Confirmed cases without fever?

Hi, I’ve been sick with all the symptoms, including shortness of breath, terrible dry cough, headache, tingling hands and feet, painful chest, pain in my back, enlarged lymph nodes, loss of appetite, diarrhea and million other things for the past three weeks. I’ve never felt so sick before and it was quite scary at times too. My chest went very tight and I could not breathe at times. Sometimes I feel like I am getting better, however it all comes back after a few hours of false hope.

I was wondering if anyone had a confirmed case without getting fever? It’s the only symptom I did not get, and according to WHO website 99% of cases get it. Does it mean I am having another nasty virus in my body? Or could it still be corona?

Only two of those are COVID symptoms

Might be hypochondria

Honkingallthewaytothebank · 28/03/2020 16:16

@pocketem rude! there are nicer ways to say that!

Notsureaboutsymptoms · 28/03/2020 16:17

Well, my GP is convinced it’s a coronavirus and I am not sure, trying to get antibiotics for the chest infection and sore throat. She is just telling me it’s corona and just to get in with it.

yes I know 3 confirmed cases now without fever. 2 did say they had muscle pain in back and legs and all 3 had headache

Notsureaboutsymptoms · 28/03/2020 16:19

I have flegm that is very hard to cough out, not sure how it is related to hypochondria, but thanks for your help.

I think 89% of confirmed cases have fever so that means 11% don’t. I’m sorry you’re not well, coronavirus or not, I hope you’re better soon Flowers

Thank you fluffdeloop.

The answer is yes. There’s a few posts with people having similar symptoms - search for burning lungs. I’m one of them. I also have sore eyes which is a known symptom.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 16:31

I have the same symptoms as you and my doctor told me it's coronavirus. I have all the other symptoms except the temperature.

Moonlite · 28/03/2020 16:34

Type in kiwi woman coronavirus on YouTube I watched a video the other day where a news reporter was interviewing a woman from her hospital bed, she was a confirmed case and also had no fever at all. She was doing well herself despite being in hospital

pocketem · 28/03/2020 16:38

trying to get antibiotics for the chest infection and sore throat

Even if it was an chest infection you shouldn't be seeking antibiotics. What are you doing?

Ok my timeline is like this:

First week - suddenly feeling like after a workout, body aches, every morning waking with a headache. Second week- runny nose, every breath burning lungs, chills, shivering, sweating, waking up drenched in sweat, pain in hands and feet. By the end of the week running burning nose, dry mouth, coughing every few minutes, burning lungs, every breath a struggle, nausea, could not eat for 4 days. Third week - chocking, can only cough it out if bend over the edge of the bed, pain in my chest and back, pain in my ribs. No fever.

Well I was thinking if it’s not coronavirus, maybe it’s a chest infection that needs antibiotics or something? That’s why I called my gp and she told me she thinks it’s corona. So I am trying to figure out what to do next and how to shift this cough.

Your timeline is different to mine but the symptoms are generally the same.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 16:48

There is nothing wrong with trying the antibiotics. They are giving them on prescription for people struggling with coronavirus symptoms anyway. Some people are getting a bacterial infection at the same time. Doctors are prescribing a "rescue pack" of antibiotics and an inhaler.

willdoitinaminute · 28/03/2020 16:50

Have you used a thermometer to check your temp? Sweating, chills etc suggest a fever.
It depends on your baseline temp. If it is normally quite low 36degc then a temp rise to over 37 would be classed as a fever. It doesn’t have to be 40+ anything above 40 is serious.
Also if you were taking paracetamol for symptoms it may have brought your temp down to normal levels so taking your temp would not have been any use.

pocketem · 28/03/2020 16:51

Taking antibiotics when you don't need them puts you and your family at risk

Ridiculous in this day and age to be asking for antibiotics "just in case"

Notsureaboutsymptoms · 28/03/2020 16:52

I had a 37.1 temp for one day only. But it’s not really a high one, and it went back to 36.6 next day after that.

I was not prescribed antibiotics, I was discussing solutions with my gp.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 16:54

Doctors are giving suspected coronavirus cases antibiotics just in case. Is that ridiculous? I don't think so

Notsureaboutsymptoms · 28/03/2020 16:56

I’ve read that they give antibiotics because often a viral infection can progress into a bacterial one. I just want to get better, that’s all.

OP posts:
ofwarren · 28/03/2020 16:58

Yes, that's the reason why.
Are you bringing up any phlegm or is it still dry?
