Do you think it will take a few years to recover at least when this is over?

And also some shares we have are worth nothing at the moment which is pretty crap. We paid $16 a share and they are $1 at the moment .

Thankfully it hasn’t affected us financially at all. We’ve had to cancel a holiday (were meant to fly out tomorrow) but we’ll get that refunded at some point, both dh and I are key workers so still in stable employment and thankfully we’ve both been put on slightly reduced hours so we can work it around childcare but both still on full pay.

I feel very, very fortunate that we can still pay the mortgage and bills without any worries and thank our lucky stars that we’re some of the privileged few who haven’t been affected financially. We’re not well off by any means but we have enough which puts us in a much more fortunate position than many others and I am truly grateful.

Both still working at the moment so no impact on our monthly outgoings as of yet. I realise we are very fortunate in that respect. DH is keyworker so job relatively secure, but not so sure how long mine will realistically go on before the work dries up.

Longer term - it has wiped a massive amount off the value of our share save scheme - trying not to think about that too much or I might cry!

Pension fund been hammered (lost 22% in 4 weeks). Other than that, ok. If anything I will probably spend a lot less if no holidays and nothing to spend money on.

Short term I'm marginally better off as not spending as much/no travel costs.

Longer term I'm hoping my company will still need me. They provide services to a range of clients/industries so at least not all eggs in one basket, but if we all go down....

Daffie19 · 31/03/2020 20:07

It hasn't at all.
We are very lucky, as I know many are struggling!
I'm a nurse, so safe to say my job is safe!
And DH has had a bad 18 months with his health (finally getting right and ready to work again), so we've been on universal credit for about 8 months now, as he was deemed limited capability to work.
So he's at home looking after our 18 month old, while I'm in the hospital working!

Soontobe60 · 31/03/2020 20:17

I suppose we are better off ATM as DH is working overtime. His company make laundry supplies for hospitals, plus body bags. They can't take on new people as they need very skilled, experienced staff for the moment. I retired at Christmas so my income is fixed.
We are spending more on food, but saving on petrol, going out, socialising and me spending far too much on my grandson. I've upped my donations to the local food bank and homeless charity.

Fucked ... Both self employed in Italy and we have no income whatsoever . We can apply for €600 tomorrow that will be a shit fight trying to get even to register so don't hold out much hope. After lockdown I expect no work until possibly next year and neither will dh ..
