Has anyone self isolating got it after staying in?

Just wondering really.

We're being really careful with deliveries, not going anywhere or near anyone. I keep thinking we're safe but we're not are we.

Yep but that was after having my dad in the day before the lockdown. We had already been careful ourselves the week before lockdown but had dad in on the Sunday he came down with it Monday and I started with it on the weds hubby on the thurs

SingforAbsolution · 28/03/2020 12:13

The incubation period is anything up to two weeks, so you could already have it and not know.

Lockheart · 28/03/2020 12:13

It has up to a 2 week incubation period, possibly longer. So in theory you could not leave the house or see anyone at all for 2 weeks and it could still appear if you picked it up on your shop a fortnight ago.

There's no point thinking in terms of safe or not, especially since for the vast, vast majority of people it will be a mild illness. Just use common sense and be aware.

We've been home for 2

Sorry..

We've been home for 2 weeks now.

I'm just wondering if anyone has caught it from packaging etc?

We're being careful but still terrified. My fear is one of my children getting it and going to hospital alone 😢

They won't go alone! You can go with them!

Lockheart · 28/03/2020 13:09

@Helenj1977 it's absolutely impossible to say if there have been any cases where anyone has caught it from packaging. With an average 5 day incubation period, and a suspected large proportion of people being asymptomatic, it's impossible to know where anyone has caught it from (unless you happen to be in close contact with known cases of course).

As long as you don't lick the packaging and you wash your hands after opening post etc, you will more than likely be fine.

Daisiest · 28/03/2020 13:09

My parents are the same as you. They'll have been in almost three weeks soon but are still getting food deliveries.

Mum wipes everything with an anti bacterial wipe but is terrified of my dad catching it from a packet.

Not sure what the chances are really but it's better than going out.

babybabyowl · 28/03/2020 13:11

We’ve been in since Tuesday before last. Had food deliveries and other deliveries.
I started coughing last Saturday and have a sore throat and cough still.
Two days ago DD (8) got sore throat, cough and now has high temp.
We have a 6 week old who also has a snuffly nose.
Of course I don’t know for sure that it is CV but DD in particular has all the symptoms. She’s currently asleep - which she never does in the day.
Also almost impossible to isolate from each other in our small house and I need DH to help with both baby and DD.

babybabyowl · 28/03/2020 13:12

We have been anti-bacing and quarantining deliveries as other have said the incubation period is two weeks so I started five days after I’d been socially isolating. DD got it five days after me.

babybabyowl · 28/03/2020 13:14

If you’ve been in for two weeks with no symptoms I’d imagine you’d be fine

Shmabel · 28/03/2020 13:22

I don't know how anyone is managing to self isolate. My dad has 3 underlying health conditions, partner's dad is over 80, and I'm pregnant but none of us can get food deliveries (I wouldn't take one in these circumstances though, being relatively young and healthy).

Anyway, well done to those of you who are managing it, and even though it didn't stop some of you from catching it, it has severely limited the likelihood that you've passed it on. Hope you and your families get well soon Flowers

Gwenhwyfar · 28/03/2020 13:26

Shmabel - join the mutual aid volunteering groups for your and your relatives. Volunteers will go shopping for you.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 13:30

I was home for 25 days. Had an urgent appointment at the dentist with pain and I went there in a facemask.
I took my mask off in the room and the dentist was wearing a mask.
She didn't touch my mouth, only my teeth with tools.
7 days later I have coronavirus symptoms.

Bottletopsx · 28/03/2020 13:33

Its no good wiping packages with anti bac wipes they will not kill the virus. You need to wipe down shopping before you put it in the cupboard with a weak bleach solution. Please do this not anti bacterial wipes.
Solution recommended is 4 teaspoons bleach to 2 pints of water.

middleager · 28/03/2020 13:36

We can't avoid it forever.
Isolation is about slowing this down and not passing it on.

Also, whoever started that sick rumour about children going to hospital alone should be forced to volunteer on the frontline.

Helenj1977 · 28/03/2020 13:37

@Shmabel There are things to help. Look up shield packages that Morrisons are doing. Local Facebook groups with volunteers.

I hope its just a rumour. It terrifies me 😢

chillichoclove · 28/03/2020 13:57

There are barely any children in hospital and they absolutely wouldn't be admitted without a parent.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 13:59

Dr Ranj confirmed to Twitter that a parent would be allowed onto the ward to quarantine with their child

Helenj1977 · 28/03/2020 14:00

Thank you. That's that worry gone ❤️

OP posts:
Porcupineinwaiting · 28/03/2020 14:02

@middleager I'm sure that's true but dont be too eager to have your turn. There are enough people sick or brewing it right now to keep the NHS busy. If the healthy stay healthy for at least a few weeks it will be better for all of us.

bumblingbovine49 · 28/03/2020 14:06

Dr Ranj confirmed to Twitter that a parent would be allowed onto the ward to quarantine with their child

To what age? DS is 15 with ADHD and ASD , he would be terrified and possibly aggressive if put in a ward on his own

Michelleoftheresistance · 28/03/2020 14:08

It is absolutely a rumour, my local hospital has posted on FB to say it's a rumour and one parent will always be with a child. They were not in any way happy about people writing memes that unnecessarily scare parents.

Porcupineinwaiting · 28/03/2020 14:09

@bumbling I'm sure they are flexible on a case to case basis. Paramedics are pretty humane.
