine is developed by the summer and things can move on much quicker then.

MrsFezziwig · 01/04/2020 23:00

Not at all an answer to OP’s question, but if the supermarket I went to today was anything to go by I wouldn’t mind them maintaining the current protocols forever. Really calm and organised, shoppers getting what they needed quickly and efficiently, no unruly groups treating it like a day out... I’d love food shopping to continue to stop being a leisure activity.

tigerbear · 01/04/2020 23:02

Everything on here is pure speculation, no one has a fucking clue, really!

JosephineKarlsson · 02/04/2020 00:45

Everything on here is pure speculation, no one has a fucking clue, really!

We are all virologists, epidemiologists and economists now Grin

EasyTarget · 02/04/2020 00:49

Is there a sweepstake? I'm gonna have a punt on June, for economic reasons.
I actually don't think even the powers that be know, it's all just wait and see.

tigerbear · 02/04/2020 09:21

@JosephineKarlsson I know, everyone seems to be some kind of armchair expert! 😂

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 02/04/2020 09:25

Well considering he OP asked people to basically speculate you can't be that surprised the thread is full of speculation can you?

Quartz2208 · 02/04/2020 09:50

We will see out this peak on lockdown then once that is over and we have set up the hospital (Nightingales) testing facilities and morgues we will start back life again with this hanging over us because that is the plan. If things start ramping up and it’s clear we need to suppress again we will

It won’t be normal because it will be hanging over people that they could get it for awhile (until vaccine) and there will be times not much is about (see previous pandemics) but NO Governments plan is to sit this entire thing out on lockdown. They will expect us to live with the idea of potentially getting it

Oscarsdaddy · 02/04/2020 17:41

Boris said he would review lockdown every 3 weeks, first review due Easter Monday

I would expect it will be extended on the suggestion that it’s working for a further 3 weeks. That takes us to Monday May 4th

I would then think a further 3 weeks be implemented until Monday May 25th and that will be 9 weeks or 2 months of lockdown

By this time I would hope that numbers of new cases have dropped significantly and deaths are down in the 10’s or 20’s per day

If that happens I would expect shops can re-open but not pubs, restaurants, etc..... I wouldn’t think they’d be allowed to open until end of June at the earliest

Schools will not return until September. It’ll be a strange Summer but so e kind of normal life with kids at school, sports back up and running, pubs, cinemas and restaurants open again by September

I have no knowledge of any of this, just pure guesses

tulipbuttercup · 02/04/2020 17:45

I’ve heard schools are not fully preparing for return to normality until after the October holidays

Localocal · 02/04/2020 17:45

September. But some things will never go back to how they were.
