The virus is NOT airborne - WHO

TheReelSlimShady · 28/03/2020 19:53

So the WHO have officially stated that the virus is NOT airborne as has been stated many times :

twitter.com/WHO/status/1243972193169616898

Their recommendation is to keep 1 metre apart , not 2 metres as many countries have been using (including in the UK).

Does this change anything? I guess it may calm the anxiety of picking up the virus when out and about doing exercise if someone gets a bit too close, or in the supermarket.

Therealslimshady is this not a discussion board where people can post their thoughts or opinions?

Sure. But you said you are not a scientist, therefore please do inform us what qualification you have that makes you more knowledgeable than the leading world experts on the matter?

CrapTVAddict I’m still interested to hear what you think the WHO would have to gain from lying?

LaurieMarlow · 28/03/2020 20:16

is this not a discussion board where people can post their thoughts or opinions?

If your ‘opinions’ are utterly crackpot, expect to be called on it. You’re not a scientist (by your own admission) so you haven’t the faintest idea.

Once more, why would the WHO lie?

BelfryBat · 28/03/2020 20:16

@CrapTVAddict you're posting absolute rubbish and complaining you're being called out on it. If you don't want it called out, don't talk crap.

CrapTVAddict · 28/03/2020 20:17

I didn't say I was more knowledgeable that was my point!
I was offering my thoughts.
You don't have to agree with my thoughts and people can discuss in a adult manner but sadly some find it entertainment to pull apart peoples posts

Forza14 · 28/03/2020 20:17

Not all opinions are equal, CrapTVAddict - and we should all be wary of those that start with: “I’m not a scientist but....”

The WHO don’t sit around making up stuff - this is based on rigorous scientific testing. Almost every scientist in a relevant field is on this at the moment, and one of the easiest things to check is whether air has virus living in it.

dontdisturbmenow · 28/03/2020 20:17

We touch surfaces all the time. Can all posters say that they wash their hands before and after each time they use the kettle, open a door, touch the TV remote control, put their hands on the sofa to seat etc...

PurpleDaisies · 28/03/2020 20:18

I don't believe it's not airborne. I know I'm not a scientist but the way this has spread makes me question it is.

I am very quickly losing faith in human beings.

CrapTVAddict · 28/03/2020 20:20

So am I purple. Seems you can't discuss anything without being jumped on.
Be kind remember that. In these times you think people would pull together rather than try and pull someone down

HoffiCoffi13 · 28/03/2020 20:20

Why would the WHO lie?

Leostar · 28/03/2020 20:20

Is it because they have less pre-paxkaged food? Use markets and shop daily for fresh ingredients? 🤢

PotsofChoc · 28/03/2020 20:20

It would make more sense for all the people out and about wearing masks to swap them for disposable gloves.

VanGoghsDog · 28/03/2020 20:20

Someone on our village Facebook group stated the virus can "fly through the air", I said no, it can be propelled but it can't fly.

She says "that's the same thing". Anyone know why we have two different words that apparently mean the same thing?

(Yeah, I know I shouldn't respond to people on Facebook!).

LaurieMarlow · 28/03/2020 20:20

I was offering my thoughts.

We all, including the people in question, should be able to distinguish between.

A) informed, educated thoughts

Or

B) ‘pulled out of the posters’ backside’ thoughts

And consider how wise one’s contribution to the thread is in that light.

TheReelSlimShady · 28/03/2020 20:20

You don't have to agree with my thoughts

I don't, and neither do the actual experts. Feel free to post your evidence why the leading world experts at the WHO are wrong and we can have a discussion.

OP posts:
Geepipe · 28/03/2020 20:20

I can believe it. Just as we were starting to hear about the virus on the news my work was absolutely full of staff and customers coughing a lung up. Makes lots of sense this is how its spread droplets from infected coughs then harbouring inside nee hosts for weeks undetected.

PicsInRed · 28/03/2020 20:20

Remember when they said it wasn't a pandemic (when it met their own criteria), then they said they don't use the word pandemic anymore, so won't ever be calling it a pandemic...then eventually declared it a pandemic?

They say a lot of things. As a political organisation, science isn't their priority.

I'm sticking with "they're full of shit". As worthless as the League of Nations.

LaurieMarlow · 28/03/2020 20:22

It would make more sense for all the people out and about wearing masks to swap them for disposable gloves.

Yes, but only if we’re careful not to touch our face with gloves on and dispose of them carefully.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 28/03/2020 20:22

So if its not airborne but is instead spread by touch, and bearing in mind that 70% of infected people are male, does this mean that men don't wash their hands as much as women?

TheReelSlimShady · 28/03/2020 20:22

We touch surfaces all the time. Can all posters say that they wash their hands before and after each time they use the kettle, open a door, touch the TV remote control, put their hands on the sofa to seat etc...

I think this is a great reminder of why the 'Wash your hands' advice is so critically important.

OP posts:
LaurieMarlow · 28/03/2020 20:22

then eventually declared it a pandemic?

When it eventually did meet the clear criteria that they’d set out. Hmm

Your point?

TheGreyInThisCity · 28/03/2020 20:22

I am very quickly losing faith in human beings.

Ditto. If there’s one thing that this pandemic has taught me, it’s that the general public has very poor scientific literacy.

PurpleDaisies · 28/03/2020 20:23

Seems you can't discuss anything without being jumped on.

This isn’t something for discussion. That’s like saying you don’t believe in gravity.

World leading experts have said the virus isn’t airborne, but you with no scientific credentials at all have decided “something about the way it is spread” mesh’s they are wrong. You should expect that to be robustly challenged. It’s a ridiculous statement to make.

VanGoghsDog · 28/03/2020 20:23

Can all posters say that they wash their hands before and after each time they use the kettle, open a door, touch the TV remote control, put their hands on the sofa to seat etc...

No. But the virus isn't living in my house, is it? I've been on my own in the house for two weeks. I can't honestly say any time I have gone out (very limited) I have used hand sanitiser when out and immediately washed my hands coming back in. I've washed my hands after picking up any parcel.

I don't need to wash my hands every time I touch other stuff which is in my house.

defthand · 28/03/2020 20:23

The WHO has got an awful lot wrong with this virus. Who can forget their “there is limited evidence of human to human transmission.” 😒
