When do you honestly think it will happen? And when do you want it to happen?!

How is it that everyone seems to know someone senior in the army/royal family/civil service etc who is happy to share information that isn’t in the public domain?

AtseneGatnalp · 31/03/2020 22:41

Where would MN be without people who have pie in the sky things "on good authority"?

Let's wait and see what actually happens, shall we?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/03/2020 22:44

I’m sure many teachers would rather be at home with their own family

And not being put in a situation where they are more at risk that they then take home

SpokeTooSoon · 31/03/2020 22:45

GAT333 is your source called Jon Snow by any chance?

Because I think they know nothing.

GAT333 · 31/03/2020 22:47

Don’t believe it then Purple. Up to you. This person is in my family and close to government. I’d plan for that though if I were you.

Pomegranatepompom · 31/03/2020 22:48

I'd beet most healthcare and other essential workers would rather be at home as well rather than putting themselves at a greater risk.

Pomegranatepompom · 31/03/2020 22:48

*I'm sure

PurpleDaisies · 31/03/2020 22:49

Yes, I’m obviously going to take the word of some random poster I know nothing about.

blue25 · 31/03/2020 22:50

Expect it to be September.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/03/2020 22:59

And those that work on the front line rightly are getting the recognition they should and us others in the nhs who are not at the same risks are also getting recognition

We greatly appreciate that

But so are many others still working still having to put themselves at a higher risk and that is taken home and they to are are doing a fantastic job teachers shouldn’t be overlooked in this

Pomegranatepompom · 31/03/2020 23:02

I dint think anyone is overlooking the teachers - that message is being sent loud and clear.

StormyClouds · 31/03/2020 23:04

I certainly hope the lockdown doesn't last until easter- that would almost certainly result in more indirect deaths through recession and mental health issues than those killed by the virus itself.

I also worry about what we are doing to our young people- their future is effectively being destroyed.

fedup21 · 31/03/2020 23:10

I certainly hope the lockdown doesn't last until easter

Easter isn’t very far away!!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/03/2020 23:16

Why do you think more deaths will be caused through mental health than the virus

Humans are incredibly resilient and adaptable even those that do struggle with their mental health

girlicorne · 01/04/2020 00:25

I would love to think after May half term or later in June, but realistically I think probably September. My two are missing their friends and actually missing school and DS is complaining he is nt learning anything new. I am supporting him with the work school have sent home but a lot of it is consolidation not new stuff and I am desperately tying to WFH to keep my own business afloat so I don't have time to think up engaging lessons for him.

I disagree with cancelling summer holidays though, this is nt a holiday by any stretch of the imagination. My DD 12 (year 7) has been on line having her regular lessons via google classroom 8.40am to 3.45pm every day so it is much like a school day for her. If normal life can resume by the summer I think we all deserve some time off to do the normal fun things. I might be delusional thinking that things will be back to normal that quickly and we can all go off for a jolly to Alton Towers but I am struggling and the thoughts of that are keeping me on track!

Kokeshi123 · 01/04/2020 01:53

Also, we trained to educate, not to help lift the economy over the summer holidays!

Well, I trained as a [insert job description here] and have now been forced to drastically reduce my job hours because of all the hours I am now spending having to teach my own children. I didn't train as a teacher, but I am having to pitch in and do the best job I can. We are all going to have to do some unexpected things over the next few months.

cornishdreams1 · 01/04/2020 06:49

I obviously will not be posting the confidential email sent to me, it will be very outing! You shall have to take my word for it or choose to disbelieve it if that suits you better, it is rather irrelevant to me.

Our school will aim to open early June, and once the easter holidays have ended we will have more clarity regarding coronavirus.

There will be huge pressure if lets imagine we do not open in June, to reopen all schools in July and August instead. Especially given the fact we are expecting the virus to return later in the year. So for those of us that are teaching you may want to factor that into your holiday plans.

Eggcited · 01/04/2020 06:50

I certainly hope the lockdown doesn't last until easter

Easter is only just over a week away. Confused

CarlottaValdez · 01/04/2020 06:53

I have had it on good authority today from someone senior in the Civil Service,

Like all those posters who’s sons and husbands had special inside military info and assured us that the army would be setting up roadblocks?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 01/04/2020 07:14

I wouldn’t be surprised if schools change term times this year due to concerns that we may have to repeat lock down later in the year

It’s unlikely we shall be traveling

We have already been told by Deputy chief medical officer Dr Jenny Harries normality could be six months away or even longer the aim is to gradually pace the return to keep us all safe

Tunnocks34 · 01/04/2020 08:05

As a school, we have absolutely zilch idea what’s happening. Our head has asked us to give up our holidays, all of them, on the provision we work on a rolling rota which all teachers have agreed to. This means that we don’t get any ‘holidays’ instead we work one day a week in school until the school re opens.

We’re planning for September but this is a random Stan in the dark. I am hoping end of June/start of July personally as I have two primary school children who I’d love to get back in.

CallmeAngelina · 01/04/2020 08:06

So, we have one poster here who has it on good authority from her Head Teacher that they will be re-opening in June, and another who has it on good authority from someone close to government that we won't be anywhere near back to normal even by September.
Gosh, it's almost as if no one has any idea!

Tunnocks34 · 01/04/2020 08:06

We do have to work from home everyday though - although this often doesn’t mean sitting working, rather responding to emails as and when.

PurpleDaisies · 01/04/2020 08:12

We do have to work from home everyday though - although this often doesn’t mean sitting working, rather responding to emails as and when.

Aren’t you doing all the jobs there’s never any time to do? Scheme of work writing, resource making etc? You’re getting paid a full wage.

cornishdreams1 · 01/04/2020 08:18

callme We have been told to plan to reopen in June, after the half term, as it is a boarding school as well we will need to ensure the houses are ready, catering etc. That is the plan for our school, but PHE will have the final say on the actual date closer to the time, as was the case with closure.

We are working on reasonable assumptions that the virus will be in retreat by then, and the summer months will offer a window of opportunity. There is some talk of summer holidays being used to catch up too.
