Weight gain or loss?

GemmaTellerMorrow · 30/03/2020 08:25

Just pondering, how much do you think your weight will alter over the next few weeks?

I'm in the gain camp. I'm menopausal, less active than usual, and eating more processed food, not a good combination.

Friends with young kids are saying they're losing weight already, a mix of running around after the children, and also cutting back on their own food to make sure the family are fed.

I'm trying hard to stay the same. Staying out of the fridge is the hardest thing about being stuck in the house for me.

Thedogshow · 30/03/2020 11:25

I’m exercising lots (30 minute run outside, lots of running around in garden with children, housework, weights workout daily) but also eating LOADS. I’m normally a size 10, but creeping up towards a 12. I find it impossible not to snack when I’m bored in the house and making lots of meals for 3 children.
Most of what I’m eating is quite healthy, just more than I would normally during working week when I’m quite careful.
And also glass of wine every night and chocolate. So I reckon I’ll gain several pounds during lockdown.

Thedogshow · 30/03/2020 11:30

In case anyone is interested (you can tell I’m bored). Pre lockdown diet (size 10, BMI 22):
Yoghurt, fresh fruit, mixed seeds
Takeaway flat white
Large salad or small sandwich
Small bit of chocolate
Snack:hummus and veg, piece of cheese
Dinner: chicken with rice and veg
Packet of malteasers
Small glass of wine 3/4 nights a week
Lockdown diet:
Breakfast: same as before
Homemade coffee
Snack: cheese, crackers and apple
Cup of tea and biscuit
Lunch: toasted sandwich
Tea and biscuits
Snack:fruit and cheese again
Kids tea time: leftovers and toast
Dinner: big plate of pasta
Chocolate (probably double normal amount)
Always a large glass of wine.
I mean, my lockdown diet is nice. I just will gain weight.

Thedogshow · 30/03/2020 11:31

It’s probably only an extra 300-400 kcals but enough to go from steady weight to weight gain. Nightmare!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 30/03/2020 11:31

Well I've already put on a few pounds out of comfort eating... something I am unfortunately rather good at and my go to dysfunctional stress reliever.

Trying to take them off now so hopefully down!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/03/2020 11:32

I do a weekly weigh-in, and have stayed the same thus far. I am usually really active at work (about 18000 steps a day, walking to and from, then on my feet teaching) and that has dropped right down.

I am sticking to three meals a day, where I would usually have a snack in the morning at least, but I am having more wine, so...

Mauhea · 30/03/2020 11:33

I've been with Slimming World since the start of the year and am sticking to the plan as much as possible! 4lb loss in the first week (which got me halfway to target weight!) and a maintain last week. Hoping now I've settled in to the new routine and getting on top of under-eating the losses will continue. The temptation to comfort eat is VERY strong though, especially with Easter chocolate being rolled out despite all that's going on!

BarbaraofSeville · 30/03/2020 11:35

I'm hoping to lose a little or at least not gain, as I'm trying to use the 90 mins a day I save by not commuting to have a walk or run, while we're still allowed to do that.

I'm also eating less because there's always cake on the go at work, and I'm able to eat when I'm actually hungry, rather than trying to fit in food at times dictated by travelling/commute.

So I'm able to have a decent hot protein filled brunch mid morning, light snack early afternoon and a normal dinner, rather than early breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner.

BluSky5 · 30/03/2020 11:39

Probably going to stay the same. I lose weight when I go to work due to feeling stressed and unsafe there. Make a conscious effort to refuel on my days off. Usually a big food lover although trying to keep it healthy.

LaneBoy · 30/03/2020 11:47

I was losing slowly (less than 1lb a week average) and steadily since January (finally getting my ADHD treated has meant I don’t crave sugar hits etc) and for most of that wasn’t exercising much due to a flare up of health issues. So I’m hoping that can continue.

I’ve had (potentially) the virus - the first week I lost over 5lb as couldn’t eat without pain. Really want to get stronger again and be able to use my daily outdoor exercise allowance. Till then I’ve dug the exercise bike out.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 30/03/2020 13:06

I’ve been eating a ridiculous number of snacks and having a glass or two of wine every evening. I definitely feel fatter already. I’m going to try sticking to 3 meals a day and only having cups of tea in between, and not drinking until Friday.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 30/03/2020 13:24

I'm also eating less because there's always cake on the go at work, and I'm able to eat when I'm actually hungry, rather than trying to fit in food at times dictated by travelling/commute.

I think that is the case for me.

I am also sleeping later. So instead of being hungry at 9am-ish. I am getting hungry at around 11am. At 11 I can wait until lunch.

I am eating a proper decent lunch so not hungry for a big meal in the evening.

Janaih · 30/03/2020 14:18

I dont weigh but estimate I've put on half a stone in the past week. This week looks like the same will happen, although I am getting a bit bored of the evening wine.

Lifeaback · 30/03/2020 14:25

I’m definitely feeling the effects of last week- far less active than usual (usually at the gym 5 mornings a week and live in London so do a lot of walking), a lot more wine than usual, did some baking with the kids so ate a lot of sweet stuff and have definitely been comfort eating.

I think as this becomes a more normal way of life things will even out though. I ordered some weights on amazon which arrived on Saturday so this morning did a home workout in the garden and I intend on being much stricter with how much I drink/snack this week. I’m also hoping that not having access to my usual lunch break restaurants/cafes and the office biscuit supply might have a positive effect!

AwkwardSquad · 30/03/2020 14:28

Gaining so far, because of comfort eating and significant drop in exercise levels. I can stand to gain a few pounds but will have to get myself under control sharpish or it will be rather more than a few! I usually walk a lot and I’m missing it.

whatagonnahappennow · 30/03/2020 14:34

I've been self isolating for nearly weeks. My DD had a temperature and was unable to got to school a week before lockdown. I usually work in an office 5 days a well and do a spin class three times a week. Obviously ally that went to pot.

First week I ate out of boredom and was drinking a lot more wine. I don't normally drink in the week.

I could feel the weight slamming on to be honest, my jeans were getting so tight! I've reined it in now, no drinking in the week, eating a lot better - not as good as I was, but better.

I've also been getting up on a morning and doing 30 mins of HIIT from videos i find on a YouTube. I do the exercise more for the mental health boost, but it does make a difference.

lubeybooby · 30/03/2020 14:37

steady so far despite a few extra snacks but I haven't exercised at all so quite lucky there. I'm giving myself one more week of being a baffled slob and then I need to get a grip

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/03/2020 14:37

I saw a meme on FB that said:

I am either going to come out of lockdown 20lb lighter, with a number of completed craft projects and my chakras fully balanced, or 20lb heavier, with a drink problem!

I am working on the craft projects (I sorted out my yarn yesterday), and am not drinking too much (yet) - but am eating way too much. Sad

AudaCityLimits · 30/03/2020 14:47

I am losing very, very quickly. The anxiety of this, plus finding dodgy texts on DP's phone the Sunday before lockdown, has triggered my eating disorder something awful. Haven't got scales because of the ED, but estimate about a stone gone in 8 days. Sad

AuntieMarys · 30/03/2020 14:48

Loss. I am exercising for 2 hours a day and being careful about food. I never buy biscuits, chocolate or cake anyway.
I'm more conscious about staying healthy.

EnormousDormouse · 30/03/2020 20:58

I've lost just under 2kg (I was already at my 'target' weight) even though the booze consumption went up temporarily. I am trying to run every other day at (I HATE running) but am really worried about losing tone and strength in my arms and core as I can't be arsed to do plank and burpees etc etc without an instructor shouting at me.

Bluewavescrashing · 30/03/2020 21:02

I've lost a bit. No appetite due to stress the last few days. I did have pizza tonight but didn't overeat.

Trying to make food stretch a bit longer by having smaller portions.

AbsentmindedWoman · 30/03/2020 21:11

Losing. I am eating regularly, but have no real appetite apart from maybe once or twice a week. So overall intake less than my normal.

To properly enjoy eating delicious food I need to be relaxed.

Siameasy · 30/03/2020 21:22

I hope to stay around the same. I had put on a little bit over winter but still within healthy BMI
The thing is this extra walking and exercise videos are making me more hungry!
Then if I feel jaded stuck indoors with DD I get the urge to nick a few of her crisps 😭

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 30/03/2020 22:45

@AudaCityLimits Are you able to talk to anyone about it? That must be really worrying, especially if you’re relapsing from a period of having it under control. They do counselling sessions online - it might help if you talk to someone about it? You need your body and mind to be strong - you are bigger than it. You’ll get through it. Hope you’re ok x ps. Have you tried thinking of yourself as two separate people; future and present self? Think of your future self as a person who you need to look after and help, and think how your present self can help that person. Your present self can help your future self by being in charge of whatever ED you have, and tackling it head on. Worth a try.
