Remember when we lost our collective shit about stockpiling?

Turns out it was us

Shortages in the shops were mostly caused by everyone buying a very little more, not hoarders buying large amounts, according to Kantar.

Ha ha no not going through peoples bins but I do go for early morning runs and peoples bind are more full (understandably) more full than usual and there are bins u can see with some food wastage.

I dont believe what the media puts out, they are very shrewd in the images they put out there and only report what they want to

Just in time supply chain (so ships don’t stock huge amounts of food themselves)
Global supply chain (lorries now bring stopped at borders)
30% of food bought out the home normally via wholesale routes
A move towards people shopping for smaller amounts every few days and not the big weekly shop

So when we started to do 2 weekly shops for 100% of the food from a supermarket , when the supply chain was slower - it couldn’t cope.

It really wasn’t hoarding overload and saying it was didn’t help.

@Verily1 I agree.
@Wehttam I did exactly the same, starting with brexit prepping and continuing due to news coming in from China.
If the likes of me saw it coming, the govt and other people could have done too.
Have also helped friends and donated to foodbank .
And I wasn't in the shops adding to shortages this last month.

People who prepared early aren't all miserable hoarders.

Is no-one else struggling to figure out exactly what their family needs for a week, with no top ups? I am so used to just popping out for the little bits I've missed. I'm overbuying on some things, and underbuying on others. I totally underestimated our milk consumption (kids usually have breakfast at their grandparents) and over estimated our bread consumption (thought we would eat more sandwiches for lunch). I very quickly ran out of mixed peppers and cucumber, but have an unopened pack of carrots.

I totally underestimated the chocolate biscuits! Grin

I never noticed anyone piling their trolleys high.
I could see people carefully thinking about what they might need.
Up until the Wednesday before lockdown (which is the last time I've been in a shop, as we stopped any unnecessary trips from them) I was able to get everything I needed in Tesco, while Lidl looked well picked over but still had plenty on the shelves..
By that time I was expecting empty shelves and chaos going by the news reports and was amazed to see how normal things were.

I would think supermarkets still have a lot of catching up with peerless new habits to do as they go from shopping every few days to running things down and then having to stock right back up again.
