Anyone else got raging hayfever?

BendyLikeBeckham · 29/03/2020 17:23

I am sneezing all day, swollen eyes, mild sore throat, runny nose, earache in one ear, awful headache first thing in the morning.

Taking antihistamine daily, which does help but not 100%.

Every time I sneeze always 6 times in a row I'm paranoid I might have/be spreading the virus. Stupid really. But people look at me with horror!

I don't remember having it this early in the year before. It usually hits with grass cutting season.

Oh yes. The past couple of days have been really bad.

I am so glad I got the mega anti histamines from the gp before all this got too bad. Eye drops and nasal spray on top are making it manageable - just.

I'm far worse this year, I'm not sure if it's because (I've moved) I'm near a specific tree that's setting me off or the c19 virus is aggravating it (I've had a variety of random symptoms accredited to c19). Of course every symptom I've had could be hay fever combined with menopause!

I take a daily anti histamine too. Get horrendous hay fever with bad wheezing, hives and sinus problems for the last few years - never had it before .
Do you guys prefer certrizine or loratadine ?

Does anyone know what the active ingredient is in the prescribed GP antihistamines?
Trying pirinese spray here - good reviews online.

Yep bad hay fever. I feel awful. Seems worse this spring than previous years

Me. Trying not to scratch my eyes out. Started last week and worse than last year. Always been a tree pollen kind of girl! But thankfully by the end of May I'm usually ok cos I'm not a flower pollen kind of girl. I pity the people who are both

@Fidgety31 I prefer certrizine as I find loratadine makes me light headed. I went out in the garden earlier and my eyes were killing me. Unfortunately I can't take the nasal sprays either as they've given me a nosebleed in the past. I'm thinking of trying again though as I'm desperate!

A smear of vaseline in your nose helps a lot.

A couple of months ago I was having a lot of headaches, a runny eye (just the one eye oddly) and nose and thought it was blocked sinuses, but for the last 6 weeks or so the headaches have gone but I’ve been sneezing a lot, have a post nasal drip, and sore throat. I’ve started taking antihistamines and not sneezing as much but the postnasal drip is awful. I’ve also been a bit wheezy at bedtime so think it must be allergy related as I’ve not had to use an inhaler in years (used to use one late teens to late twenties).

I do tend to get runny noses and the bizarre runny one eye... so I’m guessing it’s an allergy but honestly the sneezing was sneeze after sneeze after sneeze and actually hurts my nose and throat as I was sneezing so hard and constantly.

Can the GP prescribe anything better than the over the counter stuff? Think I may need a steroid nasal spray from what I’ve read..

I've been slightly better today - used a cool flannel on my eyes a few times this morning and took my one loratidine, and although I've had a runny tickly nose and itching in my mouth, the eyes have improved a lot. I'm trying not to touch them at all, once I start I wont stop. Has the tree pollen count gone down, or is antihistamine use cumulative?

Yes. Snuffly, itchy eyes, sneezing, tickly throat.

I lightly scratched my arm today where my sleeve was a tiny bit scratchy. THE HIVES!!!!!!!! I came up in huge welts ffs.

Itching, eyes and sinuses are a mare. When I wake up I have to prise my eyes open.

Yes!

I get hayfever as soon as the trees come back to life at the start of March so I've spent weeks with people giving me death stares for being near them ☹

If anyone is suffering badly I would strongly recommend a phone call with your GP. I have had the odd occasion where I have ended up with a completely unexpected allergic reaction to something that I've never reacted to before because of the heightened histamine reaction I get when my hayfever is bad. I already take cetrizine daily because I have a hyperhistaimine reaction to something as simple as itching. If I scratch the itch I can end up with huge welts that don't subside for 24-48hrs. During hayfever season I switch to Fexofenadine and steroid nasal spray (even though the spray tends to make my nose bleed) and I always make sure to have a gel eye mask in the fridge. Some days are so bad that my eyes are glued shut yet feel like the Sahara, so I really feel for anyone who is suffering.

I've heard cloth hankies help as they don't leave fibres in your nose to irritate it. I wax my nostrils too, so no pollen can get stuck to the hairs!

Cooled camomile tea and cotton wool helps eyes too.

Yes and it's really bad this year as well

Report
zafferana · 06/04/2020 21:53

My hayfever hasn't been too bad so far, but I take loratadine, beconase nasal spray and I also use a contact lens friendly eye drops to wash any pollen out. If you go outside for a walk, have a shower, wash your hair and put on clean clothes when you come back in - pollen sticks to your skin, hair, clothes, etc and will go on irritating you all day if not.

Vaseline up the nose and nasal irrigation also helps, even though it can feel like you're rinsing your brain

Mine is terrible too. Itchy sore eyes, sneezing and runny nose the main symptoms. Although I think I’m now allergic to alcohol too which is not good news

My GP recommended using nasal spay at a slight angle pointing outwards if you see what you mean. Less likely to cause bleeding than when you stick it straight up your nostril!! I use acrivastine (Benadryl). Neither ceitrizine or loratadine are effective for me.

My eyes are bad atm and slightly runny nose. I always get hayfever now and in September. Think I have a problem with spores as often worse when it rains
