I have a few supermarkets local to me, asda, tesco, aldi, lidl, m&s food court and sainsburys. Which would be the best to attempt? I really dont want to go but want a decent chance of getting what I need. The last time I went shelves were empty!
I have an online slot booked for friday but hardly anything in stock when I'm trying to add things to my basket. Has anyone been to the supermarket this weekend.. how was it?

I went to Asda early yesterday morning and it was lovely. Quiet, people keeping their distance, lines to show where to queue at the check out. Plus stock was good, even got pasta and loo rolls. So much better than last week.

Els1e · 29/03/2020 08:44

I went to Aldi yesterday and it was fine. They were well organised at managing the numbers in store. Plenty of stock on the shelves.

FishOnPillows · 29/03/2020 08:46

I think it probably depends on your area. By me, Morrison’s constantly has at least a half hour queue to get in (sometimes much more) and still missing some essentials, Sainsbury’s isn’t queuing but not very well stocked still, Aldi has been the best stocked and quietest.

teenagetantrums · 29/03/2020 08:54

Our Lidl is well stocked. Tesco not so much. Can you post on local Facebook group. Ours very good with posting which shops have good stock

AvocadoPrime · 29/03/2020 09:02

Thank you. I dont have facebook. Seems mixed. Tesco is closest to me but that's what was empty last time. I may try aldi first! Last time I went to Aldi I couldnt even get in the carpark!

Lidl is the best for me. Not as long a queue as aldi

fruitpastille · 29/03/2020 09:06

I went on a weekday evening and it was v quiet.

RhymingRabbit3 · 29/03/2020 09:13

Not much point asking on here as you will get mixed responses around the country. In general the shops around here seem to be better stocked than they have been in recent weeks.

userxx · 29/03/2020 09:17

Aldi on Friday morning about 8.30 was absolutely rammed, no checking of distances going on! I was shocked to be honest. Food was fully stocked but it wasn't an experience I'm going to repeat. Waitrose for me from now on.

orangeicecream · 29/03/2020 09:24

I went to tescos (medium sized one) at 7pm last Thursday and it was great. About 15 customers in the whole shop, a trolley station outside with cleaning products for the handles, they had everything except Loll roll and pasta. I am planning to ge again at the end of this coming week.

Woman31 · 29/03/2020 09:26

I went aldi yesterday and it was the best shopping experience ever. All queuing outside, only a few in at a time. It was empty and the shelves were packed inside. It was lush 😂🙈

userxx · 29/03/2020 09:29

@Woman31 How odd that the day before it was free for all. No queuing, everyone milling in different directions bumping into each other.

Surely the policy must be the same across all stores or maybe it was only brought in on Saturday.

PickAChew · 29/03/2020 09:29

M&S best, here, for stocks of fresh stuff.

Woman31 · 29/03/2020 09:31

It’s been like it here for a few days. We have to queue up outside obviously 2 metres apart and then they let you in one by one. They have lines on the floor marked out every 2 metres. It was lovely

LittleCandle · 29/03/2020 09:34

We went to Lidl and got everything we needed yesterday. That said, they were still short of dried goods and tins and the meat selection was small. Our Aldi was quite well stocked the couple of times we went in there and last time we each got a free bunch of fresh flowers (it was later on in the evening). Tesco was bliss, as there weren't that many people in there - I hate Tesco as a general rule. They didn't have much fresh veg etc, but that wasn't why we had gone there.

Fleetheart · 29/03/2020 09:35

I found going to Morrisons a deeply unsettling experience. Everyone looking at each other suspiciously; public service announcements on the tannoy; plenty of food really apart from no bleach or the obvious things. But the atmosphere was chilling; like pre unification East Germany. Are they all like this? We are all going to get very paranoid if going out every time is an experience like this

WanderingMilly · 29/03/2020 09:37

M&S is best for fresh stuff, but obviously pricey. Tesco round here doesn't seem to get the shelves stocked very quickly, even if I go really early morning. Sainsbury's has the best choice although it's also a bigger shop here, so I think that makes a difference too. I can also get non-food items at that store (the shelves with TVs on seem to empty very quickly!) Sainsbury's are also spraying their car park, washing their trolley handles and have stricter guidelines for entering and leaving the shop, which pleases me...at Tesco you have to wash/spray your own trolley...
Personally I think it depends on the store and the area you live in though....

HollyHocks13 · 29/03/2020 09:37

I was really impressed with Aldi the other day. It was fully stocked and they were very organised with distancing. The trolleys and baskets were all disinfected after every use and all the tills were open so I was in and out in half an hour. Thank ce also heard that Lidl is good too. All the other supermarkets round here have enormous queues and aren't particularly well stocked.

SheldonSaysSo1 · 29/03/2020 09:38

It depends on your diet and what items you need. I can't get everything I need in Aldi due to allergies and the limited product range. So it makes sense to go to one of the bigger stores. If this isn't the case I'd definitely go for Aldi or Lidl, for budget reasons and because I've heard they are doing well with stock levels.

HollyHocks13 · 29/03/2020 09:38
  • I have also heard
esjee · 29/03/2020 09:39

@Fleetheart I went out Mon or Tues to get some stuff and again on Fri and the difference in atmosphere across those few days was incredible. It felt really grim.

Frouby · 29/03/2020 09:43

We have a biggish morrisons, a big tesco and a medium asda and a medium m and s foodhall locally.

Dh went for supplies yesterday. He said the queue for M and S and Morrisons was massive (no shit sherlock) so came home having raided the local spar for half the essentials list.

I went to the small asda and it was fine. 15 minute queue, trolley washed and wiped by security bloke. Well stocked, loads of big roll and bread etc. M and S foodhall was quiet mid week last week in the afternoon.

I'm planning on avoiding big supermarkets and just using either the asda or m and s.

AvocadoPrime · 29/03/2020 09:51

I'm leaving in a second. I'm going to go to aldi. There is a tesco on the way back if that fails. Im quite scared of the atmosphere :(

Aldi, ours was restricting and preventing bulk buying way before anyone else. Since this started, I’ve been able to get everything I’ve wanted from there, apart from nappy bags Hmm

AvocadoPrime · 29/03/2020 09:55

Its snowing where I am now too. So if people weren't panic buying before Hmm
